  • Oh how I would love for Ozbargainers to descend on her rally like a hoard of locusts, stripping the place dry of pizza and beer and then leaving. "I don't like it", says Ms Hanson.

  • -4

bribery…. her supporters will be fooled for sure..

  • +2

Forgot the bit about the free white klan hood?

  • I would pay for someone to be dressed as a waiter and inform the attendees that all the meat toppings are halal certified after they consume the pizza :')

  • +3

Just to irk her, I hope the first 100 people aren't "Australian".

Hell if I was in WA, I'd show up and start speaking broken English with a Chinese accent just to piss her off (yes I am chinese and not being racist).

    • +5

I feel inclined to show up and show my old 457 Visa as proof of ID :)

I know politics are subjective (they have to be), but I think hate and uninformed facts are not "opinions" which prominent politicians should spread.

      • I'm not sure she would be considered prominent politician. I think she's more of the "class clown" type and the majority of the people that know of her treats her as such. The people that believe/follow her are usually the more ignorant type or are xenophobic to begin with.

Oh and please take a photo with her with that 457 visa… that would be hilarious

    • +1

      Understandable.
But politics is an area some people take very seriously. An old friend was chased for heckling outside a Liberal Party gathering when John Howard was speaking. He sought shelter in a pizza shop, but ended up pushed through the huge glass window with horrific injuries.

Unfortunately supporters feel more determined in their support when 'their event' is "taken over by outsiders".

      • Well that's why I was hoping for all first 100 customers were considered "non-australian" based on her standards. Strength in numbers and all that.

        • +1

I think even experienced OzBargainers on the hunt for a bargain would find it near impossible getting near the beers with hardened Pauline supporters probably already waiting to get near her (& free beer 🍺).

If you really wanted impact, you'd have to be obviously Muslim with the changed Pauline. She says she likes Asians.

I personally wouldn't waste my time on her. Pauline & her party require controversy to stay in peoples attention & make her look relevant to her followers (like happens with Donald).

  • +3

Pauline wants to recreate the Australia of her childhood. When she was born and when she was child, the white Australia policy was still in full swing https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/t_original…
She is probably scared of change. That and a political opportunist
Notice that "advance Australia" is their slogan? It is noted that tbe Australian national anthem uses the same phrase

    • +7

Quite a few people yearn for the halcyon days of their remembered childhood. A safe place (if you fitted the norm of a heterosexual Christian white (male) living in suburbia or toiling in the outback). There was no bloody confusion about who we were back then 😯

Ah those were the days… flies around the outside dunny, 6 o'clock close at the pubs, domestic abuse as normal, real women didn't work, monocultural food - everyday, you were smashed when you got drunk - avocados (what ever they were) were neither eaten nor smashed,…

There's an hypotheses that people are innately "left" or "right" politically & so unlikely to change.
In psychological tests where subjects were presented with 4 images together, 2 showing enjoyable images, the other 2 scarier - "left" people's eyes went first to the pleasurable images, and "right" to anxiety invoking ones.
So it is possible we are drawn to issues that support our intrinsic view of the world, ignoring other possibilities.

Where do I sign up Pauline😀

      • +1

I have not come across that one but I would certainty subscribe to the theory that emotions are the true foundry of our opinions with our logic and ability to organise arguments following obediently.
We deceive ourselves with so-called lucid arguments and clear thought.

        • Yes KT, logic can't Trump emotions. Logic backs up decisions already made. (Precognition is an Interesting area.) Advertisers understand that

The study that political leaning may be established early in life is interesting - with ramifications. Again no use having debates to logically convince others of your views . Maybe just a test in early childhood with your political leaning stamped on the forehead. Would save a lot of time. Relationships could be ended before they start, politicians would only fight for votes among their followers in the right or left. Campaigns would be targeted like advertising toilet paper. Elections could be quick & cheap. And cleansing programs so much more efficient.

        • @Infidel:
          Ha ha excellent.
And Trump and without doubt, Cambridge Analytica.
          Who needs reason?
Now that I think of it, that would be closest to a truthful campaign slogan, if such a thing existed.
We are all open to change but probably less so by the reason and debate of others than we would care to admit. It is emotions that change opinions. If you can somehow address the associated emotional set and change that, you can change an opinion.
Or just harness it in the case of Trump and his team.

      • at Paddington Ale House (Mount Hawthorn - Thursday from 6:30pm)

        • Thanks spedohero, but as a Queenslander all I have to do is wait & she will come to me😢

        • @Infidel: just like the flies to the outside dunny you referred to … :D

  • +9

I'm going to attend and eat that pizza with chopsticks

    • +10

      Attend wearing a burqa

  • +5

So the owner of the Paddington Ale House said "We’re really apolitical here – we’re not for or against it."

