ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Credit Card - 60K Velocity Points + Complimentary Virgin Flights and 2 Lounge Pass $225 Annual Fee

1720

The ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card could take you across Australia with a complimentary return domestic flight with Virgin Australia each year you hold the card, when you spend $500 on eligible purchases in the first three months of approval. Plus, as an introductory offer, you could earn a bonus 60,000 Velocity Points when you spend your $500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months of approval.

Same as previous offer in November but different promo code.

Useful info from @illumination

Key info (mostly about the flight):
Must be booked 60 days prior to departure (quite a significant limitation)
Must be booked in your own name (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum)
Free flight includes East Coast cities to Perth return (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity, which includes PER-East Coast return but not vice versa) - these fares often go for $500+
Flight is on Virgin Australia and includes food/baggage
The 2 free VA lounge passes that this card comes with the free domestic flight
The flight is actually free. No taxes/surcharges need to be paid as long as there is availability
I think there is a $107 change fee just like with the Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum (but not sure how this works in relation to the 60 day minimum booking period rule)
Approximate availability can be found by looking for the same flight on VA's website and if they are selling the fare as a Saver fare, it is likely to be available for redemption
This card is the only AMEX card in the Australian market that both waives overseas transaction fees/forex fees. As an added bonus, you'll earn rewards points on these expenses (there are a few non-AMEX alternatives)
This card comes with a Visa card too. Use AMEX where it's accepted & not ridiculously surcharged to maximise points earn.

Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017 and who make $500 of net eligible purchases within three months of approval

Just got my 60k points from the last promo last week actually. Didn't even have to ring them.

    • Same. Very happy having 200k velocity points to use this year

    • so you didn't have to even call to provide a Velocity number?

I ask because I've also signed up, registered in late December and hit the $500 at the start of January, just waiting on the points and not sure whether I should call to give them a Velocity number or they'll figure it out based on name, DOB etc.

      • I linked mine to auto-redeem points to my velocity account so that would be how mine happened. It does take a couple of months though from the point you hit the $500 spend.

      • Nope. Was the 60k offer even still going in December? I had thought it was just november only.. I've heard some rang them to provide velocity number but others just had the points added to their account. They must match names or something

        • i applied in november and racked up the $500 spending in the first week of having the cards…. still haven't got my points or lounge passes. it does say within 3mo and it hasn't been 3mo yet??

        • +1

@dannnnn: Hmm, you might want to ring up about the points. I'm pretty sure you have to request the lounge passes yourself though, if i recall correctly. You just ring up and they send them out.

        • @happychild100: Correct, you have to call and request the lounge passes

        • points just came through yesterday! Seemed to match around the time I got my first bill after hitting the $500, so perhaps that's how it's done. As BeRad said I just linked auto-redeem to my velocity account in case that would help.

    • same. I initially called and gave anz my velocity number, and requested my 2 lounge passes aswell, which I sold within a day for $50 each- dont need them as Im an Etihad Gold and Velocity Plat.

      • Gumtree?

        • +1

no fb. I offered them in a FF group when a member asked for them. They needed 2 extra.

  • Yay been hoping this would come back!

  • I have have applied the same card couple of months ago but didn't get lounge pass ?

    • +1

you'll need to call the concierge service to request the lounge pass (if you are entitled to it).

      • called the concierge, she told me to just rock up to the lounge. is that true?

        • what phone number did you call ?

        • +1

Check your Velocity account, it should show your lounge passes in there and you just use your card.

        • @Charleston: I logged in my velocity account … Still can't find them…

        • @dumkaze:

Then i'd definitely be back on the phone! Someones buggered up

        • This is true - the passes are linked to your card automatically(or should be). You can see them in your online portal

        • +2

the lounge passes were mailed to me, but that was about 2 months ago

  • +1

What are the eligible purchases for the 60k points?

    • +1

dont know exactly, but its basically anything you'd use the cards for

      • +1

Oh cool. Was thinking it might be qantas/Virgin specific like some points triggering with Amex. Thnaks

        • +1

Nah you're fine, couple of big nights out got mine in a couple weeks haha

    • Usually only few things are excepted like cash advances, gambling and sometimes payments to the ATO.
Any "normal" transactions count towards this.

