  • great price, darn just got an S7Edge off my friend for $650, tempting :)

    • +9

It just my opinion of course, but as a former G5 owner and current S7 owner, I think you've ended up with the right phone.

      • oh ok lol

      • Whats wrong with the LG 5?

        • +1

Objectively, perhaps nothing. But here's how I personally felt about it:

          • the display temperature is far too cold for my tastes, and there is (or at least was) no way to adjust it (short of rooting/installing custom kernels etc)
          • I don't like the way the glass curves at the top of the display (it was off-putting somehow), and I'm not a fan of the overall aesthetics either
          • not only isn't it water resistant, its modular design puts it at the complete opposite end of that spectrum
          • the modular design itself somehow made the phone feel… disjointed. The fact that you could slide the bottom of it off and that half the guts would come out with it just didn't engender feelings of quality or physical integrity (and in my opinion the LG G5 "friends" range of modular addons just were impressive enough to balance out such a compromise)

The G5 could have been awesome, particularly if the LG 360 VR Headset had also been more impressive, and particularly if it had been bundled with a couple of other "friends". But they stopped too far short of the mark.

Again, though, this is just one persons subjective opinion.

The other side of the equation is that I think the S7-series phones are such great products that it's difficult for any other flasghip device to definitively come out on top.

        • @cainn: Thanks

  • +1

    Wow nice price

  • +21

G4 was my favourite phone, then it got bootloop. Don't want to risk it.

    • +15

same. I loved my LG G2… hated my G3 and then fell back in love with the G4….. then….. bootloop happened….. LG's response: 1 tiny article on androidauthority.

Bascially saying meh if it happens it happens, we'll just replace the motherboard.

never mind you loose all your data. AND if the phone has been dropped or has a crack in screen or scuff mark they WOULDNT cover it for bootloop lmao.

I really want to like LG again but im struggling whenever i see the letters "LG" to me it stands for Looping Garbage.

sad really, the G5 does look nice though - I think the HTC10 or the S7 are better offerings.

      • +21

        Nah.. LG = looping Guaranteed

        • +1

Yup. People are already reporting bootloop issues with G5 (my G4 got bricked)

      • +2

Same here. G2 was solid and reliable with decent performance, everyone after, RUBBISH! LG's response has been pathetic. Enjoying my Motorola G4 Plus now.

    • +4

Didn't take long for a bootloop comment

      • Ex-G4 bootloop sufferer
  • +11

Never LG again, I have 2 bricks worth of $1400, thank you though, I know you have good intentions OP, but the method you chose is a bit sneaky ☺

    • elaborate re sneakines

    • yes please elaborate

  • +17

    Comes with free bootloop.

    • +3

?not mentioned in deal or on mobileciti website.

      only includes protector and case

      • +19

free bootloop takes 6-12 months to redeem. will appear the morning you are leaving for holidays/big job interview/other big life event

        • +2

Oh This happened to me very bad, Never ever LG again!

  • +1

    V10 also got boot looped?

    • +2

I wonder if V20 got the freebie bootloop too?

  • Wow much boot loop, very maddening!

  • +1

I have a g4, and even bootloop aside, I haven't been in love with the phone.

    1) Battery life is quite poor, especially compared to my beloved Xperia Ultra.

    2) It gets hot when using for internet, like quite warm.

    3) It's buggy; it crshes randomly - presumably memory leaks or something.

    4) The camera is good, but I have to put it on manual to get a decent shot, the metering is bloody awful and it's always over or under exposing when on automatic. My old samsung S3 was more pleasurable for me to take photos with, even if the end product was worse.

5)The pattern unlock is super slow to work, takes about 5 seconds to unlock after swiping.

    6) The "swipe to outside the circle" to answer a call is the dumbest thing ever. Just give me a freaking button to push. If you don't swipe far enough it won't answer the call. Stupid.

The IR is good, the android skin is not as good as sony's but it's decent. The screen is nice, the sound is good.

But I won't be buying another one.

  • Boot loop still? For someone disappointed with the g3, is the 5 any better?

    • +1

      Na. G5 = Bootlopp

  • +6

    Never going with LG again.
Made a bad move by ignoring their customer who affected by bootloop (unless if its still under the warranty)

Nearly 15,000 petition signature in change.org ,yet no replacement for those who void/run out of their warranty. Acknowledging the problem aint enough. Everyone who got their G4 G5 boot looped should be entitled for Free MainBoard replacement.
Will boycott the brand as much as I can until they offered some reimbursement (unless if its an ultimate bargain).

