iPhone 4 16GB Virgin, $44/Mth 24mth, $300 Call 300MB Data. Other V Plans Not as Mindblowing

344

This will be available in store, but we dont know if its going to be online yet.

Total cost $1056. Compare this to $849 outright from apple. Unlock free after 6mth i believe. Otherwise $250 fee.

I think this is substantially good value, considering that the best you could get 16gb 3gs for, throughout most of its domination, was 49/mth, with less call value.

I don't work for virgin or apple.

Other v plans not as mindblowing.

Actually, for $10 more the extra 1.7GB of data is quite good.
$54 for $300 of calls and 2GB of data is very nice.
$59 for $450 of call and 2.5GB of data is almost mindblowing ;)

    • how much does optus offer for $59?
even tho its not mind blowing its great for ppl who dont call much (or wont be needing that much call credit if using the V to V unlimited) i like how they give u the option to choose to pay that extra $10 more a month +1 from more for that.

    • Do anyone actually use that much data usage?

      • yes, because you can tether your phone to your pc and use it as a modem for ur pc ;) i could use 100 gigabytes plus lol

        • +1

yeah i agree, and because virgin has free tethering, and because some places have 3G connections faster than my 1.5MBit adsl connection at home, I can see many youtube watchers burning through that in a couple of days!

  • wow awesome competitive to optus and i get free v to v

  • -1

I guess Optus 29+53 12 month contract is much better, only 984. Not pretty can get 2 two access fee free for this plan,

    • +3

cant find any details on 12mnth contract online. Got a link? Also 2 months free access is only eligible for 12month BYO or 24 month contracts i believe.

I'm impressed that you could understand John Kelvins post!

where's my positive vote then ('o')/

          edit: woot ;P

      • i saw the 12 months the night before.pretty sweet for 29 cap for 12 months
but today. i cant find it, only 24 months

        anyone mind to clarify?
        thanks

Guys, this iPhone 4 plan is everyday price. This post should be moved to forum.

    • sorry, I'm new here. Would som1 care to explain this?

    • +2

Everyday price and bargain aren't mutually exclusive.

Virgin is offering the iPhone on cheaper plans than its competitors are. Therefore it is a "bargain".

  • Basically, getting a 32Gb iPhone on Virgin is a rip off. On some plans you end up paying $480 extra for a 32 vs a 16 on the same plan. The difference in RRP for these two phone is about $150.

no negs for the troll turd?

    • +3

but u bothered to open the deal page anyway

Mr Turd - you know how negative voting works by now. Vote revoked and 1 day penalty for living up to your name. Please play by the rules here - tahnk you

I'm paying $49.08/month (handset included) for the iPhone 4 16GB on Telstra with $400 of calls/text/data and 1.2GB of data included per month. I think that's substantially better value then this deal from Virgin, particularly if you factor in the coverage and speed of the Telstra Next-G network compared to Optus/Virgin.

More details in the bargain I posted: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29148

    • +1

      voted up ur bargain ;)

However, not evry1 wants/needs Telstra coverage. They might be happy to have free V2V (does Optus hav similar free intra-network calls?) or save themselves the $4/mnth on the cheapest (AFAIK) iPorn4 plan.

iPhorn4 is rly nice, but i still prefer WinMo/Droid fones:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w83UQkiuNZQ
      "It's a robot" >:)

      • Yeah, the free calls included should definitely be a consideration — I nearly went to Vodafone for the unlimited V23 and V2V calls, but in the end the coverage/speed of Telstra was more important to me. All down to personal preference here, I think. :)

I also have a Google Nexus One for development purposes, and will probably get a Windows Phone 7 phone too. I find the bitching about recent smartphones somewhat silly (e.g. "iPhone4 sucks"). They're all great phones, with strong points and weaknesses — people will have genuine reasons for preferring one over the other and aren't necessarily mindless "fanbois" for doing so. :)

      • +1

Your fingers are obviously so used to typing such words that they are offering too much resistance in typing the word "phone". Keep it up!