    Oh really?

He better be prepared for his venue to be down on patronage for the next few months at least. Or they can just start using it as the One Nation headquarters, and a few other gatherings of extreme nut-jobs. At least we know where they'll be hanging out.

Just purely as a business owner, he must have rocks in his head to think this is a good idea.

    • The facebook comments for the event are in their right to state their distaste, but it's a shame though as the admin seems to be censoring and deleting comments. Seems to me they do infact support Hanson

  • +4

    ‘Pots and Pizzas with Pauline’

Shows how much she knows about WA. We don't call them pots here, we call them middy's.

They're only called pots in QLD and VIC

    • +2

My thoughts exactly. Typical Queensland immigrant.

    • Who drinks 285ml of beer anyway?

Every state has pints, it would have been far easier to do the alliteration with a real beer.

  • +3

I believe the pub's in danger of being swamped by OzBargainers.

  • +5
  • +2

The more you drink, the more sense she makes.

    • quite true…..never thought of that

    • So why only 100 free beers 🍺 😯

      • +1

There's a limit? no deal then….. have to revoke my +ve

      • Coz she only needs an extra 100 PHON supporters :)

    • Unfortunately, I think that applies to most politicians😢

  • +9

She having this at a pub, because she's not allowed within 100m of a McDonalds restaurant for trademark reasons.

  • An interesting lack of a few prolific posters in these comments that overwhelmingly disfavour Hanson.

    • I thought this was the usual "joke post". Enjoying it😯

  • free is free, just grab the beer and pizza on the go? This is Ozbargain

    • A true OzBargainer.
I wonder what toppings on the pizza - my guess is very plain & bland. Nothing exotic. Pineapple?

      • Bush tucker mate……

      • +1

        Smothered in Australian made bigotry.
        Served on Australian flag napkins.

        To resounding rendition of…
        "Australians all let us rejoice,
        For we have beer & pizza free;
        "

      • Its topped with beer bubbles marinated in a beer sauce, generously loaded on a beer base, and served in a plastic glass.

  • +1

I'm Arab and will be rocking up tomorrow!

  • I remember about ten years ago she was doing a book signing at garden city Dymocks. Place was swamped then. Seriously don't understand her.

Anyways, should have an OzBargainer meetup. Someone hell out Ozbargain and folks can grab the pizza and beer and congregate

  • An evening dubbed 'Pot and Pizza' would attract more patrons.

  • +1

BREAKING: The meat on the pizzas has been reported to be Halal…

  • I hope activists completely disrupt this.

    • +3

Think that's what Pauline is hoping for - controversy & maximum media coverage. Pretty cheap for some pizza & beers😯

    • with a middle eastern background … would it be disruption just for showing up for a free pizza/drink (not that i can but just thinking out loud)… lol

    • That's exactly what the right wants.

They want to bait the left into shutting down open forums as an example of how the left does not allow free speech.

It's best to leave them alone in their small groups, because when people start attacking them it turns people on fence towards their cause and puts people like me in an uncomfortable position of saying "let them speak in peace".

  • I understand that Pauline has lost/misplaced hers, so anyone turning up tonight with one of these will be entitled to double pizza and beer:

  • +1

    Actually who is she ah?

  • -1

I'll be going out of my way to not be there. Even at free this is a price I wouldn't ever pay.

    • +2

Good, the less people the better. I'll get more drinks to myself.

    • Yes - Adelaide (by your profile)

      I think I'd choke on a Pauline Pizza 🍕
      (I'm in Queensland, so can't escape Pauline😢)

      • That's right, I'm staying well away from WA until I can be sure I won't wander in to this accidentally.

  • Pauline grew up in the 50's and wants to take us back to her golden days (education, white's only etc.).

I think I might vote ON just so I can get back to Arcades with Space Invaders (the original one with the coloured film over the screen to fake colour), Pac-Man, original BMX's, Robotech (tv series), A-ha, The Goonies and whatever else I loved from the 80's (not the fashion though!).

  • +1

hmm…i'm not even sure how to vote on this deal.

    free pizza
    but
    Pauline Hanson supporters

    :\

    • Could start a food fight ;)

      • +1

Puts on Russell Peters accent What the hell are you doing? You are wasting the food!

      • i understand the appeal of food fights a lot less than i understand the appeal of Pauline Hanson

  • Hmm pay a $1000 to fly to Perth for free pizza or not. Decision decision …

    • Unlikely to be unlawful under WA Electoral Act (Pauline offering beer & pizza - as an inducement) as she is not a candidate.