    • +3

200% agree with you. Boycott this company who doesn't respect customers

  • +3

It's pretty funny seeing a G5 special on here, especially considering that the regular consensus (and has been on many G5 deals) is that they are pretty shite.

  • +2

Also had bootloop issue with my G4.

Switched to S5 and now looking at the OnePlus 3T.

Pretty solid specs and reviews it seems.

    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/New-OnePlus-3T-Three-6GB-RAM-Dual-S…

Anyone had experience with OnePlus as a brand?

    • I'm still using one plus one as my 2nd phone, no issues!

    • No expandable storage and no band 28… (since your last 2 phones have them)
OnePlus is just OPPO, a Chinese company.

      • Fair call.

Being with Vodafone in Perth suburbs probably OK for band 28.

But thanks for pointing that out! In case change of Carrier.

  • +2

When I got my LG G4 I thought the boot loop problem was just another issue blown way out of proportion on the internet.

I was wrong, 1 year on and my phone is being repaired under warranty as we speak.

    Personally I would avoid g3 g4 & g5.

  • +8

My Mrs G4 has bootloop last month and now the phone is a brick! No phone has ever died on us; this is the first. I can't believe they released a newer model that still has the same issue.

    • +1

Since 2008 I never had a phone that bootloops like G4. It is the first and will be my last LG phone. This company deserves a boycott

  • Rep, I have sent you a message.

  • Harvey norman auburn had one g5 left for $399 if anyone was keen

    • O.o you sure it was a G5 and not a G4?

I saw a G4 at my Harvey Norman for around the $400 range..

      • Yep have a photo onmy phone

        • Can you link? I'm curious

        • +1

@Ughhh: dont have an online photo host
          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/70816/45963/img_2953.j…
Lol sorry just remembered i could upload a photo on here

        • @maverickjohn:

Imgur or via the Ozbargain photo host (My Account—> "files" tab above the 5 stars—> upload new file)

No offence, but I find it hard to believe, it's got to be either a return/refurb/display phone or it's a G4.

edit: just saw your link. Wow nice find, good deal. I'm tempted to buy it even though I already have one.

edit 2: Just looked a bit closer. It's out of the box, so it's not brand new any more. I would expect display phones to be significantly cheaper than brand new.

        • @Ughhh: fair enough. Im not too sure i never followed through because im not a fan of lg phones . But just thought i would share

        • @maverickjohn:

Display phone :( Good price for a used phone however.

        • Called the store, they did not know what I was talking abaut, could not find one for 396, Said that they have a display model for about 790.

        • @yeviisxc: not sure what to say the photo was taken there. Maybe just show them the photo

    • Looks like a tester phone that has had the screen turned on for the last 6months?

If physically in mint condition it still might be a bargain though :)

  • I sold my kogan G4 preemptivey, then grabbed an Aus G5 in September as I liked the G4 camera, and liked the wide / standard camera offering.
tl/dr I have never had a better phone than the G5. zero complaints.

    • Lol…I hope you didn't just jinx yourself. Trust me the bootloop hits you out of the blue when you least expect it.

  • Don't recommend it. Mine has screen burn for having an app open for longer than a few minutes.

Heaps of Whirpool comments about it also.

    • Really?
there are exacly 8 mentions of the word burn in the Whirlpool thread

and exactly zero of them refer to the G5
Most are comments on AMOLED (e.g. S7) screens being prone to burn in.

      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2486011

      • +1

        Sorry was on XDA:
        https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/help/screen-burn-t336…

What they describe is exactly what is happenin to me right now and has been since I had it.

        And a simple google search:
        https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=…

        • Sorry dude. From that thread, at least some of the issues may only be temporary, unlike AMOLED burn in.
Have you tried getting the screen replaced under warranty?

        • @pete2: No probs. Was a shame because I've been with LG since the G1. Went G1, G3, G4, now G5. Love the UI and features but now my G4 (bootloop) and my G5 (screenburn) is making me consider if I'll ever get a LG again.

That being said the G5 has a 24 month warranty if bought in AU.

        • @pete2: And I will later on, I'm going to push for a refund instead from Harvey Norman and get a new phone. Can't be without one due to work.

