ANZ FF Platinum Credit Card with 50K QFF Points and $0 First Year When Spend $2.5k in First 3 Months

200

First posted by arctan https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284985, although it seems to be back on again.

Online only offer, with the bells and whistles of a normal platinum card. Not as good as some of the other credit card offers atm (ANZ Black, NAB Platinum), but the annual fee wavier is sweet for ones who churn through cards to get the points.

T&C's copied from the website:

Be 18 years of age or over
Have a good credit rating
Be a permanent Australian resident, earning a minimum annual income of $35,000
Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum income annual income of $35,000 or have $50,000 in Australian Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) accounts

This is the way I would see it

      50k for free

      or 25k extra for $250

I'd personally pick the ANZ one since it's free, for the spending part, you will be able to meet it if you just put all your bills on it so that's not really an issue.

I see, does one typically cancel their card after the 3 months and once the QF points have been received?

Does that have any negative impact on credit history etc?

        • +1

Not too sure on this, sorry.

I've heard people usually cancel theirs within the year. I've only ever applied for the ones that I want to keep.

        • +1

The amount of inquiries lodged also could negatively impact your credit history. As that would signal to a lender that you have applied for credit left right and center. There's no reliable way they can check to see if you still hold the card or have cancelled it, that's why they assume the worst, and use the number of inquiries as one of the triggers to decline an application.

That being said i've applied for so far 7-8 credit cards and haven't had an issue yet.

        • @Chumpmaster:

          Ah yeah that makes sense;

In terms with relationship with the bank, would that have an effect with applying with them in the future if one were to sign up and cancel after receiving their benefit promo points?

I'm curious how people go about this haha as i've had my CC with CBA for a while have a good report so curious as to what tactics people play

        • @Godric:

          1. get an everyday account with a bank that doesn't charge you to access your own money (eg ING)
          2. Hoover up the points from the big 4

I would think that most people would keep the card for 11.5 months to try to at least maximise options like free insurance, the AmEx deals (especially ShopSmall in November) and other benefits like that.

As for credit history. I believe that having 4 credit checks a year is ok, any more then a flag might be raised. This was according to an ANZ CC application person I spoke to a few weeks ago.

        • @Chumpmaster: not really, if you can provide the credit card close letter, it won't a matter.

Anz Frequent Flyer Black. 75K Points No Annual Fee.

      https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

      • Unfortunately was denied. So maybe given the lower requirement I can try applying for this one.

I already have the ANZ FF Black card and was thinking my spouse could apply for this. Does anyone know if your spouse can sign up to this deal if they are an additional card holder to an existing ANZ card? Would they also need a separate QFF account?

    • +2

Your wife and apply as her own person. It does not matter if she is a subsidiary card holder as she is not personally liable for that card.

    • +1

Yes they would need their own QFF account but one can be created (for free) as part of the application for the card.

Doh! Rules me out as I took out the ANZ Black card point offer last year. :(

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

ANZ has gotten smarter with their T&Cs these days.

    • So holders of an ANZ travel rewards card can get the points?

For anyone shopping around for a good AMEX-issued FF credit card deal, a reminder that there are 2 excellent bonus point offers that end today:

Explorer card (110,000 AMEX points with referral (equivalent of 82,500 FF points - enough for one way in business to Europe), plus $400 travel credit and smartphone screen insurance. $395 annual fee. OzBargain deal post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262944

Qantas Ultimate (up to 112,500 Qantas points with referral, plus return domestic airfare, $450 annual fee). I can't post a link to that deal, as I am marked as a referrer (post now links only to the wiki), but you can search for it, or someone else can post it.

  • I got this offer back in June 2015, would I be eligible to for the points again?

    • If you CANCELED your ANZ card 12 or more months ago then no issues. Actual AMEX (non-bank issued) cards are 18 months.

    • So to elaborate on what danielh just said, it is dependent on when you cancelled and not when you applied.

      • +3

        Don't you mean illuminate? 😄

        • +1

thanks for shedding some light on this matter

    • Is one month enough time to be eligible again?

      • +1

One month beyond the 12 months since you last cancelled the card? Then yes.

  • Can't find when the offer if valid to. Anyone?

  • Does anyone know if my VEDA score is affected if they request for pay slips and I don't respond because I decide to not proceed with the application?

    • It will be affected if a credit check was made but I think it depends on how many Credit Checks you had made in the last 12 months. More than four and I think you start flagging up as a potential risk.

  • Does paying bills count towards the $2500?

    • Yes unless it is specifically excluded like a tax bill. Things like water, gas, mobile bills are fine. Please note though that some billers may charge a % fee to use a credit card to pay for the bill so please be aware of this when making your payments.

      • Cool cheers

  • If anyone is still here the 90 days begin on the first purchase : D

    • so someone could wait 6 months then start using the card then spend $2,500 to get 50,000 points$

  • if i already have a Travel Adventures card can i have this card a well for the qantas points?, i dont want to cancel my other card because of the free flight

    • Yes. But you will need to apply for it.
