Great price for a 50" Full-HD Pana
Should be 1 yr warranty (Standard on all Pana)
Just beware energy consumption on this model is 430W !
Recent models would have half of that, but would cost twice as much !!It doesn't mention eligiblity for the Samsung Blue-Ray deal on the DSE site.
Anyone know better?
not in this list:
https://www.hdbonus.com.au/avatarhd/Product.aspx(and it would be a Panasonic Blu-ray, not a Sammy)
Thanks, you're right of course, Panny, Sammy, Sony, silly me…
You need to buy a Samsung TV to get the Samsung Blue-Ray deal
Just beware energy consumption on this model is 430W !
Recent models would have half of that, but would cost twice as much !!I dont think you will get a 50" Plasma drawing only around 200W
430W for a 50" plasma screen is pretty good.
I think 50" S10 gets a 2Star Energy Rating
A 50" S20 gets a 5Star Rating (about 240W), but yes it costs twice as much
430W is good mate, i went to myers last week, most of plasma use more than 500W, especially big screen.
Can we stop with this BS. 430W is good for LAST GENERATION plasmas. The new plasma screens are all using around the 200-300W mark, which is a big difference realistically.
It's a decent price, but be aware that it is an EOL model, so prices will be very negotiable around the place.
Just remember there is the samsung plasma that is $150 more, but you get a home theatre redemption!
If any of you know anyone who get the Woolworths discount at Dick Smith, I'm pretty sure that the special 10% off all online purchases has been extended to the end of June and it may also be working in store.
Good luck!
Have any more info?
I'm a woolworths employee and I didn't know about this 10%, how do you claim it?
Hey, yeah the 10% off definitely HAS been extended til the end on June.
To claim it online, you just enter your Woolworths Discount Card number in the Everyday Rewards Card field when buying online. It definitely DOES work.
Holy cow, I was about to pay $1800 for this exact model 6 months ago, I'm glad I didn't.
I did :-|
Lol well just a good thing you didnt buy it the day before this deal started like I did!
so it costs you another $200 extra?
so, what brand of TV can draw the most juice?? i'm sick of all of these hippies trying to save the environment, so i'm doing my bit to destroy it … so i need to find the TV with the highest power consumption, any help??
It'll also affect your elec. bill, not just the environment
Get the biggest one that you can afford then just leave it on 24/7 :)
Nah, much cheaper capital-wise to just buy and turn on a few bar heaters. Probably more entertaining for you to watch those than watching TV. lol!
I got the 54" model of this with a free Wii console pack, sold the pack on ebay and got my tv for $1300 so this is a bargain just being able to walk in store and buy
430w is actually very decent for a plasma (it's like complaining about fuel consumption on a V8)
used to be 42s would do way more than this
i love Panasonic… but the warranty… i would get extended if it's only 1 yr
I can't see where to do extended warranty on their site.
Check your credit card, many offer extended warranty for free.
Dont waste money on extended warranty when there is statutory warranty
also check your credit card T&C on claiming extended warranties.
Master gold card I got extends for 1 year only and you have to pay for $100 excess before any repair is carried out.Sometimes you can get warranty cheaper than $100 for 1 year. But when most people think about warranties they usually want to get it for more than 1 year.
I guess only good thing with CC extended warranty, is that you don't have to pay upfront.
Also you can apply your CC extra warranty on top of the retailer warranty you purchase for up to 5 year period. Eg your TV has 1 year warranty, purchase another 3 retailer warranty + 1 year with your CC provider = 5 years
it doesn't work like that ash for cc extended warranty
example u buy white good that has manufacture warranty 1 year, my citibank cc gives me extended warranty another 1 year.
so if i bought on 1 july 2010, then the manufacture warranty will expired on 30 june 2011, then 1 july 2011 until 30 june 2012.
Statutory warranty didn't help me in the slightest when my Sansui LCD blew a Power Supply at month 15 and they wanted $550 to repair it. Supplier, Kmart and even Fair Trading said "bad luck".
I got the extended with ours but we got ours via HN, worth the extra $100 in my opinion. Had a LG tv that died under warranty, they couldnt get parts for it so they replaced it with a brand new Sony Bravia that was 4" larger…worth every dollar the extended warranty.
anyway to get free delivery or pick up instead?
