  • The title and specs say 1080P but the description under the picture says 720P?

  • The Samsung PS50B550 is a true 1920x1080 (or 1080p) panel. The description on the website is actually for the Samsung PS42B450 which is a 720p panel.

My guess is the website description is wrong.

  • how do you get the oz bargain coupon???

  • How are these on power compared to your normal sorta lcd? I am looking at getting one for a younger brother, he is still using a old 60cmish crt for playing his video games. It will be being used most nights.

Because its either a sweet brand panel like this, or something like a hisense lcd :S

    • choice did a test and found that for the price difference between same sized plasma vs lcd screens, you get a few years worth of electricity out of the plasma…this is even though plasmas are more power hungry but less $$$ then lcds…

plasma is bad for video games.

took my PS3 to the mrs's parent's place, they have a 50in panasonic.

after an hour or two of GTA IV, i went back into the main menu and found the health bar and map outline from the game had been burnt into the screen.

i am pretty sure that it washed away, but i believe longer periods would cause more permanent screen burn, but i was not game to try….

Yep, thanks for talking about a 5yr old plasma.

      • I have this model and yes there is a little burn, but it's temporary (literally minutes). There is no permanent burn at all. And I'm on the xbox most days all night.

But this is the same burn you get from watching normal tv, where the football scores stay in the corner, you don't notice unless you're really looking.

Great TV, no issues with it. Plus, it had picture-in-picture if you're into your sports. ;)

Just be aware guys you're talking about two entirely different issues, one is image retention (common to all plasma technology), it's nothing to worry about and disappears after you start displaying dynamic images on that part of the panel again; the other is actual burn-in, which is pretty much only seen on older panels and is usually a result of poor inherent screen protection strategies (pixel shifting etc), however it is permanent, but can be mitigated with some intensive screen image bombardment!

That said, I prefer LCD myself, but thought I'd chip in my 2c worth to clear up some misconceptions! ;)

    • Plasmas chew the juice!!
kinda ironic as the black looks better than on the LCD

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! Great deal, made an order and received confirmation that I can pickup TV today.

  • very tempted, does the USB play video?

    • i would say yes although check the samsung website for details and make sure to update firmware

      • Just found out its doesn't by default but there's a secret menu that does do it.

        • checkout samygo before updating firmware, ie: google samygo. I hope to use wifi on this tv with samygo. plan b is the xbox 360.

Before you go out and get this thinking its a great deal (which it probably is) go down to your closest large electronics store and check out their end of financial year sales. I got a Panasonic TH-P46S10A (46" full HD 2009 model) for $698 at Toowoomba Good Guys. They had a couple FHD 50" there for 1000 and 1100. Probably all gone now but worth a look. Would save on postage.

    • im looking at purchasing this Samsung TV
when did you get your Panasonic TV?

      • Saturday 5th I bought it.

  • Nice, I brought one of these when they were on special at Dick Smith for $1995 [around July 2009] and it's been great ever since.

Very tempted to get a second unit, very cheap. Even though a few years behind in the series'

I've used it with a Wii, PS3 and my media center for around 12months now without issues. The burn in is noticeable on media center menus if you leave them there, but it goes away quickly enough or not noticeable when in a picture.

    • To fix burn in if it becomes an issue, just put the snow show on for awhile, I do it sometimes as I'm going to sleep, put it up before you go to bed and the TV should turn itself off within about 15mins when it hasn't got anything tuned in, found this little trick on a forum once, have had no issues with my plasma and had mine since 2007 (panasonic 50")

  • Hi, can any inform how to get the OzBargain Coupon?

    Thanks

  • Looking at the promotion poster PS50B550 is eligible, but if you open the FAQ page, PS50B550 is not listed in the included models…

    any ideas?

    • Terms and Conditions mention this model.

  • Can anyone tell me how do you get the ozbargain coupon?

  • howdy all… pricing is good and all, but I suggest to anyone interested in buying a samsung tv, try it first.

i recently bought a samsung lcd, and whilst happy with picture and sound, the tv guide is VERY slow. annoyingly so. it shows 5-6 channels, but then to scroll it literally takes 20 seconds to load. a 'lifetime' when all you want to do is flick.

just try first. otherwise no complaints with tv itself.

  • I purchased the PS50C550 earlier this month for $1250.

Samsung make great TV's, excellent PQ, only downisde I have found is as mentioned above, the TV guide.

    • Hi, would you mind sharing from where you bought C550 for $1250. Looks like a good price.
Any idea what is the diff
      Thanks.between 50B550 and 50C550 ?

  • woo

  • I bought into this bargain. The PS50B550 model I received is capable of DiVX and MP4 playback with some tinkering. It arrived with the 2001 firmware. I had to downgrade to a Samygo-patched 1007 firmware. Then I could enable Wiselink Movie and some other settings via the service menu.

URL for firmware version I used was http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/FM/200906/20090611…
Be sure to read about Samygo, http://samygo.sourceforge.net/
And there's forum chatter all over the net about enabling Wiselink mode on various models.

    • Hi, can you please let me know if this unit is:

      PS50B550T2F. PS50B550T2M, or PS50B550T2R

Any idea what is the difference in these models?

I will appreciate your response by 4pm today (so that I can buy today).

      Thanks.

  • Thanks to this posting just got this plasma yesterday, really happy with it and with $799 home theatre bonus this really is a steal… Thx

  • Damn… umm'd and ahh'd over this right up until the final buzzer (its 11:30pm on June 30th, haha), finally bit the bullet only to find the coupon has expired :(

    • Sad… when I ordered at 4pm, the coupon was already expired. But then I called Exeltek and the person said they will do it manually. After placing the order, the guy called me back to confirm the discount.

In your case the problem is it is way past 5pm so its probably better that you didnt order. Might not have qualified for the free bonus.

  • ah well. Maybe someone from Exeltek read this and call me up offering to dodgy up the order so it took place before the coupon & bonus offers expired hint hint :)

    • You might as well give them a call and tell them you tried and it didnt work and ask what they can do for you. This is, if you are desperate to get this deal. :)

      • Gave them a call but no go unfortunately. Ah well.
