Still loveing mine ~3.5 years later. Had some minor issue with the hot water spout leaking but other than that just 3.5 years of great coffee.

    • How bad was the leaking? Did you get it fixed under warranty? Mine drips occasionally out of the hot water spout but I just figured it was normal…

      • +1

Sounds like my issue, I believe it was a warranty fix.

It was certainly tolerable, I just had the time back then to get it done :)

If you gonna buy this machine, please please don't get beans from supermarket and blame the machine can't pull good shots.

    • +1

Very good point! The first time I used mine I had this problem, called Breville customer service who explained it was my supermarket beans.

From then on only buy small quantity of freshly roasted beans from a local roaster and no problems. Machine works a treat ;)

you can also get 10% off egift cards with the Entertainment book. :-)

I called David Jones & asked all the available stores, online stock has been sold that's why it's not showing

  • Is there a new model coming out? Anyone have any intel?

    • +1

no idea, but it wont be $799 if there is

      • Yeah, agree. I have had my BES920 for about 19 months now. It's been fairly good but the 2 year warranty is really important. Mine completely failed at the 18 month mark, and it went in for a full repair covered under warranty. They had to replace all the seals, the OPV Valve, the main pump etc.

        • That's no good, guess you would still have 1-2 years consumer warranty due to the high rrp, also good to buy items like this with a credit card that offers 1yr free extended warranty for piece of mind

        • +1

Consumer law would extend the "warranty" to 4-5 years. Manufacturers can't limit the warranty - it's what you'd expect it to last for the price point.

    • Doesn't seem to come up on the Breville website by itself anymore - only as a package with the smart grinder as part number BEP920 (RRP $1,699.95).

At this price with Entertainment card e-gift cards, it's only circa $20 more than my single boiler infuser BES840! Almost want to buy it and sell the BES840.

      • Oracle is the next model up with interested grinder and automatic tamping.

As an owner of Barista Express for about 6 months, it's been frustrating experience to look for water filters. It's sold out everywhere, what's wrong with the supply? I had to buy it from Myer online last time.

    • +1

I just bought a 24 pack on ebay - Charcoal but fits my BES840 perfectly and haven't had any water issues or scaling issues using them for the last 12 months.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/24-Pack-Breville-Replacement-Char…

Even with shipping, sure beats paying $30 for 6.

You can also get the cleaning tablets (same brand, original packaging) delivered for $12 on ebay.

      • +1

Don't waste your time or money with water filters or cleaning tablets. Filters are a wank and cleaning/descaling tablets actually destroy the seals in the machine. The only thing that should be used to clean any coffee machine is plain and simple warm water (no detergent). A coffee machine repairer told me that and I know someone with a Saeco that has made over 27k coffees (electronic counter) and never used descaling or cleaning tablets EVER and still makes great coffee.

        • +1

Depends on your water supply. Mine gets a fair bit of calcium build up.

        • +1

your warm water has magical anti calcium abilities does it?

      • I got these filters from Bing Lee on ebay

Waiting for that guy who always asks,

"how does this compare to the aldi expressi for 100 bux"

    • I only use Blend 43 in my Nescafe red mug coffee maker.

  • These are great. I got one with grinder from the factory outlet ($650!), love it.

    • Damn it, I thought I just got the cheapest one. $799 minus 30% because it was shopsoiled, so $559.30 without a grinder. Frother wand is also broken (probably from someone playing with it) but they'll send for a replacement. Was happy with the bargain but I guess I should be shopping at outlet centres rather than David Jones'…

BREVILLE BES920 "The Dual Boiler" Coffee Machine + 500g Platinum Coffee, $625 on ebay delivered.

    • Look at the add again

    • Refurbished though.

      • My bad.

  • If your local store doesn't have any in stock, you can try going there and ask them to put a backorder for you at the current price. They did it for me in the past (for some Nespresso machine). Worth giving it a go

  • +1

Not bad. I paid $1200 Inc cash back in Nov 2015 (included smart grinder). Machine hasn't missed a beat. Latte art is possible after a lot of hard practice… https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/58647/48110/screenshot…

    • Looks great. What beans are you using?

