Was looking around for a cheap windows laptop and stumbled across this. Seems like good value for money given the specs (highlight being fhd 15.6" screen).
Chuwi seems to have a good rep from past deals and I've bought phones from geek buying without incident before.

  • Can anyone advise me which to pick up? This or the jumper that's on sale for sub $300?

    • I was actually tossing up between this and the Jumper Ezbook 3 over the weekend and ended up ordering the Ezbook 3 for $253 with a code on Gearbest. Although the screen is slightly smaller, the processor was newer and there seemed to be more reviews on it, most of them saying it's a pretty decent cheapy if you can get a good price on it. I believe the 15.6 Chuwi Lapbook was their first model and then superseded by the 14.1" model which gets great reviews but i couldn't find a decent price on it.

I wish i had held on a couple of days for the Ezbook 3 Pro that was posted though with the extra 2gb ram and aluminium body, personally i reckon that's worth the extra $50 but that's just me.

    • This is using Cherry Trail Z8350, it's basically an Atom processor meant for tablets and such.

Jumper is using Intel Apollo Lake N3350 which is quite a bit faster (single-core performance almost twice as fast).

      • For those that don't keep up with processing power and the latest tech, is there a website or way of getting a ranking based on processor ranking and models and where they sit to others? Just so we know how powerful? obviously there's a heap of atom processors, but since netbooks were first released I would have hoped those N200 or whatever atoms are a heap faster (was sure slow back then).

          Geekbench browser
          https://browser.primatelabs.com/

type your search query in the top bar

Look at the Single and Multi Core score and try to find an 'average' number. We can see the single core results for the i5-7400 sits around 4000 for a Windows machine, while a Mac machine seems to get slightly better scores of 4500, for various reasons I'm not quite sure. Their multi core benchmarks are pretty similar.

Clicking on a search result shows you the indepth stats of the benchmark, with a lot of numbers that don't make much sense. However, you can click "Set Baseline" to set this benchmark as a baseline comparison, and whatever you search for in the next results, you will get a head-to-head comparison of how the processors stack up.

Do note that scores are affected by other variables, including memory speed and configuration, operating system etc. An overheating processor or a laptop put in power-saving mode would also throttle back, meaning you will get inaccurate results. So you should take the comparisons with a grain of salt.. and probably use averages of maybe 20 different results to give you a clearer picture.

Here you can see how a Jumper Ezbook running Celeron stacks against an ASUS tablet running an Atom x5.

and if you click my profile page you can see the machines I've tested .

    • If you don't mind a smaller screen, go this deal for $320.
It has a better processor and 128Gb SSD instead of a 64Gb flash drive,

I bought one for my 10yo daughter and it works well, and you can upgrade the RAM to 8Gb for even better performance. Tried a few different cheap laptops with Celeron or Atom processors, all went back to Officeworks after trying them and finding that they performed poorly.

edit: benchmark comparison of the processors for the Dell vs Chuwi vs Jumper

  • not a touch screen model, if this thing has touch screen, a 2X performance CPU and 8 gb ram 128GB ROM, it is worth it for 399 AUD level pricing.

I own the same chipset powered Hi 12 tablet, I can say the windows performance is lacking at times with pauses.. hence either drivers not done well or cpu/ram is dragging it down

  • Are the power consumption specs right?

At 2W with that battery, you should get 15+ hours of run-time from a full charge.

tested at 8 hours (playing a video non-stop)

      • Thanks for the link.

Based on the 8 hours, the 2W power consumption is most likely just for the CPU, not the entire system. Still that's not a bad result.

        • The LCD backlight actually draws several times more power than an Atom processor. How much is drawn would depend I guess, on the efficiency and the brightness setting being used.

  • Did i see right? 10,000 mah battery?? i thought my laptop was like circa 4,000-6000 - bought back in 2011. must've missed something, or is this standard capacity of batteries these days?

  • Why not get a used laptop? I bought a Toshiba Tecra R950 i7 8GB memory for $215 on gumtree and is perfect.

Usually because the battery will be stuffed, and off places like Gumtree it could be stolen.

Plus there's nothing like the allure of a shiny brand new machine!
