  • How can you stack without a lid?

    • +5

Inserts on the sides stack with the base of the top one

      • +2

Nope it actually isn't stackable on top each other. I went to have a look today and they only stack within each other when they're empty.

    • +1
      1. They are stackable when they are empty
      2. You can stack them up if you turn 90 degrees for each level
      • +1

You can stack them up if you turn 90 degrees for each level

        I doubt that's necessary

      • +23

you turn them 180 degrees to stack

        • +7

I did 360 once with a similar crate

          @leTintin:
Any degree that is an integer multiple of 180 should do, I think.

        • +6

@tg: any degree that is a multiple of 180 but is not a multiple of 360 will work!

        • +11

You lot are the Tony Hawk of storage crates.

        • @leTintin:

Haha prove it with a video!

        • You can even stack them sideways!

        • +9

you turn them 180 degrees to stack

I tried that, but with no lid, everything falls out.

        • @leTintin:

Check out Tony Hawk here :)

Who's gonna land the first 1080?

        • @manic:

You have it upside down (like you profile pic!)

        • @shmahoo: Only if it's a leap year

I am going to the Bunnings to test the stackability after work.

  • Dunno if Ashfield has anymore left.

    • …Or haven't got them in yet as OP said they are new product line

      • +1

        Just grabbed some.
After you walk in turn right. Walk about 25m and they are a floor stack on a pallet next to the clear storage ones. Ashfield bunnings.

        • Thanks, might grab some tomorrow.

  • +5

So I guess you could stack heaps of them and then buy one lid?

    …for $9.49

    • Ahahhahaha

    • +3

      Outrageous, $9.49 for a lid.

    • +3

      That is daylight robbery.

I don't know about these black storage boxes, but the clear "All Set" storage boxes break incredibly easily. I refuse to buy them anymore, no matter how cheap, because it is just a pain to deal with the inevitable cracks and broken, sharp edges.

My advice is to get this 60 litre tub instead for $10 and save yourself the pain.

I have several of these (the 100 litre version) and am really happy with their strength and usability. They smell a bit "plasticy", but is fine after a while.

And they come with a lid.

    • +5

Agree 100% on the clear ones cracking too easily, thank you for suggesting a decent alternative.

    • +2

Wasn't just me then. They don't hold up to moving that is for sure. Waste of money!

  • +3

Good old Masters days. Plenty of these then.

    • +1

I was thinking about that yesterday at bunnings as I stared at the $14 potting mix on the closest endcap to the cash registers.. Masters would have had a 3 for $15 deal

  • Would an anova sous vide be able to be used in this?

    • Too large, Anova only supports something less than 20L from memory. I use a 13L tub with lid from bunnings which was less than $5 and works great, no need to top up due to evaporation on long cooks.

      • +1

Do you insulate your tub? I wonder how much heat is escaping, the little sous vide will be running on full heat the whole time to keep up?

        • +1

Mine is not insulated, I don't cook at much over 70 degrees for any length of time. A mate uses a mini eski with his which seems to work well. Logic would follow an insulated tub would be less stressful on the unit. I've toyed with putting the plastic tub inside a styrofoam fruit box, but problem is the storage factor at our place.

  • Aww yeah. These look perfect for my worm farm project (Y)

  • +8

Looks like i found my Slurpee cup for this:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/292338

  • These break at the handles as soon as u put weight in

  • Cheers got 10 of them. Why is it when I buy something like this I have instant buyers remorse while driving away wondering why I didn't buy 20 instead…

    • +1

I opted for the $7.98 with a lid that is actually stackable on top of each other.
