Sorry Nigel would rather the 50S10A for 999 from DSE

  • I just noticed that the price has moved on these models since we sold out last… OK will let the powers that be know… Cheers…

  • +1

too expensive for a 42" plasma.

    • I think the TH-P42U20 FULL HD the same size is around $1200+ with TH-P42X20 only HD at $999+

Another rep that should have done that little bit of research first

    • Kick…. Don't shoot the messenger!

    http://search.dse.com.au/search?w=42G10A&sessionid=4c22aca20…

Can pick it up at my local DSE, Nunawading, for $887.

    • Out of Stock - This item is unavailable for online shopping. That is OK if you live in Nunawading or want to pick it up!

      • -1

Your price is not a bargain! For the $112 difference I am sure most people would drive a few km to pick it up or indeed arrange delivery at the DSE store for less than the $112.

They are also available at the following stores -

New South Wales / Capital Territory
Armidale DSE, Ashfield, Bankstown Dick Smith, Blacktown Dick Smith, Canberra Centre Dick Smith, Chatswood Chase, Erina Dick Smith, Lidcombe Dick Smith, Macarthur Square Dick Smith, Macquarie Centre Dick Smith, North Parramatta Dick Smith, Penrith Mulgoa Road DSL, Sydney CBD Dick Smith, Warringah Mall Dick Smith, Woden Dick Smith

        • And if you live outside of these areas?

          • -1

@nigel.price.webmaster: I'm not sure why you are arguing the point!? You admitted yourself, "I just noticed that the price has moved on these models since we sold out last… OK will let the powers that be know… Cheers…"

            • @carlenet: $112(cost difference) - $60(standard delivery charge for DSE) = $52

Now if this 42G10A was priced at $947 or less ($999-$52), then that would seem more sensible.

@nigel.price.webmaster: Whats your point here Nigel? Those places cover all major captial cities and some rural towns as well so the coverage would be as expected of an average retailer.

Are you therefore appealing to the people who live in Mudderaba (love the ad)who are in the middle of nowhere, with no DSE and because you have free delivery its a bargain for them? Seriously your attitude on this has been far from "rep like".

Have an appreciation that people on Ozbargain do a lot of research, can sniff a bargain (or a lemon) and will comment/vote accordingly. Either come back with the comments from the "powers that be" and stop this drivel posting of "Opps out of stock" or "its OK if you live in the area and can pick it up".

You're doing more harm than good for bigbrownbox right now…

            • @Ndiddy: Ok, if you live in Perth we will offer you free delivery on that price!

  • Okay negging this as its not a good deal compared and the rep doesnt get what a bargain is, we have to prove to him as oppose to the reverse.

    • Well ok then! LOL, while the price is being "looked into" why don't you show others where they can buy this TV online for this price!" Can I see your research? It will help me build a case for a better price! You understand, don't you!

      • Make it $600

Hmm no i think this is more interesting than me providing a price link

        http://www.cnet.com.au/panasonic-plasma-brightness-problem-w…

        • I will forward this onto Panasonic (sure they know about it already, see what they say)… Thanks…

        • Sold out; Oops… This product is no longer available at Dick Smith Online. $500 ill buy it

  • +1

pretty sure most buyers from Ozbargain will walk into a HN or JB and bargain a deal on the 50" Pana for $999 rather than pay the same for 8" less. I think we can all agree an 8" makes the difference ;)

      For my girlfriend yes

you are comparing 2 different models of Panasonic Plasma, the S10 series and the G10 series.
This is from the panasonic site, describing the 2 models. with the G10 being the more expensive one.

    G10 Series Full HD
Panasonic's VIERA G10 Series also features a Neo Full HD Plasma display, incorporating 600HZ Sub Field Drive and 2,000,000+:1 dynamic contrast ratio for outstanding fast-moving images and improved brightness. This Series features design improvements such as an AR Filter and swivel stand. As with all 2009 VIERA models it includes intelligent connectivity features such as VIERA Image Viewer and enhanced VIERA Link for improved convenience and ease of use.