  • Can you sell/transfer the lounge passes? 60,000 is ok as for 78000 you can fly business class Bangkok to Syd plus $61 code share Sing Air (A380)

    • +2

Can you sell/transfer the lounge passes?

Yes. They come in the post as two pop-out unnamed and unmarked passes. I used two last week and the lounge entry lady didn't even ask my name just took the passes and let us in.

      • Do the physical entry passes have an expiry date?

        • +2

Yes. It's printed on the passes. The date they post it + 1 year

      • +1

Well done! That's another strong selling point!

        • +1

          I agree!

      • Ummm are you 100% sure?

My assumption is that you're getting this mixed up with the Qantas lounge. I've never seen printed Virgin passes before.

        • This was my assumption too but things can change right? PBG seems pretty confident, like they're talking from personal experience.

        • +7

Well I can tell you my experience:

In October I signed up for the 40k points deal. I made the qualifying spend on the first day I received the cards. The welcome pack said to call ANZ and request the Virgin Australia lounge passes once the qualifying spend was achieved. 2 days later I called ANZ for the lounge passes, they said they would be in the mail by the end of that day. I also asked about how the 40K VFF points would be allocated to me since ANZ don't even know my VFF number. They put me through to an ANZ Rewards Consultant who took my VFF number and said it was now attached to my account and the VFF points would come within 12 weeks of the qualifying spend. About two days later my Virgin Australia lounge passes arrived in the post. Two plasticky cards (sort of like very thin credit cards) which were marked single use entry passes to any Virgin Australia lounge.

5 days ago I flew Virgin, Syd to per and at the Sydney gate I used both passes to let my family of four (under 18's get in with accompanying adult) into the Sydney Virgin Australia lounge before the flight.

At the same time my wife applied for her own ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card and the same physical lounge passes were posted to her also.

Sorry for the wall of text… on holidays! :)

        • +2

Definately printed VA passes!! I got 2 in the mail.

  • +1

    What is 60K roughly = to ?

    • +5

$600 cash if you sell on classified section of OzB.

  • +1

The new Citibank or 28 Degrees?

4.ANZ will waive the overseas transaction fee on foreign currency transactions and transactions where the merchant or financial institution accepting the card is located outside Australia. ANZ will also waive the cash advance fee if you use your ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account to withdraw actual cash from a branch or ATM located overseas. A cash advance fee will apply to any other cash advances on your account. ATM operator fees may apply.

    • +1

Not as convenient as Citibank but this does work well.

I loaded my CC up into credit and used it to withdraw cash, fee-free, at international ATMs while on holiday.

      • +1

Remember that if you lose your credit card whilst overseas (or here for that matter), any "credit" you have added above your credit limit will not be covered by the card issuer in the case your card is stolen and used fraudulently.

    • Nah, Coles Mastercard offer this with only $89 annual fee.

      • They don't offer a free flight though which is well worth the $136 for some.

        • Free flight Brisbane to Perth can be over $500. Wasn't even planning to go to Perth before this deal but we're gonna go just for the value.

    • +3

Is this just the transaction fee? Citibank/28 Degrees also waive the currency conversion fees.

    • Actually, this seems better than the 28Degrees.

According to the product PDS your card doesn't have to be in positive balance to get the cash advance fee waived if you withdraw from overseas ATMS.
Page 13 on Fees and Charges

If the account (based on transactions processed by ANZ) is in
credit balance at the time we process the cash advance, the
credit amount will offset the amount of the cash advance in
the calculation of the 2% fee.

The cash advance fee will be waived if you use your credit
card account to obtain actual cash from a branch or ATM
located in a country outside Australia.

      • Yea but the 28 Degrees was never (at least imo) the card for that. That's always been Citibank Plus, for which this is really the same.

        • True!, except Citibank plus is a debit card, whereas in this card the money comes from a credit account ;)

So I'm thinking that I might be able to replace my travel combo of CitiPlus+Bankwest Platinum by just one card.

        • @FirstWizard: There are other problems with that.

You may not be charged cash advance fees but you'll be charged interest immediately (as is the case anyway with cash advances).

The other issue I had with using a 28 Degrees to withdraw cash back in the day was that I realised you couldn't maximise the efficiency of using a credit card. What I mean is you would deliberately overpay it to put your account in credit, then withdraw money, but what if you wanted to use it as a standard credit card and then withdraw cash? Couldn't do that!!

