  • Can someone explain how you would use this as baby monitor? Will it require you to have your phone stream through the night? Does it somehow alert your phone?

In the market for a new baby monitor as my motorola is dying. Baby monitors on the market use ancient technology compared to what's in smartphones….

Would not recommend this at all. The app pretty much requires every android permission available. The camera has also been proven to be connected to Chinese servers 24/7, even when not recording. Call me paranoid, I don't give a (profanity). It's your call if you give a shit about privacy.

If you have ordered one, there's an open source hack available to secure it/your privacy.

    https://github.com/fritz-smh/yi-hack/issues/118

    • I had these concerns, too. I will be placing mine in the garage and solely want it for motion detection where there shouldn't be any motion (going away for a while and had the place broken into previously).

Don't mind if the Chinese have a lookieloo, my kids won't be on the cameras when in use.

  • Where do you eneter the code?

    • On the desktop site register an account and click on "Proceed to Checkout" in the shopping cart. You'll find "Apply Coupon Code" under Payment Method.

  • Mine is showing up us $26.79 US after applying the code. Any ideas?

I see it is $4.40 discount off total order. SO if you want two you need to order twice.

  • ONVIF support anyone know?

Got one from last deal and will be putting in an order for at least one more.

Great little camera for what it is.
Uses very little power so any reasonable sized powerbank will keep it going for quite a while. I think I get about 15-20 hours from my xanomi 10,000mah (I think that's the size, it's the middle sized one - not the huge one with two charging ports)

Keep in mind the feed may not be secure - since I'm using it mainly as a skycam not a huge deal. Have gotten some great timelapses, although I wish it did slightly better quality. Did a good one yesterday of an orb spider setting up its web. IR is handy for nighttime stuff - has pretty reasonable viewing distance even in pitch black.

They've made some great progress on hacking this little camera - don't have link handy but it's on github. Still in early stages but looking promising.

Oh yeah - I leave it in my living room while I'm at work and I can use the speaker/microphone function to call out to my cat - he comes every time without fail, looking puzzled.

    • 15-20 hours of recording?

How long would it last say if it was triggered by motion detection 10 times a day?

      • I'd say it'd last exactly the same amount of time.

There's a setting for 'continuous recording' which I have switched on - using 32GB card so there's many many days worth of space. Will have to see how much the typical day takes up - but it's not heaps. The video files are relatively small.

AFAIK the camera is always on and drawing power at the same rate - even when continuous recording is disabled.
edit: hrmm on second thought maybe it does make a difference, will have to test it.

One last thing to add - wifi range is pretty damn good. Not sure how they do it without an external antenna.

  • I accidentally forgot to add the coupon so messaged customer service to see if they could apply the coupon. They messaged me back to say no, just cancel the order and they would credit my site account after which i would need to do a withdraw process to get my money back to account. Haven't heard back from customer service for over 24 hours. Mega slack

  • wondering, how to set this up as Security Camera?
pretty sure, the USB cable wont be long enough if we put this outside house and lure the cable to Electrical Outlet

  • Anyone tried the smoke and CO alarm? How does it work?

Do you need extra equipment to pair with the camera to use these functions?

    Thank you for your reply.

    • It just detects the sound

  • i've got one of these and it doesn't allows me to speak when i tap speak button since the last update. does anyone has/had the same problem ? let me know if there is any fix for this. Thanks in advance

Hold your finger down while you talk.

      • Thank you, didn't knew that was the update for . It worked

        • +1

Yeah only reason I tried it was because that's how my Foscam behaves. :)

  • Do you have to use a Xiaomi phone for it to work?

    • Nope.

  • Can I use the camera as motion detector to trigger the Yeelight? Have a look but can't get it to work as camera is using mi home app while Yeelight is using Yeelight app(tried Yee light in mi home but didn't work)

    • Wondering a similar thing, which is does this integrate with the Xiaomi smart gateway and associated stuff? Nothing in the original post about needing the gateway, but it does have the same app if I'm not mistaken

  • ordered two but got a refund for one of them, anybody else with the same issue?

    • Hey. Ypu bought and didn't vote. Isn't this some type of etiquette here? Put in enough effort to ask for help but not enough to even press the 'thank you' button.

      • apologies- used hubbys phone yesterday during time of purchase so wasn't automatically signed in. looks like I might just repurchase again fingers crossed.

        • -2

No, the intention of rhese codes is to attract new customers to their web site in the hope of future business with that individual.

The reason you got refunded is because the seller wants as many different customers as possible to this limited product.

What you initially attempted is "double dipping" - no one likes double dippers, hence your refund.

Now all you are doing is attempting to eat two chips.. Thats not likely to work as well.

If you want more than one, you need to get someone else to order it for you.

          Order under your hubby's details.

        • @supnigs:

WTF are you on about? I ordered two and they sent two.

        • Sent@rorymeister: aent you a lucky fellow. Enjoy this sticker 🌈

  • Anyone knows if this takes pictures on motion detection and sends as SMS or store on clouds?

    • +1

I just tested it. Sent an instant push notification. Wish the app was in English, or even Chinglish! I'm on Android, so it largely is, but not everything.