        • +1

@apptrack: LG Au warranty is actually good. I have had good experience getting a G2 fixed in the Silverwater service center, fixed within hours. Good luck with it.

        • +2

@pete2: I live remote so will have to ship it somewhere :(. Spent $1100 cries on the G5 at Harvey Norman..

        • @apptrack: ouch. go for the refund.

        • +1

          @pete2: That's the plan. Might get a Blackberry DTEK60.

  • +1

anyone have any luck getting their bootloop fixed out of warranty? my g4 just got it after 12 1/2 months and elglobal and lg wont fix it for free… not sure if its worthwhile exploring a "paid" fix (seems like a joke considering the widespread issue)..

    • +1

I had the same issue. If you want to get your data off, heat the phone indirectly with a hair dryer on medium heat while plugged into the computer. The circuits heat up and connect properly.

      • Thanks mate - good to know…

    • +2

LG were hopeless to deal with, they told me to contact the ebaystore seller.
Was surprised ebaystore arranged everything, albeit took 4 weeks and had to buy a new phone anyway given I couldn't be without a phone for a month.
      Phone was 14 months old.

      • +1

Yea mine was sent to Taiwan and back. Took a month… In that time I bought a G5 from a local seller so I had AU warranty, which was lucky as I am having issues now.

      • Thats lucky.. eglobal arent offering sh*t but that they will look at it as "goodwill" and then charge for the repair.. joke.. never again for me

    • +2

They'll charge you $250 to replace the motherboard on the G4. Better off just buying another phone that won't brick after a few months of normal use.

      • Is that the standard cost for a motherboard replacement from LG aus when outside of warranty?

        • Yes. It's not standard for 100% of a flagship phone to brick within 2 years.

        • @Protato:

As it's a fairly widespread issue I'd imagine there'd be a case under ACL to have it fixed at no charge outside the 2 year period (inherent defect)?

    • +1

In my case LG Australia and eglobal refused to even acknowledge this issue existed. Lesson learned.

      • Hi Hoobi

Sorry to hear your issue with LG Australia and eglobal, Mobileciti don't seller grey importer any product you have purchase from us will cover by manufacturer's warranty unless been physical damaged.

any issue please contact [email protected] or PM.

        • +2

As I said LG Australia refused to acknowledge ANY issue existed with the G4. Also said it would take 6 weeks to look at the "issue" with no indication of the time it would take to fix the phone.

The fact that it is local stock becomes somewhat irrelevant if LG provides a pathetic warranty service.

Just my experience anyway. Ultimately it is up to the individual to decided if they want to spend $588 on something that might turn into a brick in a few months time.

  • +3

Will never buy another LG phone ever again. 2 LG G3 both bootlooped + 1 had to have camera replaced. Side note: Eglobal were awesome in regards to refunding the repair fee within warranty period.

  • +2

Pretty decent price for included bootloop out of the box.

  • +2

Just had my second LG G4 bootloop on me, and the HK seller won't replace because it's out of warranty. So if you are going to take the risk with LG G5, definitely buy local.

For me, just became a sheep and bought an S7. Great phone.

  • Been using G5 for the past 6months everything is great but poor battery life. I got a spare battery which i have to insert and withdraw everytime.

  • +2

G5 also suffers from bootloop.. goodluck!

  • +2

I feel quite sad for LG because the G2 was a beast and then they went downhill from there. The Bootloop isn't really the major issue it's how LG handled the situation that is the bigger problem - it left everyone with a bad taste.

I mean Galaxy had exploding phones and yet people will still buy the note8 because samsung handled the issue correctly.

I had a HTC10 and it died on me so Im getting a S7 now but the G5 was never on my list and ONLY because of bootloop nothing else, I just don't want to deal with that again.

I understand phones have faults but from what I've read online and witnessed firt hand the bootloop issue effects ALL LG G4 nobody is safe - LG should have recalled the whole lot.

  • +1

Wouldn't touch a LG again. My G4 got bricked by the bootloop issue (google it). LG Australia refused to even knowledge there was an issue. This was a pity becasue I actually thought the G4 was a reasonable phone while it worked but my experience with LG Australia left a very bad taste. Went with a S7 for a replacement. At least Samsung acknowledges their issues and fixes it.

EDIT: LG G5 Also has bootloop issues! Would stay far away as possible unless you plan on not having a phone for several weeks while your phone motherboard gets replaced.

