Credit history as the guy said above.

    • Give it a try.

They're approval system is odd (that's putting it lightly), with people with much more assets and income than myself being rejected last time this offer was on, yet I was approved (after I told them to cancel my application because payslips weren't enough (they requested a letter from my employer after applying). After advising them to cancel my application, the next thing I knew I received an email stating my application was approved).

In this regard, nothing's certain, so if you're interested, lodge an application and see what they say.

    • Why do you care about credit history if you already own your home

  • If I cancel before the first year am I still liable for the annual fee? Also, what kind of effects will this have on my credit score?

    • +1

Apparently yes, unless you cancel before the first statement is issued.

Don't know about credit score. I don't worry too much about these things.

  • +1

taking cash from CBA, what could be better?

  • Do you have to pay the annual fee up front? Or can you avoid it by cancelling before 12 months is up?

    • It's upfront

      • Anyone know if common bank will allow pro rata use of the annual fee?

      • +1

Upfront only if its not cancelled in first month? Eg if somone make purchase on day1 and cancel within a week?

      • +1

        How do you explain this:

        @PrimalNuke:

Last time I used this deal they still quoted the $59 annual fee. However, I was paid the $250 before they took the $59 allowing me to cancel and get the full $250.

        ?

        • -1

He can't because he's wrong. It's not upfront.

        • +2

          @John Kimble:

          He can't because he's wrong.

          Typical Commbank staff. 🙄

        • @Scrooge McDuck: Or I could be wrong according to this: https://www.commbank.com.au/support/faqs/1223.html

          Oops…haha

All I know is I did it last time and didn't get charged the annual fee after cancelling it about 3 months after I got it (once I got my $250 back into the card).

Edit: Big back flip and apologies. Checked my statements and I did get charged the annual fee in the first month and got it refunded the next month.

        • @John Kimble:

Did you get the full annual fee refunded?

        • @Scrooge McDuck: Yep $59, had to call them…man my memory is terrible…only coming back to me now.

They said they would only waive it because they would just move me to the no fee card type. Then I just cancelled it in October.

  • Joy? What about ecstasy? Or orgasmic pleasure?

  • 1) Does it affect the credit rating/score if I claim the $250 cashback and cancel a card ?
    2) Does it has to be $500 spend in one transaction?

    • +1

      No no

    • -1

applying for cc will affect your credit score.
      nothing else will affect it.

  • +2

Be careful with their T&Cs, didnt get my cashback last time as I had a low rate card within 12 months of applying

  • I got cba diamond card recently, upgraded from platinum,
but can I get these cards for me and my wife to get cash back?
I want to get two mini iPad as a gift to my children,
Will I meet the eligibility criteria?

    • +1

Should be able to, i did for the last offer in November and have diamond cards free with the wealth package. You'll have to pay the fee though cos the wealth package only includes 1 free card.

      • What is wealth package?
That means will I get free card with no annual fees?
The Diamond card in my wife name only.
our salary goes to cba joint account.
I hope we both can get the above cards!

        • I believe the "wealth package" is given to people who get a home loan with CBA. It includes things like an offset account, and discounts/fee waivers on other CBA accounts.

        • The fee waiver only applies to one card and also only in the name of the person who has applied for the wealth package. Only one wealth package is allowed to be applied for in the borrowing couple(trio etc).
I know this because of I did the science. I had the wealth package in my name and the cad was in my wife's name. We did not get the fee waiver until We changed the wealth package into her name.

        • I got my card on 23/05 and ready to spend.

        • 12/06 charged $59 on my card.
          $250 cash back on 15/06
Can I call CBA to waive the fee charged already?
Will I have to wait till my closing balance go through and cancel later or now?

    • No, you will not be eligible since you already have a commonwealth credit card (it does not matter which level).

      • My wife last year was successful in getting the deal, despite having a platinum card. The wording of the deal does not seem to have changed. She kept her platinum card and applied for another credit card. She was not transferring the card and had not had the low rate card in the past 12 months. I think the misunderstanding comes from the transferring as in converting your card to another card type then deal won't apply.

Any way I am doing science and will let people know the outcome.

  • We've received your application - thanks. Our team is now reviewing everything you've told us before making a decision on your credit card application. We'll be back in touch soon.

Is this a yes or a no?

    • +3

I'm guessing a maybe? My wife just applied and she was conditionally approved for X amount pending document review…so seems to have gotten further than you…

    • +3

      None of the above.

    • This is the message I received when I applied in January of this year (when the previous cashback offer was on). I only received a conditional approval last week (3 month turnaround time). I am beyond unimpressed. Might not even bother with it since I won't be able to get the cashback (as I applied during the previous promo).

