Damn. Only Economy & PE. This would've been great for business redemptions. I wonder if it's 30% off on top of the 15% off you already get for redeeming online? Will go and test now.

    Still a +vote for me!

Had the exact same thinking for business class redemption, but I'm more than happy in premium economy. Leg room, booze, and movies - I'm all set.

    • @dazzywazzy it's 30% to replace 15% :)
@meatspin updated description, thanks for the pick up

Yep. And just from my testing now it seems that if you are booking a multi leg ticket, you don't receive the 30%.

EG Adelaide to Paris Economy ONE WAY (through SIN) on the same ticket comes up as 40,375 KrisFlyer miles + AUD 417.91 which is only 15% SAVING.

However Adelaide to Singapore Economy RETURN which is only 1 sector per trip, comes up as 35,000 KrisFlyer miles + AUD 435.45 which has passed on the full 30% saving (normally 42,500 KrisFlyer miles + AUD 435.45)

With Singapore Airlines having some of the biggest surcharges in the industry, I would say only Premium Economy would be worth it for this sale. I'll try and find a couple of good PE routes and post them here with their prices if I get time.

Would be many people with Velocity points from recent deals that might be able to find this deal useful.

        • Champ! :)

If I wasn't going to Japan during the travel period next year, I'd be all over this deal too with the recent velocity point transfer deals haha

        • I'm looking for Adelaide to Scotland. would be interested to see what you find around Europe. Especially the fees and taxes.

        • @tunzafun001: I chose Franky as an example as it's cheaper to fly in to there than Heathrow. It would have to be done in two bookings like this:

Adelaide to Singapore Return 35,000 KrisFlyer miles + AUD 435.45 (Economy)
Singapore to Frankfurt Return 49,000 KrisFlyer miles + SGD 597.30 (Economy)

This would cost 113,407 Virgin Points if converted over.

Or you could splurge a little:

Adelaide to Singapore Return 35,000 KrisFlyer miles + AUD 435.45 (Economy)
Singapore to Frankfurt Return 87,500 KrisFlyer miles+ SGD 597.30 (Premium Economy)

This would cost 165,385 Virgin points if converted over.

There is no Premium Economy departing the Adelaide sector, so this would be your most comfortable way to get there return if departing Adelaide.

        • @dazzywazzy:

Thanks for that. I think I would just book a paid flight to Singapore and go PE or above for remainder. Can you do open Jaw flights with points? Ie. SIN->FRA-/LHR->ADL or Glasgow/ Inverness departure back to ADL etc?

ie, Last year I did SIN->LHR/CDG->ADL and it was $900 with Etihad

  • This doesn't appear to be all flights, only the ones listed on the linked page. No extra discount that I can tell on the CBR-WLG route, for example.

Sydney to Paris return is usually 95,000 points. However, the required points on this deal after the bonus is applied, is 84,000 points - an 11.5% deduction. It's not even the normal 15% discount, let alone the bogus 30%. By charging per sector, they have artificially inflated the required points. Buyers beware!

    • Damn, such a pity its per sector. I am about to book flights for April to go to Europe and was initially so excited when I got the email from them :(

I'm hearing you! I was super excited last night thinking a February France ski trip was in order but was gutted when I saw what they'd done. Not happy Jan!
