  • Any reviews on this compared to the EVGA version posted a few days ago? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305202)

    • I've actually owned both cards.

The Gigabyte Windforce OC sags a lot when it's mounted horizontally and the shroud looks very cheap - so it looks like shit basically. But, FWIW (pretty much worth sweet FA), it overclocked better than the EVGA Superclock. I think it was quiter also.

I'd be all over this card if looks aren't an issue and it's cheaper than EVGA basically.

      • I always noticed that evga gear is always more aesthetic and looks nicer especially for build in windowed or acrylic cases

        • +3

          plus evga warranty is amazing

        • +1

          @tuzii:

          Not really

They were a headache when I tried to RMA a motherboard last year

        • +1

          @easternculture:
oh wow that is not good to hear
how did the process go anyways did the rma end up going through ?

        • @tuzii:

What would be the warranty process if I had to RMA this?

        • +1

@aaronza: I bought a GTX 980 from Amazon US that I had to RMA.

You make an account on EVGA, register your products via serial and I think proof of purchase. From there you get all your warranty info laid out.
I submitted a support ticket first to try fix it without RMA, couldn't be fixed so submitted an RMA via a button under the product on my profile. From there they emailed me address details and a sticker to put on the box and I sent it to Taiwan. Got a replacement a few weeks later.

        • @enceladus94:

Did they cover the postage cost to Taiwan or were you up for it?

        • @Soothsayer: That was on me unfortunately. $40.

  • +1

Gosh it's hard to not buy one haha.

    • Actually just realised this is what I paid for my 670 almost 5 years ago to the day! Good times.

  • +1

still waiting for a good 1080ti deal like the previous 980ti from kogan

    • tell me when you see one too :)

      • Put an alert notification on, too

  • Thanks. Bought the 8TB hard drive

  • Amazing prices. If only we didn't have such a crappy $400 GST & Duty threshold in NZ.

    • +3

Don't feel bad. We'll have an even crappier $0 threshold in a couple of months.

      • I don't think we'll have a duty threshold just GST charged at checkout by the large players.

  • How does the warranty work? Do you have to send it back to Amazon or is the warranty void completely if purchasing from overseas?

    • +1

They check your address. If it says Australia on it, it autogenerates an email with a JPG file of a giant middle finger.

No, seriously. YOu send it back. They cover return shipping costs to an extent (for large items it may not be enough), though if you email support they're very flexible with that. I got them to send me a UPS prepaid label. Their customer service is top class. I've complained about things just to vent frustration, not expecting anything in return. They've sent me replacement items and allowed me to keep the original one. I've complained about long shipping time, and they resent a new order with the fastest shipping option, and a return label to send back the one already in transit. When I told them it's too expensive to send it back, they just let me keep it. I doubt they will do this for a graphics card though.

I complained that my copy of the Last Guardian was the EU version and not US version (was not expecting anything as a result of the complaint). They sent me a copy of the US version with 3 day global delivery free of charge. And let me keep the EU copy. I shouldn't have unboxed the EU copy, because I could have resold it.

  • If buying two HDDs just get the 16tb my book duo instead? It's barely any extra and you get the enclosure (note the enclosure encrypts, wouldnt recommend it necessarily.. but you can sell it)

    • What about individual drive warranty ?

    • Ive got 2 of the 16tb duos arriving tomorrow. I think if theres drive problems drives would need to go back in the enclosure before they would accept it back for warranty.

  • +1

Reds dropping in preparation for 10tb coming ?

also, chances of it being DOA?

    • +1

Always a chance, even if its poorly packaged when sent it can have a massive effect on the drives failure rate.

  • What are the effects of getting two of these and mounting them together?

    • I have same question… the reviews say an sli of 1070 will outperform 1080ti to in most cases, yes will be cheaper than 1080ti based on this deal.

Only issue that I personally know of is that you need good psu enough for these cards.