I wonder if there will be any free food & drink…
She has achieved the media & other attention she wanted & hasn't given anything away. Free advertising.

Protesting (as apparently planned) will just increase the benefit to PHON.

  • It's all kicked off @ the Paddo.

Not sure if it is good news or bad news for Neil Randall, the publican.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-10/pauline-hanson-met-by-…

    • I wonder if they were Ozbargainers being ejected.

    • A futile protest. Free advertising for ON (pub provided f&b). She's been doing similar stunts for so long, stirring people up. Conservative voters see her being harassed by the type of people they hate - so increase support for her😢

  • Look what you've started, spackbce….

John Hammond, a lawyer with a very sharp mind has said this is electioneering and therefore unlawful. ON response is that the pub is paying fir the F&B.

    http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/wa-election-2017/one-natio…

    • "if the supply of the food or drink is being done with the intention to influence the vote of an elector"

Commented above that would very unlikely be unlawful as Pauline is not a candidate in the WA election. It has been promoted as a meet & greet Pauline.

Many pubs offer free f&b for group booking as a venue. Then a candidate or party is not offering any inducement.
Even went to an OzBargain get together years ago in Brisbane where the pub provided the initial food & drink (we never bought any more). I think the only inducement there was to open our wallets, but we were canny OzBargainers😯

      • Not trying to quarrel, but wondering if a supporter of ON can provide F&B. Seems like they should have covered that. I don't really care, just musing.

        • Fellow musing non-carer…
It's all to do with "inducing" someone to vote for a particular candidate. That is change their vote for receiving a gift - a soft bribe.

Most people (apart from hardened OzBargainers) would not consider a free slice of pizza & 1 beer enough to do almost anything - so not much of an inducement.
But a dinner at a top restaurant with good wine might. Tickets for a top stage show might. I think those were the type of inducements the 1907 Act envisaged - not a cheap drink & snack.

As for voting for a particular candidate (changing your vote from another candidate), most attending would likely be ON supporters / voters or interested in voting that way. So unlikely much f&b would be available to any who weren't likely to vote for a ON candidate anyway. (Think they stayed outside to protest.)
Similarly f&b given away to party members at an official ON event should not sway any change in voting.
That is - there would be little or no votes to sway by the gift of f&b.

          Now to your question…
Supporters supplying f&b gift to a function to give out (to induce a change in vote of non-ON voter)…
As the f&b would be supplied to ON as a gift, likely ON would be liable for any action of breaking the Act by supplying it to attendees. Howeved if supplied away from a ON event… unlikely an issue.

F&B supplied by a 3rd party (pub) as a normal commercial arrangement for use of venue could still be seen as supplied by ON to attendees… as they were giving it out.

Its a complex area not likely to be challenged successfully under the Act.
Most elections there would be disputes over technical issues with signage, pamphlets, how to vote cards - which are mainly resolved simply outside the courts. (As an OIC at many Federal elections, I've heard a few complaints.) Its up to the WA Electoral Commission to decide any case brought before them.
Common sense is it's a non issue - there was likely no inducement. The f&b were to attract punters to the pub & event, not to directly induce a change of vote.
I doubt anyone ever thought just the f&b could sway votes. The media just wanted to beat up a story to sell. We've had a bit of fun😀

I had expected the free f&b may be pulled by ON, as it was not important for the event (meet Pauline) & organisers could lash out at the media, the lefty protesters outside, and everyone not ON for stealing their beers! (That's how I would have advised to spin the situation to their additional advantage.)

Not a lawyer, just a very naughty boy😯

  • If OzBargainers really want free food & drinks - do what Pauline's supporters did & find a pub with free promotion for group bookings. (Better than crashing someone else's event where we might not be welcomed, listening to political speeches & 'casual racism'.)

Organise an OzBargain meet up with free f&b at a pub or venue in your area. Post it on OzBargain. We've done it before & again

Oh look, looks like OzBargainers did turn up :D

    • Oh, you mean Members of the far-right True Blue Crew, "against Islamisation, open border policies, refugees, asylum seekers" were among One Nation Supporters inside the Paddington

Trust they enjoyed the free beer 🍺 & pizza 🍕 - no reports of what the toppings were.
      OzBargain is a broad church😀

  • Free pizza & beer didn't have desired effect on voters😢

ON gained only 5% of lower house votes, while earlier opinion polling showed around double of that. Supporters expected a much higher lever of support.

Pauline said earlier it was her decision as party leader to do preference deals. Now she blames everyone else for the failure to gain expected level of support - due to the preference swap. Ah politics😯