This is primarily why I never saw 28 Degrees as a card to withdraw money (from then on) and I didn't care when they implemented ATM withdrawal fees.

        • +1

          @illumination:

Gotcha! Thanks for that. I overlooked the immediate interest part.

  • Great card, I regret signing up when it first came out and missing out on this deal.

  • +2

Strongly considering the card just for the flight now that Amex no longer offer them.

      • Awesome…thanks for that. Had a look the other week and I was sure it was also travel credit. Must have looked at the wrong card…likely the American Express Explorer with $400 credit.

        • +1

There are two cards with Travel Credit: Platinum Edge & Velocity Platinum

The card Charleston linked to I believe is the only remaining AMEX AMEX card that includes a Virgin Australia return domestic flight.

And as chriise said, there's 80k bonus points with a referral (50k without).

      • if you have a referral i think it's 80k velocity points

      • The Amex flight redemptions aren't as good though. This card gives SYD-PER return for example, while the Amex one only flies SYD-BNE, ADL, CBR, MEL from memory.

        • That is correct but pros and cons with both.

E.g. ANZ you can only book in the name of the cardholder, and (probably more significantly) you have to book for travel 60 days in advance. Domestic travel is generally more sporadic by nature. Not to say this can't work for you!

    • +1

It's a pretty new card, I highly doubt they'll take way the flight - it's the major selling point of the card.

I've been using mine for ~5 months now and I love it. The point earn isn't great, but all of the other perks are very useful. And yes, it does give you access to the juicy AMEX deals.

      • Really? I thought all the best Amex stuff was targeted at Amex issue cards. How do you get around it? I havent found a way

        • Wait for a forum ninja…

        • There's a standard AMEX connect offers that's open to all AMEX cards (as far as I know) and targeted (I believe) offers that require you to have AMEX's credit account website, obviously since the account is with ANZ you don't have one for AMEX.

  • +2

Looking at cancelling my ANZ Rewards black as the first year being free and will charge me about $400 in 2 months time when the first year is over.

Might sign up for this as the only thing that the ANZ Rewards has over this seems to be the veloce lounge access?

    • rewards black amex has 3 reward points per $ spend

this one amex is 2 reward points per $ spend

      • Yep, I end up just transferring those points to my virgin frequent flyer anyways so this card seems better in my case.

      • +3

I don't even bother with the points per spend, as the points I receive in any given month are pale in comparison to there bonus points received for churning. Get in and out!

      • Is 1 pt per $1 extra worth $175 more though? I guess that's the question.

        • Certainly not when you factor in the 60k bonus points, unless that is you're spending more than 60k p.a. on the card…

    • Is lounge access worth leaving this card?

    • I just cancelled mine, but they offered to cut my fee by 50% for the next year - still a great saving for a great card

  • +1

I have ANZ Rewards Black now, Am I still eligible for these 60K Velocity Points ?

    • +2

yes, this is a different card

      • good to know

    • Serious? I thought I'd have to canceleave mine to get this.

      • +2

nah I own both of them :)

    • Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017 and who make $500 of net eligible purchases within three months of approval. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card within the previous 12 months. This offer applies only once per eligible customer. The bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points will be credited to your Velocity account within two months of the eligible spend criteria being met. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card account before the introductory bonus Velocity Points are processed to your Velocity account, you may become ineligible for these bonus Velocity Points. ANZ will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting from a delay in the process of receiving and/or approving an application or activating the card. Eligible purchases are those described in the ANZ Rewards – Rewards Program terms and conditions booklet as eligible to earn Reward Points - for example interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance, transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases. You must be a Velocity member to receive bonus Velocity Points. Velocity membership and Velocity Points earn and redemption are subject to the Velocity Member Terms and Conditions as amended from time to time, available at velocityfrequentflyer.com. Membership of Velocity is the cardholder's responsibility.

      • Really surprised the T&C mean you can have a different ANZ card and still earn the 60k points.

        Not that I'm complaining.

        • I read it differently:

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card within the previous 12 months

        • +2

          @MoMoney:

          which means you can't either:

          1) obtain this card by transferring from another ANZ credit card

          OR

          2) have had an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card within the previous 12 months

        • @Love a bargain: You can still get the card, you just don't get the bonus Velocity points on sign up.