    • Some staff members at t-life george street were saying the telstra bonus data doesn't last for the length of the contract, only til Nov. I have a feel that's incorrect, but we still need official answers!

edit: Not to mention 99% of people aren't going to have an ABN or are going to apply for one…

And a letter of authorisation on company letterhead? WTF I don't even own a printer.

      • I was at T-Life George St too, and the rep who dealt with me said it was for the length of the contract — he also printed out the web page with this bonus data offer and affixed it to my contract. Also, if you follow the link I posted in my bargain it says pretty clearly: "bonus 1GB data allowance per month during their contract term at no extra charge" and also:

"The bonus data allowance will only apply for the 24 month contract term. Customers will need to contact Telstra at the conclusion of their contract to cancel the bonus data allowance or they will be charged".

Yeah, the requirement for a "Letter of Authorisation" is pretty bureaucratic — I didn't have one with me, but they allowed me to type one up using Word on a store computer and they printed it out for me. I would have gone home without my iPhone otherwise. :)

        • Thanks for clarifying. The extra data was so last minute there's been a lot of confusion about it..

Great deal … Virgin caps include international numbers so it's great for people who phone overseas!

    • yep, this is an important part, and saves my family heaps calling other family overseas

no other companies' cap plan includes international calls!

      • It looks like Vodafone's do as well, under 'cap inclusions' it says 'international' and lists rates for txt etc.

        • i didn't realise voda started including it in their caps

      • I'm pretty sure 3 have been including overseas calls for years.

My old $29 cap had up to say $70 to call overseas. Used to call my brother in London and it was all included in the cap.

    • I am on 3 $49 cap and all the cap quota of $300 can be used for international call. bye bye international calling card.

  • Was thinking of getting one, until they discovered the antenna problem. Rumors have it, that they may release a revision in September, after they discontinue giving out free cases.

  • Whos we. Are you a rep?

  • Do we get free bumpers in Australia too?

    • Not from the networks. You have to go to istore to redeem it for free.

Neg for average plan. Not OzB material.

    • pretty sure u do
      its until 30 september 2010
u have to d/l a apple program to get it (in us thats how u had to do it…)

    • It seems curious that people are prepared to buy a product with a known flaw. A flaw that can only be fixed by applying a sticker to the product's case. What's more, the local media was full of photos today featuring these customers lining up at midnight to buy the flawed product. Amazing.

        ignorance.

just like a religion, these fanbois already take 'apple' as one.

and just like religion, they will ignore any nay-sayers about it.

        • +2

Actually, true ignorance is refusing to believe the iphone has nothing good worthy of buying.

We're fully aware of the massive apple fail… But believe it or not, its not the end of the world.

I have a theory, that those who cant accept the fact that different people have different priorities and preferences, are the true fanboys of their own ignorant ways.

          • @kimmik: For me, it's the glass back (it already has a glass screen on the front) and can also shatter… Who the heck wants a phone that can shatter both sides!?

      • I find it very strange also that people are so eager to buy a product that has a clear and known flaw. I am fairly sure that Apple will release a new revision well before next June and I will definitely save my money for that.

        • +2

You'd cop shit from dating megan fox too if she paid off in some other ways

So sick of everyone saying my iPhone 4 is faulty. Even my nan has said it because people believe the exaggerated media coverage.

I'm using my iPhone 4 and it is fine. If I go out of my way to hold my phone so tight that it is an unnatural grip, the bars drop..but the call does not and data still works fine.

There is no problem for me.

My HTC Desire does the same thing. I almost think the HTC is worse.

  • Just went into Pitt St store in Sydney and they've sold out anyway

  • -1

No bargain here. The media is already littered with free advertising for apple. Do we really need it here as well.

