is quick charge a technology requiring a suitable phone to enable the quick charging function??

YES - if you want more than the standard 5V 2A = 10W of grunt.

I thought it was technology where any charging done by the battery pack was faster…

The amount of power (Watts = Volts times Amps) that each pack can output varies. This is defined by the output Boost Converter circuit inside them. The USb standard is 5 Volts. The higher spec battery packs can output higher than 5 Volts either using Qualcomm Quick Charge or maybe USB Type C + USB PD 2.0.

The 10,000 mAh unit in this deal outputs 2.1 Amps at nominal 5.1V.

The speed that it charges any phone is dictated by the voltages that it presents to the iPhone via the USB data pins. The phone will just take what it can take… you cannot "push" the power into it any faster.

Many suppliers are coming up with so-called "Smart Charging" chips that try all sorts of combinations of voltages etc and see how the phone reacts. I am not convinced any of those really work very well.

The bottom line is that a Sony Xperia Z3 apparently has a Qualcomm QC 2.0 chip inside it… so you would want to use a Qualcomm Quick Charge certified chipset in the charger to minimise your charging times.

  • Just bought 2x 10000mAh. Thanks op and store rep.

  • no add-ons with the 10,000mah pro ? damn wanted a 5000mah for 12.95 too!

  • I have an iphone 6s. what is the benefit of getting the QC 2.0 model over the standard model?

    • It'll quick-charge your new Android phone when you switch in the future. :)

      Have a read

Do I need this if I don't have a Quick Charge/Type-C compatible device?
No, save the extra money and go for the normal Xiaomi Mi 10000mAh Power Bank, as it won't make a noticeable difference if your device doesn't support this.

  • Bought 10000mAh and 5000mAh. Thanks a lot, OP

    • Glad to help ;)

  • Hi Mushtato, accidentally selected Bank Deposit thinking it was VISA payment. Could you please cancel my order Order #19899 - so that I can place the order again and change payment gateway.

Hi, I've ordered a XIAOMI Power Bank Pro 10000 mAh on the 2 Nov. The money was deducted from my PayPal, but I have not received any email confirming the purchase or tracking etc. It's been close to 3 weeks now, can I please get confirmation of my order?

    Thanks for your time.
