Love the way I was looking at a product and the price jacked up by $50 (10%) when the deal became active…

I sort of understand but it still pisses me off. :-(

    • +1

When a sale is not a sale? When eBay runs them.

      • Apart from the 10%/15% site-wide sales.

        • Whoops forgot about those ones. Even then if your not quick the price gets jacked.

        • @jlogic:
Well we're all professionals here aren't we ;)

I'm shopping for a computer myself, here are a few parts that I could find cheaper on Ebay with the 20% coupon.

    1) Kingston HyperX Fury HX426C15FBK2/16 - $126.4 delivered vs $179 at PCCG. ($52.6 cheaper)
    2) Gigabyte Z170N-WIFI Mini-ITX - $183.2 delivered vs $199 at PCCG. ($15.8 cheaper)

Handy for those who don't live in a capital city and need to get stuff delivered.

  • darkknightwayno - It happened with me to, as in, I got that message.

I think that item/price can't have the discount applied.

You'll probably find (like I did) that, if you go to the shop and refresh the page, that the price has increased.

      Dodgy Bastards!
I am on live chat now… Stupid Operator has no clue of the Sale and is going to do a manual credit for 20% on the $59.95… They are allowing for the $66.90 memory card to have 20% but not the $59.95 even though the listing says Use CSUNNY20 to get 20% off

      ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!!

      • +1

I assume that ebay carries about half of the discount, hence they jack the prices a bit. So I was looking at an 8Tb drive at $499, but couldn't use the code. When I went back in, the price was $549, but the code worked. (That was PC.Byte) FUTU Online - have for $525 (don't know if this changed, and the code worked, so still got it for $420 delivered.

  • +11

they have hiked the prices to get back to the original prices after discount applied! scam

    • +5

If you have evidence of this, please report to ACCC
See here for Kogan getting rekt

      • +5

Yep these stores should be getting fined as well.

      • +1

        Here's a great example

$507.99 before the sale, $607 after. These practices are a complete joke.

        • Good research but 19th of Dec is 3 weeks ago.
You'd need to have a screenshot just before the sale starts and after to get these guys rekt by ACCC.

        • +1

          @cwongtech:

I guess that's how they get around it, I found a screenshot from the 19th of Dec on their ebay and it was $507, then they promptly removed it until now. Same as their website, cached on the 21st for $497 and now up to $597 lol.

  • It said code will be active by 10 AEST. worked for me at 0945 AM AEST

    • Sure you're not forgetting daylight savings? Only QLD is on AEST, NSW and VIC are on ADST.

Edit: scratch that, OzBargain told me you posted at 10:48am. Ozbargain must think I'm in NSW. Now that I'm logged in, is says "4 hours 20 minutes ago" (now 2:08pm QLD time), so obviously you posted prior to 10am AEST.

  • Has anyone purchased any of the "BIO" branded air conditioners before?
There are 3 from the seller "mytopiastore" I'm looking at. They have a higher KW rating per dollar but I'm worried they are overrated.

  • +12

Sheesh scam sale… I was looking at a few things this morning and now price has been jacked up.

    • should of negged then

      • Wishful thinking on my part when I + this deal before checking the items again.

  • Can anyone recommend a solid, low volume SSD (preferably 120GB)?

    • +1

      Samsung Evo 850 120GB.

      • Who sells it? I couldn't find any, I think it was discontinued.

        • Possibly discontinued or no one has stock. But if you're after a reliable ssd, that'd be the one to get if you're willing to pay a bit extra compared to Crucial or SanDisk.

        • @Trishool: Oh, OK, thanks, that's the one I currently have, but I wanted to get one for my laptop. I'll probably settle for the EVO 750 120GB.

  • Any power bank deal?

  • Any deals on Raspberry Pi's?

  • Just bought the OG 500gb PS4 for $295 thanks Sones. Only one left.

    • Doesn't seem like a good price for the original PS4. Any reason why you wanted that one?

      • Because the slim is retailing for over $400 at the moment. Was bummed I missed out on the Christmas period deals.

