I saw this as well, but for the $49 cap + $10/mo handset payment = $59/mo total, you get the iPhone 4 32GB…and in my view, the difference between the $49 and $59 caps are minimal. I'd rather get the 32GB model.

So not a positive for me, but it may be good value for others.

    • $49.00 - $350 / $270 3 to 3/Voda / 1.5 GB /Handset Cost Monthly $5
      $59.00 - $650 / Unlimited to 3/Voda / 2 GB / Handset Cost Free

Good for those people interested in the 16 GB Model.

    • Bigsue - nice point - thanks

They still have this issue which makes it scary on the THREE Network.

. Additional data usage rate and Roaming within Australia rate (including within 3's Broadband and 2G Zone) is $0.50/ MB

So anyone who has an Iphone knows that they chew data and they flick from 3 Network to roaming all the time on the bus and train and this can cost you $$$$$$$$$

Be aware of this as I was on the Three Network with an Iphone and it cost some big bills..

So not negative on the Price of the deal Just stating so people are aware of the trap in the pricing..

    • Well said, I would never, ever get an iphone on 3. Voda usually have similar pricing but don't have the same drawback.

      • +2

I'm not fully up to speed on this stuff, but haven't Voda acquired 3, and aren't they kinda merging all their services?

        • eventually they will probably destroy the '3' brand and shift their customers onto voda.

The problem is that the '3' 3G network is half owned by telstra, which somewhat complicates things. If '3' customers start roaming onto vodafone 2g for data thought he situation will get a lot better.

    • Is there any iPhone apps that can prevent this?
Also, if you are going to sign-up or upgrade, remember to use MoneyBackCo to get $84 back…

      • I think you can go settings > network > data roaming (off)

        • Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data (off)

Will prevent you from using data when you are not in a 3 zone. But the problem is you'll have to toggle it on and off, plus what if you're on a train…

    • If you had big bills, have you looked at this thread in whirlpool?

Are they just trying to get back those $59 Extreme Cap Optus customers?
What's the big difference? They both are giving excessive amounts of calling value as well as unlimited calls within their respective networks.

  • -1
    • That is wrong, Three and Voda is the same network now, thus Three customers have automatic access to Voda's 3G and 2G coverage, and this is displayed on the Phone as a "3" network.

Three customers now only roam to Telstra's if there is no Vodafone network available.

OMG, I didn't really vodafone's coverage was that bad! I still roam alot and I live in central Canberra!

  • bigsue19 is right , if you are paying 59 dollars cap, why not get the 32 gb Iphone 4.

But in my point of view, the only reason why Three and Vodafone are promoting Iphone4 at this low price is they want to get rid of it since Iphone4 (1st generation) got bugs and I believed the next generation of Iphone4 would be coming in the beginning of next year.

Whether buying Iphone4 or not , always ask yourself
" Can I wait for the next generation of Iphone 4 ?"
" If I keep waiting for a better deal, when would I get my Iphone 4?"

    • Louisyear

Your really dont believe your point of view do you? I know you posted it but really if you believe what you said you either believe in fairies (sorry to insult fairies) or you believe that people coming here are really stupid.

      Why not troll elsewhere.

Either that, or lets place some money down on a bet.

  • Three isnt too bad with iphones. It's just a few selected areas. Never had drop outs and its always been reliable. I'm on a 16gb iphone 3gs and I can tell you that the place I go have had perfect reception!

I'm sure other carriers have drop outs here and there minus the exception of Telstra which you pay an excessive premium for..

I've actually ordered one for my mum about 10 days ago but hopefully they'll be ready to ship out this week!

Also, you have a meter usage on My 3 where you can actually monitor ur usage very carefully. I use the internet on the way to work everyday and I've never gone over my 1gb limit. If the phone is for personal use, even 2gb should be MORE than enough.

  • This Promo deal has a very SNEEKY condition applying to the terms of the contract which would make it a deal killer vs optus.

    "UNLOCKING FEES APPLY"

Not sure about how much or how long the fees apply for. I have iphone 3gs from 3 and i unlocked if for free. Optus has free unlocking from day 1.

    • +1

Weird, three recently announced they would provide free unlocking on the iphone 4. Although checking their global terms and conditions, a $99 fee applies. Weak.

      • i think by trying to compete with optus they want make sure ppl stay will 3 full term and not sell the fone and pay off the plan and switch. the promo is purely to keep ppl away from swtiching and optus are very strong in grabbing the market

        • Gavman - I understand what you are saying BUT that's not a reason the neg this post. Its your personal opinion on the deal. There isn't something fundamentally wrong with the deal. Its from 3 and you think Optus is better, but you'll find just as many who think Optus sucksso you should go with Telstra. Then theres those who think Telstra sucks so you should go with vodafone …….

          • @[Deactivated]: i dont agree.. i thought this was a BARGAIN site not an advertising portal.. and i dnt think this is a bargain. i am not against 3, I am currently with 3 and believe they r a good service but they have only now offering what optus have offered for much longer but what they fail to tell people upfront is they charge extra fees to unlock the phone (which i dont have on my current plan) that optus do not… so this is is very much a negative. It not my opinion its a fact of their offering. I think people should be aware of the fine print before commiting to 2 years to a telco and thats all ive pointed out

            • @Gavman: And your point out stands and is noted and helpful- but all I ask is DID you read the voting guidelines. please do so before you come back on this. Thank you.

  • Recently moved from Three to Telstra…
… and I am sure I will never ever go back

  • I have been thinking of changing my iphone 49$ cap to this Promo Cap (since free SMS/MMS within Aus, and other benefits), I found this condition is very annoying "3’s Fair Use Policy applies. Additional charges apply for some services such as video streaming (eg YouTube) and single file downloads over 3 MB."

So make sure, you dont watch youtube more than 10 mins .. or listen to internet radio .. or etc … stupid 2Gig internet ONLY for reading news and checking weather.

So if someone use this plan and tethering the internet with the laptop on the go … how much the bill would be ..

Just double check, my current $49 does not have this sneeky terms…