  • Yeah my G4 never bootlooped. After about 16 months I'm confident it won't. But I'm sure someone will tell me it will here. Even the Nexus 5X bootloops. Damn lg

  • My wife and I have Lg G3 phones and they get wirelessly charged on a each night at our bedside tables. Never need to plug in a charger. The phones are awesome, we have never had any problems with these after 2 years of service. Previously had the Lg G2 and that was also fantastic until the screen smashed.

  • Any bootloops on G5? If so I will stay away. G4 burnt me BADLY.

    Never trust LG again.

I had my replacement in the 8th month but I'm sure it will happen again in another 8 months.

When that happens I will throw it in the bin

I'm sure a lot more people got burnt here

  • +9

I don’t think it is fair to neg a LG G5 deal on the basis that your LG G4 bootlooped. There is no brand which is 100% free from issues. It's unfortunate that the LG G4 did have genuine issues, but the LG G3 bootloop issue wasn’t as prevalent, and many users here have said that their G3 still working fine. There’s even reports that the Nexus 5X bootloops if you search on google, though Nexus 5X deals are still well received here and is still working fine for nearly everyone.

Searching on google for ‘LG G5 Bootloop’ results in a few results, but it seems that there isn’t any evidence to suggest G5 phones failing in mass proportions. There has been 12 LG G5 deals posted on ozbargain since April last year (6 making the front page), and I haven’t found any comments from users here experiencing bootloop with the G5 yet, only positive reviews from users praising the G5 so far. I think it’s fair to give the G5 a chance rather than shooting down every future phone in the LG G series.

Mobileciti also offers local stock for the G5, so you’ll get 2 years warranty as opposed to 1 year, and be able to deal with LG directly for warranty rather than an overseas seller (where most bought their G4s from). With its flagship specs and camera, the LG G5 is one of the better value phones out there, and with 2 years local warranty, you’re guaranteed to get it fixed if anything goes wrong.

    • +1

Yes there's. S7 does not bootloop.

Doesn't matter if G5 has two years warranty. It should be a fully working product not a product that requires warranty returns.

Past LG service has been disappointing and the replacement I received for G4 still uses the same 0503 motherboard. They didn't even replace the unit proper the casing is now blocking the infrared sensor, can't use my favourite quick remote. It took 2 months to fix. I was without phone for that long. I went out bought S7 outright. Until now still no bootloops never look back

It is a time bomb ticking away. It will be faulty again. By that time, it is out of warranty you have no choice but to throw it out or buy a new phone. There's no way I can trust this company.

A company that doesn't admit geniune issues and forgo all its customers.

      • Yes there's. S7 does not bootloop.

Wait, was that in reply to this:

There is no brand which is 100% free from issues.

Coz it's not like the S7 was trouble free…!

        • My S7 edge is trouble free. Zero issues. Very happy. And doesn't bootloop.

Doesn't overheat neither but G4 does

    • +1

Op thanks for posting the deal but not sure if I agree. I am sure the the neg votes are for the LG (not Mobiciti).

The G4 didn't have any issues either at first until all the bootloop issues started coming out. Also the fact that LG Australia failed to address or offer any solution despite widespread issues is really poor. I totally understand there is a risk of something failing but when the manufacturer takes zero responsibility then it is best to avoid them.

I appreciate there is a warranty but in my case LG said it would takes 6 weeks to "look" at the issue with no time-frame regarding how long it would take to fix. Unless the warranty includes cover for a replacement phone the LG warranty service is pathetic.

Perhaps as a seller you should feedback to LG that people are avoiding their phones because of woeful reliability and customer service..

      • Exactly
If they recognise there is an issue and offered solutions people would have stayed
LG behaves as if the bootloop issue is a user issue.
Bootloop is normally after 6 -8 eight months.
No business will agree that they are selling a dud product
If the retailers start standing against these dodgy companies they willlisten.
But that won't happen as everine in are for quick bucks and end customer is screwed

    • Hi Rep
If yoy are so confident about G5 make an offer to replace with a brand new handset same day within 2 year period.
You are almost ceratain that you don't have to give any replacement at all.

    • My LG G5 has screenburn

  • Got one for the wife 7 months ago, going strong. But the screen scratches easily (even inside the official folio case), so do recommend screen protector.

  • +1

Yes we should get away from LG
I should have learned from their 3D blueray player.LG blames every one else for their problem..
    Bootloop is a nightmare

    • This: LG blames every one else for their problem
