Time to redeem the bonus 30K points for the life insurance deal 😍

      • -1

30k points, i don't value my life (insurance) that much!

        • +2

          Only cost most ozbargainers $24 - $40

        • +1

I only got debited $7.80 twice before the points hit my QFF account, easiest 30K points ever!

        • @unco: Which deal are you guys referring to? Bit out of the loop!

        • @chobani4lyf:
          It's over now unfortunately.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/295951

Most people managed to get their monthly premium below $10, needed to hold it for 60 days to get 30K points.

        • -1

          @unco:

It's not over , I got the offer again a few weeks ago lol

Might take up life insurance for my cat 😺

        • -1

          @unco:

I didn't want to risk points being not paid so elected to have the 3rd premium deducted

        • @easternculture:
I got the offer email again but it now states minimum $40 per month premium to be eligible to get the bonus points.

My points have already been paid in to my QFF account so all good :D

        • -1

          @unco:

Still worth it as points are worth $300 in the trading forum

        • @easternculture:
There is still a promo, but they've changed the T&C now, lol:

1 Minimum monthly premium in order to earn Qantas Points is $40. To earn the maximum 50,000 points minimum monthly premium is $160. Points will credited over 5 months, in 4 equal monthly instalments which will commence after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. To receive each instalment of Qantas Points, the qualifying premium must remain the same and payments must be up to date. Not available to existing Qantas Assure Life Protect policyholders or those who have held a Qantas Assure Life Protect policy within the last 12 months. Offer may be withdrawn at any time.

          @tio:

🙄 Looks like they caught up on us

        • +1

          @easternculture:
The new deal is points paid after 60 days over a period of 5 months.
So having to hold the policy for 7 months isn't worth it to me.

        • @easternculture: what is the best way to cancel the cover? Should I just call them?

        • @tio:Too easy!

  • +2

Thanks OP - was waiting for something like this! Hopefully it works for an RTW fare.

    • You should be ok if it's a Economy Classic Flight Reward Fare

      😎

  • Ouch now I regret being loyal enough to pay an annual fee to earn direct to Qantas and being capped each month

  • +1

Right now, you could receive up to 40% more Qantas Points* and escape somewhere new.

Do I have to do anything to activate this? I can't seem to find any specific mention of it on he Qantas website.

    • +1

      It's via email

40% more Qantas Points ➡️ 1,250,000 Qantas Points and over
25% more Qantas Points ➡️ Up to 1,249,999 Qantas Points

  • +1

Is this targeted? Haven't received the email

    • Not targetted . You will eventually get the email

  • +1

DAMN!!!! I just book my flight for Sep!!!!!

  • Thanks OP. Is 25% the best sale they do for these? I know I need to go to the US in April/May next year but am happy to wait if they do a better sale / or buy normal fare with points when they are on sale for $900. Can anyone recommend the best use of my 150k points?

    • +2

Don't buy economy! Points + taxes = almost what economy ticket costs anyway.

Depending if you can get more points could do Business class return.

Alternatively, check out oneworld RTW fares. That's 130,000 points for economy from memory. Up to 5 stopovers and 15 segments. Only a bit more than a return flight, and you could go Asia, Europe, Americas + 2 other places on the same ticket :) Best value by far IMO. Tons of availability for economy.

      • +2

Ok but if I have points and no $$ then it's not the cost of an economy ticket because I can't afford an economy ticket…

        • Use points to get the economy tickets, pay the taxes.

Then use more points to upgrade the economy ticket to business.

        • +1

Sell the points and buy the ticket :)

      • Hi, Rochow, what's the normal taxes $ for return from Sydney to maybe Hongkong, Singapore,Shanghai,Dubai etc?

        • +3

For economy? Usually same $ as business, which is the problem.

You can test (if you have points) by looking on qantas website.

Problem is Qantas will have say, $400 taxes and surcharges for a $600 fare. So you use a ton of points to save $200. Whereas it may be 40000 vs 60000 points to go from economy to business. Better value to pay $400 and the few more points for business.

It's around 60,000 one way from memory to Asia business class

        • ok i c, you are right!!

      • How do you view RTW fares? Everytime I've tried to build my itinerary I get forwarded to the One World site and it won't show the value in points or allow for payment with points.

    • +1

You could look to sell at 1c/point.Worth $1500.

      • +2

not sure why your comment was negged
much better value to sell your points vs booking economy awards.
the 25% discount may make it a bit more bearable..

        • +1

Probably negged because it's not allowed by the terms and conditions and if caught they may remove the points and/or close the account.

        • When was the last time you sold your points without issues?

  • +1

is there a link to the deal and terms and conditions? Can't find it on the website…

  • +1

Does Qantas usually have this kind of promo for business class?

  • +4

If only they have business class promo…

economy are better off paid in cash.

  • How do i transfer my ANZ cc points to Qantas FF points? sorry for noob question !

    • Not possible. Most credit cards only credit to Qantas as Direct Earn, which doesn't even have the bonus.

    • +1

best off transferring them to velocity now with the 50% bonus
you wont get much better than that!

      • True.. if he really wants the Qantas point, just buy it off other ppl @1c ea

  • Hvnt got the email yet nor it is coming up on google search, but read the past few promotions and it seems promo's like these are applicable on Qantas and Jetstar operated flights only. Hope this is not the case.

    • Why do you hope that this is not the case?
Extremely rare to have sales on other airlines, using QANTAS frequent flyer points.

      • Just a hope mate - as i hv couple of redemptions planned. They are on one world partner airlines to be booked via qantas.com

  • Want to book economy return trip to Tokyo, cost 56000 points, so 20% off point if book past midnight tonight right ?

    • Domestic seems to be showing the reduced rates for me.