  • Any thoughts on this?

I'm looking for a pressure washer and this doesnt look too bad - havent really heard of the brand though, so I'm contemplating. Anyone bought these before?

  • +1

I'm surprised that people are still surprised that price jacking occurs. Good business tactic to get more sales with minimal loss of profit.

    • Aaand 1 person doesn't understand business ^ Can we bring it to 2? Would love to have the most negged comment this month. Won't happen though :'(

    • +3

I'm amazed that people don't realise that eBay isn't forking out for the full 20%, that retailers do actually have to pay part of that. So yeah, fair enough that price jacking happens if they don't have the additional 10% or so in their price margins.

Retailers are actually left powerless over it, though I'm guessing/assuming they can opt in/out of these sales. So sure, their may be a bit of bad press on here about it, but the average Joe will happily purchase during these sales.

People should focus on the final price, and compare that one to market price. That's the main figure, what you're paying after discount.

  • Dear Ozbargainers, is the Archer c9 still the best value router under $200? (I have a Telstra cable modem)
    Many thanks!!

    • +2

Best router I ever owned personally. My opinion is only that though. I am using the Archer D9.

  • Need (want) to get a GTX1080 because my current GPU is struggling with 4k gaming.
Do you guys reckon that it's a good time to get one, or should I wait for the 1080ti announcement, given that the 1080ti is supposedly a class above the 1080 anyway?

    • +1

Would wait… if you can wait that is.

      • +4

Sorry, had to scratch my itch. Picked up the last ROG 1080 Strix from PC Byte for $888 express shipped.

Is there a way to block future 1080 deals from my ozbargain feed so that I'm protected from buyer's remorse?

        • Lucky all the ones I saw were jacked to over $1000

    • +1

Wait for the 1080ti, even if you think the cost may not be worth it, the 1080s price will drop considerably.

Looking to get the Sony Alpha a6300, comes down to $1,360 with a lens. Is it safe to get it from Shopping Square? Looks like it might be overseas stock but price is very tempting.

  • anyone with experience purchasing the Seconds TV units off Sony Store before?
They seem to be priced as the same as a brand new unit when they were part of the boxing day sales.

So effectively 20% off new for a seconds or refurbished unit

Can anyone advise the difference between the Galaxy S7 edge G935FD and G9350. Tried googling but can't figure it out, both seem to support dual sim.

  • Still can not see any Dyson V8s :(

  • +3

Ended up snagging a GTX 1070,Futu has them all priced the same, so I opted for the ASUS STRIX for $583 delivered, not bad, thanks for the deal. :)

    • Likewise. Grabbed a 1070 Strix OC for $599 delivered. Not a jaw dropping deal but about $95 cheaper than any other Australian store at the moment once you add delivery. Thanks OP!

    Was Ted's was in there.

  • ebay's New Year's resolution 20% off = price jacked up, can't find branded items either removed or not listed.
You can only hope merchants make a mistake not removing their normal listings (or raising prices) before the sale begins…

  • +1

Here's definitely the scoop of the day!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Palm-Centro-QWERTY-GSM-Quadband-C…

Should come down to a cool $20 with that coupon!

    • wont work next year

      • +2

Already dead, it was turned off on 1st Dec. (Telstra)

  • So annoying.. found a fitbit charge 2 for a decent price, keep getting the "We removed any vouchers you already applied. You can try using them on a future purchase." (discount is obv not applied) Using CSITE20 or CSUNNY20. What a waste of time.

  • +2

Oooh.. I just read the fine print - voucher CSUNNY20 only works if PayPal and eBay account email addresses are the same. Mine are different. Once I switched the coupon code worked.

  • +2

How funny. Sony Australia doesn't sell any PS4's :/

  • Ended up almost buying my whole PC build cause it was just so much cheaper than the alternatives (free shipping is a massive bonus)

Apart from the i5 7600k being bumped up to the point where the sale is exactly the same as everywhere else, the other parts were actually priced pretty decently. Add in the 20% and free shipping and yeah, saved at least $100 from my build with Mwave for better parts.