      • was it just a warning push notification or you also got a picture of the object than triggered the sensor?

        • Just a notification that links to a recording. I can't be sure though as I am yet to put an SD card in

        • @rorymeister: thanks

        • @Tomal62:

Whacked and SD card in it. Links to the motion detected.

This motion sensing is ridiculously sensitive. Detecting speckles of dust and light. Anyone notice this too? Does it detect sound?

  • Any one managed to update the firmware to 3.0.3.56 successfully? My update reaches up to 32% and restarts without updating.

    • Looks like its not a good idea to update from reading this forum:
      http://en.miui.com/thread-489563-1-1.html

    • Yes, no problems with that. It looks like you need to have selected 'Mainland China' in location settings for anything to work.

      • Thanks Newcroft. I tried upgrading tonight and it was successful. Must have been some glitch in the system before.

I purchased on 15/2, and it arrived today. The instructions Lightinthebox provided are helpful enough to get the camera and app running. The camera is OK, but the app is clunky. My main hope in buying this was to use it with BlueIris, but hours of trying have left me frustrated. Some clear enough instructions are here: http://en.miui.com/thread-196713-1-1.html, but it didn't work for me. Can anyone help?

    • +1

That link is for a different camera.

      • Yes, but another forum was stating that the firmware is the same.

        • +1

The previous hack link has the code and details on turning on rtsp on this specific device
          https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/blob/master/README.md

        • @k0ka2: Thanks. I'll try that when I get a chance.

        • +2

@Newcroft: OK, managed to get the ISO file written to SD card. On inserting the card I get the 'ding ding' sound to confirm it's loaded. I'm able to log in to the camera at <IP address>/cgi-bin/status, and have hacks enabled. Yet, can't find the rtsp feed on ONVIF Device Manager or get an image loaded on BlueIris. Funnily enough, BlueIris confirms "RTSP port detected!" with the 'find/inspect..' query.

Edit. Got it working. For those following, @k0ka2: had the right link above. I just needed to follow instructions better. The format for the stream is RTSP server (url: rtsp://device-ip/unicast). On BlueIris the Video Path is simply /unicast

        • +1

@Newcroft: Excellent work. I might try that myself. I used to have Blueiris (running in stealth mode of course) on my laptop way back when it was v2. Must re-visit it to see how much it has changed. My preference now is running tinycam pro on my android phone.

    • your turnaround time was fast. I ordered on 15/02 too. Got a shipped email on 17/02 and then got a "your package is on its way" email today 02/03 linking to a 404 tracking url lol………

  • Thanks for the post.
Tried getting one but the coupon code does not work anymore.
Anybody know of coupons that work?

    • hi sir, we are planning to make a new deal for this on this week, please keep attention, and don't miss it again.

    • hi dear, we bring it back with lower price here, hope you like it
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297189

  • Ordered on 15Feb2017 and delivered on 3rdMar2017. Sydney CBD.
I think I will hold upgrade to new firmware until all good.

    Thanks.

  • Having trouble setting this camera up. Installed app on my z5, plugged in, created an account, logged in, add device, pick camera model, press reset button, get told that camera device is found, press on the notification and takes me to a screen that tells me to press the setup button, press it again, then nothing, next button stays greyed out. Any ideas where I am going wrong? Should mention tried multiple countries in case that mattered, didn't seem to make too much difference

    • Click on the row of text just above the next button.

      • Thanks ks mate will try when I get home

      • That did the trick, for some reason though it took a number of goes to log in to my wifi, eventually it worked.

Camera is ok, I am set to mainland China but I have set the language to English. The app is far from being all in English though, seems to be only 50%, whole sections dont have an English word. Quite frustrating, especially in the automations section, there's a screen with a title and 5 options all in Chinese, hasn't anyone developed a guide for this?

  • All working fine but time stamp is Chinese time. How can I change that?

  • Also the volume on the speaker is very low. Any options?

  • First camera had trouble connecting to my wifi (said it wasn't a home network!) and then eventually worked and the second one has exactly the same problem, but I can't get around it.

    Any idea at all?

    PS. First camera is AWESOME!!!

    • Set region to China in the app. Solves connection issues.

      • Locale is Mainland China and Language is English (although most text is still CHinese).

Still lists my home network as a public network.

        • How do I get support?

  • Anyone received it yet, ordered mine on 16 Feb still nothing

    • Same, I haven't received it either.

    • Same - I'm still waiting.

    • Hope this wont be like another Gamiss Mi Band 2 - episode

      • Mine showed up today - will be setting it up tonight :)

      • Mine, arrived today too

    • Camera finally arrived today.

  • for those interested - box came with a usb power adapter (with chinese prongs). previously bought one from gearbest that had a different looking box and no usb adapter. odd…..

  • Guys has anyone noticed that they can view the camera from outside your home wifi now? I clicked it today from work and could view it live without any modding/hacking?!?

  • Got mine just yesterday. A whole month for a tracked item. Another item (un-tracked) I bought same time I received 2 weeks earlier, go figure :(

  • Got mine today too. Lol what did I order, half of it is in Chinese in the set up and app. Lol oh wells.