      • I don't know if I will do sli again. It's mostly a PITA. When it does work it is amazing but when it doesn't you send hours trying various tweaks and fixes. For example fallout 4 played much much better by turning SLI off and running with a single card.

      • SLI is not worth it anymore sadly. Hardly any games support it nowadays. Always best to get a really good single card so you know that it will work without any issues.

My friend did SLI 980ti's and most of the time he had to turn the 2nd card off so it ran better. The 1070 is still a very good card and totally worth it at this price point. I currently have a 1060 and plays all the games on high at 60 fps

      • Better off with single card. sli support was unreliable or comes too late. Sure it can work good sometimes. I just went from 980ti sli to a single 1080ti.

        • I don't think anyone on the planet is under the illusion that SLI is BETTER than a single card, as always, it comes down to the cost involved.
If you can do SLI for considerably cheaper than a single card and it beats that single card a large chunk of the time, then its a good deal.
I have done SLI GTX 660, GTX 660 Ti and GTX 970. All have worked moderately to extremely well on most games.

  • so compared to my GTX 670 which is dying is this a good upgrade?

    • Yes.

  • Currently having gtx960 on a standard IPS non-gaming 1080p monitor and wondering whether I should upgrade?

    • +1

      stick with the 960

    • +1

Depends what CPU you have and what games you play.

      • I have i7 6700 non K and I usually play games that are 1 year old. What do you think?

        • +1

You've got a good CPU. Not sure why you went with a 960 to begin with, since that is midrange or budget depending on how you look at it.

I think it's worth upgrading, but it would be an easier decision if you hadn't spent the original $200-odd getting the 960.

But if your games are still running fine, it might be worth waiting. When you're no longer getting good enough performance, there might be a better card, or this might be cheaper.

          It's up to you.

        • @lostn: Thanks mate. I think I will wait. Performance is not a problem right now but seeing this so cheap really tempted me to upgrade

  • What would be better in terms of getting a favourable exchange rate? Paying via paypal or via my combank mastercard? Also should I leave the currency in USD on the amazon site?

    • Can't do paypal via Amazon afaik.

Re: USD or AUD payment. USD will lock in the current exchange rate plus a conversion fee that Amazon pockets. If you pay in USD, your bank pockets the conversion fee, but you'll otherwise pay about the same. Unless it's a preorder or it doesn't ship yet. Then if you pay in USD Amazon will bill you when they ship, at the exchange rate during the time they bill you. If you pay in AUD, you lock in today's exchange rate. Obviously it can go up or down.

I recommend signing up for a 28 Degrees card (no annual fee). There's no currency conversion fee.

      • Avoid 28 degrees. They charge a payment fee now. I think the fee free Bankwest platinum is the go now

        • They do?

          When did that start?

        • -1

          $1 a month annoying.

Not having to deal with bankwest priceless.

Might want to look at bankwest fine print about disputing payments. I haven't disputed a charge with them but looks like a fee?
Anyone with experience want to share knowledge about this?

  • How much extra is priority gloabl shipping option? Doesn't show any costs when it gives me the 3 shipping options, are they all free shipping?

    • +1

Amazon shipping prices are annoying, usually it only shows you the cost pretty late in the checkout process. Standard shipping is almost always about $10, I think the other options would cost more. Standard should be fine though, Amazon postage is pretty quick and I think it's tracked.

    • +1

Paid $15 for shipping to Perth. Used the cheapest standard option.

      • Did the money come out of your account instantly? Ordered mine ~4 hours ago and it still hasn't charged me; I did accidentally forget to transfer money over before I purchased but I fixed that after 5 minutes of ordering

        • I think Amazon only charges when they are processing/packing. So if they are out of stock, they won't charge you for it. Also, I think if (timing wise, delays) they split it into multiple ships, they charge for each shipment separately (but don't charge extra for shipping).

    • Paid $11 to sydney, was going to cost me abour $35 for the express. It does show the prices but at the very last step after you select what option you want (you can change it again there) though bit dodgy.

  • The price is showing 363 USD now. Mark this deal as expired please!