    • It sounds like a probable no.

This is the message my wife got.

      Dear WIFE

Great news! Based on what you told us in your application you're conditionally approved for a Low Rate credit card with a maximum credit limit of $XXXXXX^.

We just need to check your supporting documents before we can finalise your application.

      What you need to do

      Log on to NetBank to see more details around what we need and an easy way to provide us with;

Proof of your full time income as a salaried employee

If you're one step ahead and have already completed this, you can ignore this email.

  • my experience is very bad with CBA credit cards

Years ago I ordered something online, never turned up or got a tracking number. Did a chargeback but they favored the seller even without any proof of shipping. Disputed it again and had to jump through so many hoops, forms, phone calls and emails. After about 6 months I got my money back, I would have dropped it but it was now the principal then canceled my accounts and cards.

never had that issue with amex or a stgeorge card which you can do online

I know a lot of people who havent had a problem, dad is one of them and has been with them for over 40 years, but when you do its a major hassle to deal with them. Atleast he has seen some issues and has switched all but one CC which has a lot of points or some generic excuse

  • Still jaded from the last CommBank cashback deal. Never again…

    • Why? What happened?

      • I've never had an issue getting cards in the past (Black/Platinum), but trying to get this one was an absolute nightmare.

Funnily enough though, my parner who's on about half my income (with a worst credit rating) was accepted with no worries.

  • +1

Mine got rejected, not sure if its because I cancelled the last one about 14 months back or because of the other 4 cards i hold :(

    • +1

Will never know until comprehensive credit reporting comes in to full force in Australia. Right now, only a handful off small banks are doing it.

US credit scoring system sounds so much better than ours. In the US, having lots of credit cards actually makes you look good in the eyes of lenders and scoring models (some people manage to get 14 credit cards and have excellent scores). In Australia, I am let to believe that more cards and more credit limit is actually a bad thing.

      • yeah that's what i was told and had to cancel a few cards before i got my home loan approved. once that was through i thought it would be smooth sailing but doesn't look like it :(

  • does paying your bills counts as eligible purchases?

    • Only via BPay (otherwise it's a cash advance)

    • It does.

I paid my bills at AusPo and got the cashback on the next statement.

      I did not use BPay.

Hi guys, just called cba to enquire more about this promotion. Apparently the annual fee cannot be waived because of the $250 cash back. Does this sound right or was it the operator didn't want to waive it for me? Also, apparently the annual fee is upfront ?

    • +3

Who cares, still profit 190 bucks.

    • It can't be waived. But I'm not sure if his reasoning is correct, since earlier in the year or late last year it was waived in spite of the $250 cashback.

    • Late reply, but it can be waived. I applied for the credit card in store and they waived it on the spot. I recommended my sister apply online and message the CBA consultant to waive the annual fee. So far she has agreed but hasn't been actioned for my sister yet.

  • +1

Yup annual fee cannot be "waived" lol. But it can be refunded.

Proof : I got the card last year. 250 credited. And annual fee refunded.

  • I have just applied. It said "Now for a limited time you can enjoy $0 annual fee for the first year and blah blah blah…"
T&C - "$0 Annual fee for the first year and $250 cash back offers apply to selected applicants who apply by 30 June 2017 and are approved for a new Low Rate or Low Rate Gold credit card."

    • where did you find the T&C's for this, or is it a targeted thing for the annual fee waive?

      • +1

Apply now -> then log in to your netbank, it will show you a page which has offer/ card feature on the top, T&C near the bottom.

        • +5

          cool thanks!
I talked to a rep too when I applied, and they said after you get your bonus, you can just transfer the card to a no fee card, so you don't get charged an annual fee.

  • Can you cancel this card straight after getting your bonus? Or do you have to have the card for a year?

    • +1

I canceled within a week after I got the bonus last time. The annual fee is charged straight up but cancelling early saves accidentally keeping it for another year and getting another annual fee.

      • Thanks for that.

      • Please… It's guilt tripping me from using them and bailing out right away, what excuse did you use!?

My 28 degrees card is better than the commbank in every way but I'm interested in the $250 cashback…

I'll probably use this to buy that $400 robot vacuum or pay my bills in advance.

        • +1

I told them the truth. "We already have a at the time had a good rewards card* the platinum with no fee and only got this card to earn the money back."

*Damn you commbank for reducing the rewards for AMEX

        • +2

          @Jake Elwood:
Was just worried they'd blacklist us for taking advantage of them, but then again I would never have considered signing up with them in the first place, they just seemed expensive when there are better options out there.