      • not showing discount for me

      • Are you sure you are not seeing Jetstar's 20% off points needed?

        • +1

Possibly it was. It was via Qantas but there were JQ flights in the ones I wanted.

    • not starting tomorrow? 24th May?

  • Is this just a transfer bonus?

Or is there also a discount on new bookings of 25%? This is only useful for me IF I can use points that I already have at Qantas.

  • Commonwealth Bank doesn't allow you to transfer points to Qantas. Sucks! Only points you accumulate after joining their Qantas FF point system can be used.

  • I transferred my points this morning, not knowing about this deal. Do you think I'll get the bonus, or will I need to activate something in order to qualify?

  • Haven't got the email yet, anybody else received it?

    • Nope, not me, keen to transfer them if they will only send me the bloody email.

  • I never claim my FF points for Qantas flight. Just wondering if we can pay the taxes with points like Virgin Blue ?
    Thanks

    • -1

hahha.. no. u still have to pay for the taxes.. as well as giving away your points.

      • Not true. You can use points on Qantas Any Seat Rewards (vs Classic Rewards mentioned here) and pay for the whole flight in points as well as earning points for the flight if you do.

And it's not giving away the points, it's using them to get flights. Whether you consider it value or not is another question. I concede that using points to upgrade economy to business class as an example is better value/point compared to say buying economy with points, but you still have to buy that economy ticket in the first place.

        • I agree that upgrading is probably better use for the points.

Are the Qantas any seat rewards offered for using more points?

Sorry I've only ever booked classic or upgrades and both have always used points+pay unlike virgin.

  • Anybody knows if and when Velocity FF will follow suit ?

  • 25% reward fares are already showing up when searching.

Ie - Melb - Johannesburg return shows 67,500 points + taxes. Normally this comes up around 80k odd points.

    • Yep you're right, flights I wanted are now discounted.

    • That's quite cheap compared to SYD to London Heathrow. The cheapest I could find late Oct to mid Nov (depart arrive on Tuesday/Wednesday) is 75,000 points there and 92,000 points back (total 167,000 points + taxes). All other searches are 200,000 points+ return with economy saver! Am I doing something wrong?

      • Make sure they're classic reward seats rather than just paying with points. Tyre number of points required should be the same on the same route (given availability & same airline) from one day to another.

        • Got it thanks! Adds up to me slightly cheaper when buying the ticket with $
Will probably keep my points and save for a business class upgrade instead.

    • How can it be that cheap ?
My 1 way Syd - Perth is already around 45,000 points :(

  • Just brought 3 flight to Melb for my family with Classic Flight Rewards.

    Thanks OP!

    • +4

      Where did you bring them?

      • +1

From Perth to Melb at end of year for Christmas, only booked one way atm, will book the return flight on 29th :D

Finally get to use 100k point from the Amex deal!

        • +1

lol, I think shonkys comment went over your head but good to see you scored a great deal on a family trip :)

  • so which cards allow Qantas ff transfer?
I know of the higher tier Amex cards can.

    • CBA platinum awards

  • +1

Didn't get the email, but just booked a reward flight and the discount was active. Pretty good deal IMO.

  • I see no favours to Bali book direct with Jetstar its $300, book award flight with Qantas its $250 + 28,000 FF points, ridiculous.

  • At what point do they give you the discount? I have gone through the booking stage and as yet I haven't seen the discount come up?

    • +1

price is automatically 25% less points the discount is not shown

      • I realised where my problem is. I was looking at flights to Rome. The flight is part Qantas and part Emirates and therefore is not included in the special.

"An eligible flight is an Economy Classic Flight Rewards operated by Qantas and booked with a Qantas (QF) flight number on your ticket to all Qantas domestic Australian and all international destinations to and from Australia"

I need to find a way of only flying Qantas to Rome…

  • Never got the email to transfer points with a bonus, no 25% discount on points for flights either. :-(

  • I chose return tic to HK and the tax + other carrier charges goes to $315? Why there is still a "other carrier charges" even l select both leg with qantas?

    • Think it means other "carrier charges", rather than "other carrier" charges

  • can someone link to where it says I can get 40% more points for transferring my CC points to QFF?

  • Looks like the bonus transfer is targeted to those who have transferred previously, found this article:

    http://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas-point-transfer-bonus-pro…

  • I’m slightly confused about who is eligible for the bonus Qantas points (up to 40%) if you transfer your credit card reward points. Some of the responses above indicate that it applies to everyone that has the ability to transfer points to the QFF program (e.g. all AMEX Platinum Charge Card holders) – irrespective of whether you receive an email/letter. Others have implied that it’s targeted, i.e. even if you have the ability to transfer points, you will not get the bonus points unless you have been included as part of the offer. Can anyone clarify the situation?

lazzarbcfc88, you said you transferred some points on 23/05. Did you end up receiving an email and/or letter relating to this offer? If not, did you still get the bonus points?

  • Not sure if others are seeing this as well.
I managed to booked a economy fare Mel > Syd > Joberg, then a premium economy fare for way back and it was only 3k points more than economy each. Total 71,025. Obviously the premium economy sector is Joberg > Syd only.
But if I select premium economy both ways it was showing 125k, not sure if its a glitch.

  • any one manage to book a rtw classic reward ticket under 140,000 points? not sure if it works on the partner airlines or just the qantas legs? how do i redeem points for a a rtw classic reward ticket it just takes me to the oneworld website went i click on rtw?

  • Thanks OP

I booked Melbourne to London return for 90,000 points (instead of 120,000) and $660 taxes during peak European summer time of Jul/Aug this year.

I think that is pretty good value using the points I got from a credit card signup.

Anyone know if complimentary CC travel insurance is included if you book with points? Assuming you pay the taxes above the cost threshold (which is $500 for NAB Qantas Amex).