        • @MoMoney:

But what if I KEEP my current ANZ card?

          Is that a transfer?

        • @MoMoney:

Can't see how you came to that conclusion.

It simply says you won't get the bonus points if you either transfer from another ANZ card or have had the same card in the last 12 months. (ie. You're still eligible for the bonus points if you have another & you're keeping it as long as you haven't had the same card in the last 12 months)

My comment was only about the eligibility of the bonus points, not the card.

          @Shadowsfury:

I think you read it correctly

        • @Love a bargain:

          Confirmation:

I have current ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum cards, phoned up and asked about transferring and can confirm you do not get the bonus points upon transfer, only new applications.

I simply applied for an additional card via online forms which was approved - now I have two sets, so the old Freq Flyer is getting retired along with my QFF account..

        • @Love a bargain: I came to that conclusion as I was under the assumption that @Shadowsfury was moving from the Rewards Black to the Rewards Travel Adventures card, as many other people have stated that they are doing. However, there is always a way to get around that; as many banks offer discounted annual fees, and even lump sums of points to stay with you card when you ring up to cancel (AMEX are especially good at this).

As @Shadowsfury is keeping the original card; this doesn't apply, and will get the points as confirmed by @highground below. It's always better to check with the bank directly than speculate, and be disappointing when the banks don't follow through on a technicality.

        • @MoMoney:

Yeah I'll still call them myself before applying to confirm again (and have something on record if I need to). Will apply closer to expiry of the deal as I only got my ANZ Qantas Platinum early this month.

And then once I get my points from both offers get rid of the Qantas one.

        • +1

I had the Black Rewards card and signed up for the Travel Adventures card when there was the 40k bonus points deal. I didn't transfer the card, nor was I an existing applicant, nor did I have a Travel Adventures card in the past 12 months. They are now trying to argue that I had a similar product, so I don't get the 40k points. I've escalated it and am waiting a reply. I've have certainly met their T&Cs, and it just seems like another case of one section of ANZ not knowing what another section is doing. At first they couldn't even find the T&Cs for the 40k deal.

        • @puffinfresh: interested to hear outcome of that. Just got my card in the mail yesterday. I kept a copy of the 60K bonus points page and terms/conditions.

        • @puffinfresh: I'm going through the same thing at the moment. I put an official complain in and if I don't hear back today I will go to the Ombudsman. Keep us posted how you go!

        • +1

@elliebargain: The person I spoke to just called to ask for my Velocity number. She didn't mention if it was being approved or not, and I didn't ask, but I can't see why else they would be asking for the number. Then again, it is ANZ, so who knows. It's not like I haven't given the number to them 6 times already.

        • +1

@puffinfresh: I feel you! I got a call yesterday and again today telling me the reason I didn't get the points is I didn't give anyone my number (despite giving it to them many times over the last few months!). So I gave them my number. Again :D

We can only hope that every person that asked for our velocity number ends up giving us the points. That would be cool.

        • +1

@elliebargain: I just got a call to say it has been sorted and I'll get my points by the end of the week. Time will tell.

        • @puffinfresh: Oooh good luck! I've been told the next statement cycle.

        • I just got an SMS saying my points are waiting to be credited, and to call them to provide my Velocity number… for the 7th time.

Edit: It was an automated SMS. They have my number.

        • @puffinfresh:
          Lucky number 7?

        • @Shadowsfury: Still no points. Currently on the phone being bounced around to different departments.

        • @puffinfresh:

          8 is still considered lucky.

I might ring them now actually, to give velocity number but also to get them to send me my lounge passes (so I can then sell them - already have status with Velocity anyway so get lounge access)

        • @Shadowsfury: Just letting you guys know, after making an official complaint with them, I finally got my 40K points a couple of days ago (applied for the deal before this one - in early October) If you aren't having any luck - definitely ask to make an official complaint with a receipt number. :)

        • +1

          @elliebargain:

          Noted, thanks

        • +1

@elliebargain: I finally got the points! I called yesterday because they didn't call me on Mon/Tues like they said they would. I was told the request was sent to Velocity on the 23rd and can take up to 2 weeks. So 4 months after meeting the criteria, and after a ridiculous amount of phone calls, I finally have the points.