    • Woops. You better not look up my post on justin bieber hair products then…

    • +3

hehe, better not visit www.ozbargain.com.au then:
their site is littered with free "advertising" for many major businesses and corporations :P

  • The good thing about Virgin plan is you can call international using the same cap. But then customer support is less than average.

The other good thing is Virgin offers free tethering… this is true for old iPhone 3GS packages. Not sure about new iPhone4 packages.

  • Virgin plan is quite good for 16gb but Optus, Voda and 3 surely offer better plans for 32gb iPhone.

  • Ok guys, i think there is a fair bit of agenda behind the neg votes here. All three have mentioned how this is not a special price. Thats true, its the launch price. But have you followed the 3gs price trends?

The 3gs at launch, was going for some $60/mth. Then 3wks post launch, virgin massively reduced prices, to $49/mth for 16gb. Sold out in a weekend. Long waiting lists. Then a few weeks later the price increased again, and held high till only a month or so ago.

This 44$ plan of v, or the $49 plan on telstra, are astoundingly cheap. Dont discredit that just because they are not calling it the "special price". And dont be surprised if this price is not here to stay, and that stock will be wringed dry for weeks or even months.

Another thing is, the telstra plan is indeed better value, for only slightly more cost. However thats saying a honda civic is a bad deal because the mazda 3 costs slightly more and has more power. Well, some ppl prefer to use a virgin. phone.

Stumo and stevarja, have obvious prejudices behind their vote. You dont like apple advertising, or apple "fanboys" eh. Seems like you should've been picked off the jury.

    • +1

i agree, $44 is the cheapest of all the plans, yet people are still complaining?

    • Ahhh, so you work for Apple, I get it now.

      • -1

        yes i work for apple.

        Cough

    • yes telstra $49 plan seems better but i dont have a business!

      • +3

i agree, the telstra deal is probably better value overall… but for cheapest price available to actually get a iphone4, there's no cheaper pricing thus far than this deal. And at the end of the day, Ozbargain is about cheapest prices available right? +vote given.

  • +1 from me as well

  • Remember that Virgin (who I'm currently with and can't wait to be rid of) charge by the minute and have flagfalls of about 40c

  • -2

    not a bargain

    • +2

Can you find a cheaper/better plan? THEN SHUT UP.

      • looks like that guy deleted his post…
or the mods did it for him ;)

  • A bargain will be getting this and laughing at all the apple haters….
    HAHAHA
EDIT: The iphone 4 was totally sold out everywhere i called in NSW.
    I went with 3 (carrier) instead 49 cap plus 5 a month

  • Kimmik - In the future could you please declare your affiliation with products similar to this. All it takes is "Disclosure: i work for apple as a genius" etc and nobody would need to worry.

    • Hi davo, what i really need is a sarcasm disclosure. Hehe

      • +1

fair enough, us (the mods) dont get time to read every single comment (and their context) on the site.

  • iPhone 4 16GB costs $859 outright from apple….not $849 ;)

  • Normal pricing, not a bargain.

If you use 3G a fair bit, you're better off going with Telstra and paying that little bit extra.

    Not to mention Virgin's call rates are atrocious - 99c/min + 40c flagall! :O

    • The point of this post is that you cant find a cheaper plan… What can you expect from the cheapest?

Actually its no longer the cheapest. Optus's 2mth free means their $19/mth plan for ip4 costs $42.42/mth. Gives you $70 credit plus 100mb. Obviously no free calls like v2v.

And telstra deal is no longer that good, due to the $150 price hike. You could get more call credit and data for effectively $1/mh less with optus, who has the $59plan with 2mth free access. And you dont need an abn.

I'm aware of telstra network benefits. But not everyone has an abn.

      • No worries, each to their own of course. I didn't vote negative as it is a bargain for some and I didn't vote positive as the deal is not for me…so no harm done. :)

Btw, I was referring to the personal $49 Telstra cap plan, not the business one. If you make a lot of calls, then the Telstra plan would definitely be better due to Virgin's call rates (last post) and they're billed per minute!
