Going to take me a long time to save up my cash rewards for this…

  • On a positive note, you get 15k QF points for booking it! But geez, it is expensive.

  • +16

    Flights not included

    Hadahaa…

  • I wish 😩

  • on another positive note it says the hotel is "Gay Friendly"
    whatever that means!

    • +7

      the hotel is "Gay Friendly"

It's one of their rules… All gay people staying there are required to be friendly.

    • +2

Probably because the Middle East isn't

    • Maldives is a muslim majority country.

  • +1

I'm sure you could find somewhere just as nice in a much less pretentious place for a fraction of the cost!

  • Conrad Maldives Rangali or bust.

  • +5

You can find other island resorts just as good and a include an over water villa for around $700 AUD per night for 2 people, this also includes all your food and alcohol.

Source: recently spent my honeymoon there.

    • Which resort did you stay at Maldives? I am looking for one with reasonable cost to stay for a few nights with gf.

      • Stayed at Sun Island myself in a beach villa, admittedly many years ago now and it was amazing. I see good cheap deals occasionally here for Maldives flights and would recommend it. Also our full food and drinks (including spirits was $65 per day, was very happy with that). Go before they're gone.

      • Veligandu Island Resort. Couldn't recommend it enough.

The all inclusive plus package is what we went with: http://www.veliganduisland.com/dining-all-inclusive

Booked through Agoda with a 10% off coupon when they had a sale, pocketed the Virgin points offered from Agoda, also the 2 points per dollar for travel spent on the Virgin Plat Edge Amex, as well as a juicy Cashrewrds refund.

Anything else you want to know, just ask :)

        • I had a look at the link it looks like it's 550usd for random dates I was looking at which is pretty much 800 aud.

How did you use Cashrewards and agoda discount for them?

        • +2

          @hellohello123:

For Cashrewards, I jumped from here https://www.cashrewards.com.au/agoda for 5.6% cashback (confirmed all now back in my personal bank account as cash)

Used this code for the deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257209 (now expired, need to wait for a new 10%) code

Just did a dummy booking for you - http://imgur.com/a/ajkwE - you would get 53,550 Velocity points now, I only got 40k

Used my Velocity Plat Edge Amex and got 2 points per $1 spend as it was classed as travel on my statement.

Total without seaplane cost (this is a mandatory cost to all the islands)

          • $781.85 before 10% code
          • $703.75 per night if you get a 10% code
          • $703.75 minus 5.6% Cashrewards =
          • $664.34 per night in an overwater Jacuzzi Water Villa, Drinks/Food included (included the best cocktails!)

          • 53,550 Velocity points

          • 2 points per dollar on some Amex cards

Things you can do with 53,550 Velocity points? (points could be slightly out as my analysis was done late last year)

          Domestic:

        • @dazzywazzy:
          thanks for your efforts dazzyway

I was a bit confused, I assumed that the agoda deals didnt inlcude breakfast and wasnt all inclusive like on the hotel all inclusive package,
plus the nights I were looking at were all $1200-$2000 per night,

Obviously I need to keep on looking :)

those are amazing savings you had my friend!!

        • @dazzywazzy:

im a bit confused, I looked at booking.com and the jacuzzi water villa is about $785 per night AUD
is that the same or different to the one you mentioned for the same price

          http://www.veliganduisland.com/dining-all-inclusive

        • @hellohello123:

PM me your dates you want to go and I'll find you the best price with the most inclusions tomorrow!

    • Would you mind telling me where you had this positive experience as i thought about spending a week over there in July mainly for scuba diving?

  • +3

    Yikes $800 a night is a bargain!

I guess to afford it, do as Joe Hockey says, get a good job that pays good money !!!

  • Booked

    • When do we leave?

      • +11

I think winthrop was referring to being caught reading OzBargain on his mobile whilst driving home…

  • out of curiosity, who goes to these places.. I mean.. to afford it, people must be super rich and earning a lot.
Anyone who has been there want to share how much (approx) they earn to spend this much on vacation

    • We went to the Maldives last July for 5 nights on the way back from Europe. We had an overwater bungalow at the Meeru resort. $800 p/n fully inclusive. It wasn't cheap by any means but it was a wonderful experience. We flew Qatar business class on Qantas FF points so it was doable for us.

    • +1

Yeah sure spent $2000 for 7 nights at Conrad Rangali. Much cheaper and better than what Hyatt is offering.

      • +1

Are you sure it was 2000 for 7 nights?
I don't believe the prices are anything like that now (they seem to rise like Sydney house prices each year)

        • +3

Yeah had to use Hilton Honor points for it. You'll be crazy to do it any other way unless you're Uber rich.

  • Depends where u wanna stay… An unpleasant surprise will be the cost of the seaplane to take u there.

  • A bit off topic but i will use this post as a good excuse to ask ozb members for reviews on good places to stay in the Maldives as i want to spend a week over in July mainly for scuba diving.

My best self found deal was a Maldives holiday (honeymoon in 2010).
I was looking for a long time and I eventually found a deal where the online travel agent had a pricing issue.

It was usually 1000 per night plus sea plane. However when I removed the sea plane option it dropped to under 200 per night.

I swiftly booked the honeymoon and arranged the seaplane myself.

I never posted the deal on Hotukdeals (emigrated here recently) as I knew a blanket cancellation would result.

The day before the wedding I had a call from the agent to say I hadn't booked it properly (uh oh) and thankfully they were just checking that I sorted it.

Lily Beach was amazing. Premium all inclusive where you order wine etc from the book and they just give you the whole bottle. You choose your own raw meat / fish and they cook it in front of you.

I was never keen on a lazy holiday until I did that one. I put on a few kilos too. Amazing.

The next year I went to Angaga which was tiny and beautiful but taking food precooked from big Stainless Steel trays etc was a comedown.

Going to the Maldives ruined my expectations of a holiday. :) :(

I would trust ozb community members a lot more than tripavisor.

  • No deal here… just a quick look $5100 on Agoda = you can get it cheaper

Not to mention as already said here this place is nowhere good value as competitors