      • +1

Thanks! Currently bay beans special reserve but I also love Atomica

        • +1

awesome, thank I will look them up. cheers.

@pete2: oh and Google brew ratios. You weigh the ground coffee and the espresso. Made a huge difference to my coffee taste

        • @bargdebarg:
          will do.

  • Good price on the out going model - though I've no idea what the one will have, aside from a higher sell price than $799!

Terrific entry level model appliance. Happy espresso-ing to the new owners (and treat yourselves to fresh beans!)

  • I'm guessing you need to buy a grinder as well for this bad boy? what's a good one to get??

    • +1

The Breville Smart Grinder (linked in post) does a pretty good job, but does make a bit of a mess due to static build up. Also I'm not a fan of the digital display and buttons as they will probably be the first things to die.

The Rancilio Rocky seems a lot more durable but also more expensive.

  • I was one of the lucky ones that got this for $699, still going strong and can't recommend this machine enough. I basically make as good coffee as any one of those bearded hipsters in Newtown/Surry Hills. The trick is simple, just buy solid (and a little pricier) coffee beans, don't waste your time with supermarket ones.

    • Supermarket beans 22g per shot of coffee makes a sweet coffee for relatively cheap. I use double shot grouphead for a single shot extraction.
(industry standard is less g's or grind)
I purchased a pack of Grinders from supermarket while waiting for the 3month subscription to arrive from Pablo & Rusty's.
Now using Pablo & Rusty's, still using 22g's in a double grouphead for single shot. Magic.

    • thanx for the humble brag

I ended up with the pair for less.

        day 1. walked into HN
Breville BES920 Dual Boiler Coffee Machine $798 ($698 after AmEx Cashback) @ Harvey Norman
        paid $798 + $240 for smart grinder (3x Amex cashbacks of $100)
        day 2.
realized TGG price/description [was BES920 with smart grinder for $798].
returned to the same HN and requested them to price match TGG's advert online.
        $240 refunded as store credit.

        end price $498

        • wasnt that an error

i tried that everywhere and nobody would match them and TGG said it was a misprint

        • @furythree:

The HN i went too queries TGG's advertisement.
I said to both managers that a friend of mine puchased the 2units from TGG for $798.
They both read TGG catalog ad for at least 5mins.

I did add i am only after store credit and not a refund in cash.

They gave me the credit i was after. And used it to buy other electronics i was after.

        • @furythree:

The same day that i received the store credit from Hn, i proceeded to a second HN store.

Purchased a 2nd set with accessories and extended warranty for just over $900.
End cost after cashback was approx $600.

Sold 1st set for $990 the next day.

I ended up with my personal set of bes920 and smart grinder pro for no more than $150.

I sold my 3year old nespresso pixie with aerocinno for $55.

End upgrade cost from nespresso pixie = approx $100

(Tad of effort…. but worth the few hours at HN and research time)

        • @chinezejew: holy shit

  • Too late to act on the Woden one, someone must have snapped it!

Also Bing Lee had it on eBay for $795 a couple months ago http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Breville-BES920-the-Dual-Boil…

One of those 10% or 20% codes (if any were running at the time) would have made it a great deal.

Anyone successfully price match it somewhere? I went to Myer just now and was refused. Said $799 is way lower than the cost.

    • Agreed, I wasn't able to price match at Myer due to the same reason.

  • Tried a Melbourne store who advised there are only a few ex-demo's floating around in NSW. Getting harder and harder to find the machine on its own. Lots of bundled Duo's but the price isn't quite right yet.

    • try price matching with binglee online chat they have it for $849, should come to $819 if they match it, $20 differance for delivery

      • +1

Thanks for that! Got it for the $819

  • +1

Harvey Norman have the BES920 available for delivery (for a bargain $5.95) and in-store purchase for $799. However the Harvey Norman website won't display the machine if you browse their Coffee and Beverage section, or just search for Breville. You need to specifically search for BES920, which then takes you to http://www.harveynorman.com.au/breville-bes920-dual-boiler-c… .

The City West Harvey Norman store wouldn't price match Myer on the Smart Grinder Pro ($249 vs $199). Myer were out of stock yesterday, but have them back again - https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/bcg820bss-the-smart-gri… .