$60 delivery is a bit steep…
also, how does the samsung at ~$1200 compare considering you get a home theatre bonus?
Cheers$60 delivery is a bit steep
For a 50" TV, dont be stupid!
For a plasma tv, I would rather them delivery it, than pick it up myself.
Plasmas are way more fragile than LCDs, so aren't worth the risk in personal transport, especially given the size.I agree with you. I bet they get it delivered for $8 and they profit on the big inflated margin! what a rip.
I just bought one from Macquarie shopping center, the sales guy waived the delivery fee for me and promised to deliver in the same day today.
Although it is a good deal, I think plasma's price is going to drop further as LED become popular.
Which Samsung 50" is available for $1200??? with the home theater?
thanks!
Aren't the B series the ones with the buzzing issue?
IMO, Panasonic makes better plasma than Samsung?
"IMO" = In my opinion.
But you asked a question?
Real bargain only turn up at the end of the "end of the financial year sale".Be patient guys~~
This is EOFY anyway - like 7 days to go before the new finacial year.
Yep, the idea behind it is so you can make the purchases before the end of the financial year, not in the next financial year, so don't wait for July 1
Great deal! I bought a 42" plasma by Panasonic a couple years back (was $1500) and I'm still very happy with it!
I own a 54 inch model of the S-series, and picture quality is great, as well as motion (I hate blurry/jerky motion). This is a great price.
Cnet has an idea of how much power tvs use, though it doesnt have this specific model. http://reviews.cnet.com/green-tech/tv-consumption-chart/?tag…
If you want to have a rough estimate on the running costs of the plasma, or any TV for that matter, useful to search on the energyrating website. For S10A: http://www.energyrating.gov.au/appsearch/tv_srch.asp?sort=[SRI]+DESC&list=basic&Elec=&Uses=&Years=&size=all&tech=Plasma&brand=PANASONIC&model=S10A&pgsize=50&runout=on&B1=SEARCH
You don't need a website - just multiple the kilowatts (430W = 0.43kW) by the cost of power (between 15 and 20c per kW per hour for domestic electricity). So, you pay 6.5 to 8.5c cents per hour for this Plasma. A 240W plasma saves you 190W, which is saving you 3 to 4c per hour.
If that 240W plasma cost you $500 more, it would take a minimum 12,500 hours pay itself back. That's just over 4 years at 8 hours per day, 365 days per year. The thing would probably be superceded or dead by that time. :-)
actually the consumption difference might be even lesser than you think. my spidey senses tell me the 430W is the peak power rating while 240W is the typical power rating. no?
True, not that hard to work out the running costs for an individual TV, but energyrating website is still useful when comparing other similar models, in particular the newer models vs this particular one.
But you are right, it's hard to justify getting a newer model on just running costs alone, as there will be other factors to purchase a newer one over last years model (bonuses and new features such as Internet TV…). As you have correctly pointed out, even 8hrs/day would be quite excessive, and by the time you justify the cost back, TV will mostly be dead, and you will most likely replace it with new technology by then (such as 3D which will probably be mainstream by then).
Can anyone who have this TV put a few words in? I'm so close to buying this one.
Theyre making way for the new Panasonic 3dtv..experienced it tonight…was pretty decent…
My guess was they were making room for the new S20 range, which should be out some time in July.
Would not be too surprised if they are also make room for the 3D range (VT20), since they should be out real soon (in warehouses end of this week?), or even room for some 54V20A, which are supposedly available after 28th June.
It is important to understand that the new 2010 model THP-50S20A will not be the replacement model for the old 2009 THP50S10A. "S" signifies different things between 2009 and 2010 models. The old THP-50S10A was the bottom of the range Full HD Plasma. The new 2010 THP-50S20A model is the 3rd model up in the new 2010 range -X20,U20,S20,V20, then VT20. This is according to the www.panasonic.com.au web site. Remember that the old 2009 plasma are being heavily discounted from their original price because of their extremely heavy power consumption - close to double that of the new 2010 Panasonic models. Look at the whole of life cost which includes the power bill.
Anyone else from Melbourne getting an email today saying they have no stock whatsoever, even though you ordered on Wednesday? Can't believed that I've been jibbed on this one.
warranty?