    S10 Series Full HD
The VIERA S10 Plasma Series is part of the new Eco PDP range, and offers a broad range of sizes for consumers wanting to step up into the Full High Definition space. Key features of the S10 Series include Full-Time 1080 TV lines of motion resolution, 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 24p playback. The S10 Series also features VIERA Image Viewer with SD Card slot and AVCHD compatibility. Eco PDP technology delivers improved energy-efficiency.

    • While I am comparing models, I am also comparing 2 different sizes!!

      • if they where selling the same size (50") in the G10 model, it would be much more than $999. so even though the S10 might be a better deal, this is still cheap for a higher end model plasma. I have a 42" G10 and I paid more for it over the S10 for the better quality, but it all depends on what you want and how much you can afford.

Hmm…joined today, 2 comments made, both in this thread…smelling the air

          • @carlenet: I did join today but am not affiliated with the poster. And my comments are not about this being a good deal, just about people comparing 2 deals for different products.

  • -1

hi op, what is the energy rating on this plama tv?

    • You can make a comment but cant be bothered finding out for yourself?

      • it is easier ask this question to op directly, as he is the rep

  • +2

People, I am not convinced this isn't a good deal! I am unable to find ANY retailers with stock of this model available for sale online, the new models is CIRCA $200+ more, and we are offering free delivery. The 50S10A also is not available for purchase online either (that I could find and no one here seems to know either), and not as good! Like for like, I am convinced this price is good unless you want the hassle to go in store and pick it up or ex display stock (yes I did ring some DSE stores listed as having stock)… And no, $500 is out of the question, sorry! :) But still that said, I am doing my best to have the pencil sharpened! All in all its a great TV if you buy one, and nice to know you are all so passionate about finding deals.

    • Well that makes one, this site is about posting bargains and letting the community decide, arguing the point reflects badly on the rep.

      • Couldn't agree more Mikinoz. This post has done more harm than good for bigbrownfox as far as I'm concerned.

Don't see how it is a hassle to go into a DSE that does have stock (did you ring Nunawading, Highpoint?) and pick up the tv. By your argument I guess grocery shopping is a bit of a hassle unless you shop online and get it delivered.

        • I love your typo Ndiddy…"bigbrownfox" LOL

I do have to laugh about all of this though because it's usually the other way around with price matching. The big boys often say, oh we can't match online prices, or, have you included shipping in that price!? Never have I heard an online store, which have fewer overheads, say they can't match a physical shop fronted retailer and will only match other online retailers. Bizarre!

      • Not arguing the point at all, just engaging in conversation. And very interesting it has been indeed. BigBrownBox is a small team which works very hard to compete with the "big boys"… The great thing about forums and social sites like this is it gives EVERYONE a chance to comment.

  • 50" can get for $999 now….

  • Check out the extremely high power consumption of the 2009 model year THP42G10A (POWER HOG). When you compare against the newer 2010 models, the power consumption is close to double the replacement model the THP42U20A. Now you will find that the new model THP-42U20A has a power consumption similiar to a 42 inch LCD. If you think that power consumption does not matter, then consider the $ over a ten year period. Based on the Australian standard of 10 hours use per day, the offered deal of $999 on the THP-42G10A could easily cost you over $1000 extra electricity in excess of the new 2010 model the THP-42U20A. If you are willing to haggle you can buy the new model THP-42U10A for close to $1000. $999 for the old model THP-42G10A dinosaur - Forget about it! Please don't insult us with a phony deal of $999 for a power hog dinosaur model.

  • I'm with the neggers for the reasons mentioned above.

    • one wrong vowel and you could be in a lot of trouble!

  • You wont be able to get the 50" Full High Definition Panasonic for long. They have to model clear at this price due to the fact the 50" 'U' series sells for approx $1450 and has a bonus by redemption oh and better power rating.
The 40" 'U' series will catalogue for $999 soon I imagine and although probably a bit less contrast and connections than the 'G' still most people will not tell the difference. It is afterall still 600HZ subframe and NEO.

    • Is that $1450 the RRP of U series 50? At that rate by the time you negotiate a discount, there's not much in it.
