I'd love to score some overseas flights for around$250 return from Sydney in early Jan, just so I can explore for a few days and claim TRS on some gadgets.
I have never been to bali. Is it a good and safe place for a couple? Like previously i heard alot about scams and theft issues.
You need to be a bit careful in Kuta. Avoid moneychangers who give to-good-to-be-true rates. Use banks or busy, regular ones. Otherwise it's fine. Probably just as safe as a big Aussie city centre at night.
Honestly it is not great. It has some nice parts if you travel to islands like Lombok, and Ubud is good if you or your gf are into yoga and art. But Seminyak and Kuta etc are too busy for me, you will be offered drugs everywhere you go even just trying to enter the convenience store. Loads of scams to watch out for. It is dirty and you have to watch your step in the streets because there are holes and various obstacles right in the middle of the footpath. Most people go just for cheap booze, good food, average beaches and to live it up in resorts. Its OK if that is your thing and I might go back one day given how cheap the airfares can be now, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Much rather go to Vietnam or Cambodia.
didn't some kid get caught with a bag of paracetamol?
"Paracetamol"
Drugs became paracetamol after a call from Australian embassy.
Vietnam and Cambodia are much worse, apart from the hords of Aussies that import their drug problems from Australia.
Bali is great if you avoid the Kuta/Seminyak/Legian strip and Denpasar, the big city/capital of the island.
It's great, worth it alone for the culture shock. ^^ Those who expect first world maintenance and infrastructure might have to polish their shoes at the end of the day but it's a fantastic place and a real adventure.
Stay in Australia if you want that. Don't expect perfection on a shoestring budget. Amazing value if you are open-minded.
it really depends what you want to do,
if you are looking for just about the cheapest and closest overseas holiday where you go for sun, booze, and a little bit of sight seeing its great.
if you want a full cultural experience, id say not (assuming you are a tourist)
Kuta is quite bogan, I ve been to bali maybe 6 times now, and I still enjoy Kuta, just walking around, and hell I barely drink, I go to jimbaran, seminyak, changu, ubud, sanur, uluwatu, legian, kerobokan depending on my mood
ive yet to try the islands though. I also dont sit around and laze by the pool either
Just one of the most corrupt places
The $60 part is probably a mistake and they'll cancel it and you'll have to pay, maybe $250 for a replacement. A $260 bargain will become a $450 holiday you never really wanted :(
Booked DPS-MEL one way on the $60 fare. Will post back if it gets cancelled or confirmed.
So after 30 minutes I received a Minor Delay email. Cancelled the booking and then managed to book it for $4 cheaper direct through Jetstar. Waiting for the money to go back on my card but received Jetstar confirmation immediately.
How did you book? Call the sales staff?
It's available just by searching on the JQ website.
Just wanted to thank you for this post. Although I didnt book with this link it gave me the dates which I later booked. It was basically reposted later.
Seems to be $199 one-way via Jetstar's site and then $61.99 via a site called Kiwi.com. Never heard of that site.