        • +4

@Zeral: Mate, they won't blacklist you. They are the biggest bank on Australia… You are not taking advantage of them. No guilt necessary.

They do it regularly which means they make money from the whatever-percent-of-people who sign up and don't cancel.

  • This is the T&Cs when you click through to application:

$0 Annual fee for the first year and $250 cash back offers apply to selected applicants who apply by 30 June 2017 and are approved for a new Low Rate or Low Rate Gold credit card.

  • I'll apply on 1st May 2018 LOL

  • Can you make 1 payment (e.g. renew passport for ~$280) to qualify for this to receive the cash back?

    • Minimum purchase is $500, not $250…

I would say yes if your renewing passport is >$500. If you buy a phone >$500, that counts, doesn't matter the number of transactions.

  • +1

How long does it take for the cashback to come through?

    • I've used $500 about a week ago and still havn't got got it yet, might give them a call by the end of the week in case I didn't spend it on "eligibke' products and am waiting pointlessly.

      • Yes me too, I spent over $700 just over a week ago and haven't received anything yet…

    • +1

From the cba website: 'Cash back will be credited within 60 days of you meeting the spend criteria'

      • Just thought it'd be quicker since a rep said a week…

        Associatedrandom12 on 02/05/2017 - 21:50
        @lostn:

I am quite sure it gets credited every week for those that met the spend requirement in the past week

    • I just received the cash back! Took two weeks, the same day of the new billing cycle.

  • I applied for this today and they waived the annual fee :)

    • Online or via phone?

  • Or in the bank itself?

  • +2

I applied in branch! Though I just checked the T&C in the brochure I received and it should be waived the first year for all applicants?

  • Activated the card and spent 500 on 11th of May, still waiting for cashback.
Got charged the annual fee 59 dollars already. Long wait.

  • +1

Have been charged the annual fee as well, but still no cashback - certainly thought it wouldn't take this long.

    • Plot twist, they're waiting for the 55 day interest free to go by :(
I already deposited partial but don't wanna deposit the whole thing waiting for the cashback

      • Would they refund the 59 fee if we complain?

        • Don't need to complain based on the previous comments
Just switch it to the no annual fee card after you get the cashback.

        • @Zeral:
So if I switch to no annual fee card I get the 59 dollars refund?

        • +1

          @noskich:
Yeah but make sure you ask for it too since I'm unsure if it's automatic or if done manually.
Contact them after you get your $250 cashback but man this is taking long…

        • @noskich: Yes

        • @John Kimble:
Still waiting for 250, almost 4 weeks now.

        • @noskich:

Just got 250. Has anyone now suceeded in moving accross to a 0 fee card and getting the annual fee 59 bucks back? Thanks.

        • @noskich: I did last year/promotion.

        • @John Kimble:
Thanks. I will definitely try once I spend this 250. Just interested to hear some fresh experiences as it might have changed since last year.
I think I m buying the new Xiaomi Redmi 4 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage from this cashback ($220) - the Geekbuying deal on OZ Bargain.

EDIT: Nope, international transaction fee is 3%, will have to spend this cashback locally and use 28 degrees to get the phone.

  • Hmm, still waiting. Time to contact them? I spent my minimum requirement by 22nd May.

    • I might give them a call today…

  • Just rang CBA, have to go into a branch for identification purposes, that's all they would tell me! I will do that tomorrow and see if that speeds up the cashback issue…

    • So weird/annoying!

      • Yeah, and I wouldn't even know about it had I not called. Certainly not making me a CBA fan.

        • Odd that the phone verification was not enough…plus they already approved you!

They said the same thing for my wife, but in the application stage, but then also emailed/letter sent that they just wanted a proof of employment letter, which we provided online and she didn't need to visit a branch. She has just received the card now.

        • +1

          The hell…
What's that got anything to do with cashback… Already uploaded the ID with bank statements etc and even got approved for them to actually LET US start spending money…

Argh gotta get off my lazy bum and confirm it too sooner or later.

I've been checking here every now and then hoping to see someone say they've got their cashback though…

  • Haven't got mine yet, wonder if i should spend more

  • Some dodgy employer sent out a fake SMS… Never had such a text before from any other providers. Just a heads up for the unaware that may put in their real login details.

"Commbank: Your account was locked and requires additional verification. http://verification-mobile-commbank.com/cgi"

I got careless until I reached the credit card page and was like $_=%=$##. You can put in fake numbers 123456789 to see that any info woukd work too, had to change user pw on like 5+ sites to be safe.

  • So yesterday I went to my local CBA branch for ID verification. Teller there said it would have no impact on the cashback but what do you know - today the cashback is in my account! Hooray.

  • Received cashback $250.