I still think it's wrong to jack the prices up though but meh.

    • what did you get and end up paying if you dont me asking?

      • +1

Don't mind at all, I ended up getting the following:

        i5 7600k
        ASUS ROG z270H
        16gb Kingston HyperX ddr4
        EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2
        Windows 10 USB

Cost me roughly $987~ delivered which was $100 cheaper than buying from Mwave with a cheaper motherboard. I live in NSW btw so PCCG was a bit more.

Oh and I sourced out some second hand gear for the rest of my build. :)

  • Was hoping for bigger discounts on the GTX 1070

    • $484 for an EVGA SC 1070 is pretty decent…I mean they are the latest gen cards, can't expect them to drop too much too quickly.

      • LINK? cause it seems all gtx 1070's are $729 which is $583.2

          Pretty sure that's it

[edit] I may have made a mistake or my coupon ran out. My bad if so.

        • @Perz: We removed any vouchers you already applied. You can try using them on a future purchase.

          Code doesn't work for them.

        • @Axelstrife:
Ah damn, yeah, not sure why it popped up as I was using the link. Probably clicked out of it.

          My bad.

        • @Perz: I was ready to buy it at that price lol

  • Are there any good deals on fridge or washing machines?

    • Can't see many appliances at all. A few bits and pieces at Grays. I'm after a heat pump dryer. Looks like good guys didn't want to be a part of it again!

  • Im after SD card. What good deals we have at the moment?

More price jacking was $729 earlier and now $749

  • For anyone looking for a great Powerline Ethernet over Power Adapter.

    TP-Link TL-PA9020P KIT AV2000 $140

    • Have you got one? I'm trying to get steamlink up and running and deciding between an ac1900 adapter for my PC or powerline to the steamlink.
Both options are quite pricey though!

All Catch Of The Day prices valid ~4pm Melbourne time (9th Jan, 2017). First price is Ebay before so-called 20% 'discount'. Bold price is Catch Of The Day website.

$4.99 Belkin Car MicroCharger w/ ChargeSync Cable - Black
$2.99 Belkin Car MicroCharger w/ ChargeSync Cable - Black
    $29.99 Puma Men's Expedite Shoe - Asphalt/Black
    $20.99 Puma Men's Expedite Shoe - Asphalt/Black
    $39.99 Puma Men's Axis v4 SL Shoe - Black/Drizzle
    $23.99 Puma Men's Axis v4 SL Shoe - Black/Drizzle

I can literally go on and on and on through countless products and see higher prices being paid in this 'sale' than on their website. Try it yourself. It's not hard.

Code for this sale should be "4MUPPETS". Even after 20% discount, unless you are financially-challenged, you know you're paying more in this lovely ebay 'sale' than on the CatchOfTheDay website.

FraudOfTheDay. No harm done. Just some muppets rounded up (again)…

    • Code for this sale should be "4MUPPETS". Even after 20% discount, unless you are financially-challenged, you know you're paying more in this lovely ebay 'sale' than on the CatchOfTheDay website.

Now now, that's only CatchOfTheDay. We all know it's the online reject shop.
And that's been the case in the past.. their ebay sales usually are more expensive than their own website.

      You mean not a professional?

    • Grew up watching the Muppets, Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy etc- quite liked them. I have no idea how this became a British slang word for "fool".
      Poms are strange.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331314565009

    • it was either this or the x34 for $1300 after discount….. went with the x34. its my bday on friday, why not

A lot of the items i am interested in have been removed from Harvey Norman. Not really a sale for me.

    • Gerry listed himself for sale, didn't he?

These ebay sales are getting more and more frequent, and worse and worse

Have been looking at getting an Asus AC68 adapter for a while. $10 price hike and after discount still $8 more expensive than MSY at PC byte.

    What a joke.

  • I know terms say must have PayPal account but does anyone know if you can pay balance with gift cards as payment?
