  • Wowee….goodbye Woolworths hello Coles for the next 2 months. Pity just spent $120 tonight to click over 3 credits in October and get my 15000 Flybuys pts. Coles are on a winner here, well for me anyways!

    • +1

I was holding off until tommoro to complete my week 4 for 20000 points, as Ive already spent over $1000 this month, and that is the maximum for the coles insurances bonus points (4 that I hold) Fly buys is bombarding me with Bonus points atm….loving it. Thanks to their tie up with Etihad Ive become Etihad Gold, and Velocity platinum is now within easier reach because of these status credits.

    • +1

Yeah since flybuys started with velocity, I have ONLY been shopping at coles (or flybuys locations).

    • Take out a CGU insurance policy to be eligible for Presidential Rewards. From here you can get 5% discounted Coles Egift cards (exactly the same as Cashrewards / woolies system EXCEPT.. it comes with a barcode you simply scan a the checkout. No manual entry required!).

*Note -You can chose a Bpay option and never actually pay for the policy, but your presidential account will close at the Bpay expiry date (about 2 weeks). Plenty of time to grab an Egift card!

  • I got an email with an Activate Now link for it - does everyone need to do that then, or is it automatically double?

  • woo!

  • Maximum of 40 status credit can be earned. Not sure if that helps one. You need 500 points to reach gold for a first time.

    • I dont think it was designed to hit status just by shopping at Coles- for me its a good top up to my existing status credits, but for non frequent flyers it could be the difference between red and silver, or silver and gold.

      • same here - plus the 40 credits is just for nov/dec.
i only just dropped from platinum back to gold velocity, but with flybuys potentially giving me 140 status credits over the next 12 months, plus a couple of upcoming holidays, it should just put me over the mark to keep gold next year.

  • If I pool 2 members = 40 credits per month, 80 for 2 months?

    • no.

    • I believe yes - so long as they are two totally unlinked flybuys accounts. and 2 seperate velocity accounts (which are family pooled)

      • Interesting, could work.

        • Probably only if the accounts are at different addresses. All the Flybuys Ts & Cs for the Status Credit earn seem to refer to a Flybuys "household:", rather than individual accounts, so that would seem to infer that Flybuys cardholders at the same address may be counted as a "household"? If you are family pooling with Velocity, both accountholders must be living at the same address, so I wonder whether Velocity and Flybuys will have the ability to "cross-check" on their systems with regards to Flybuys cardholders addresses?

          @SimbaGirl:

Probably only if the accounts are at different addresses.

One lives in the bed room and the other in the lounge room

        • +1

@CandyMan: …or is it more like, one lives in the bedroom & the other lives at the computer hunting for bargains online!!!

        • +2

@SimbaGirl: Imply. Not 'infer'. Although I take your point about the pooling. In my case, my wife signed up, and from memory she had the ability to add an extra cardholder, so I'm part of the same login.

  • Are Velocity status points good for anything other than flights? Like Velocity points that can be redeemed for gift cards?

    • +1

The only thing status gives you is some perks- depending on your level they are good for lounge access, priority boarding, extra luggage, extra Velocity points, and makes upgrades a tad easier.

      • Is that all you get at the platinum level?

        • not there yet. Gold

        • @MelbBargainChaser77:

So what is the difference between Gold and Platinum? Do you get free upgrades?

        • +1

@serpserpserp: as a platinum youd be at the top of the queue for an op up

        • +1

          @serpserpserp:

platinum vs gold, the 30 second guide:
          - can take 3 friends into domestic lounges rather than only 1 (international generally only 1 friend regardless of gold or platinum)
          - more luggage allowance (handy for overseas trips)
          - earn more points (get a 100% bonus instead of 75% or 50% bonus on the points you earn - note points, not status credits)
          - get 4 free upgrades to business class per year (domestic only, need to upgrade from flexi fare)
i suspect you'd be closer to the top of the list for random upgrades & other preferential treatment too.

most of the really useful stuff comes when you get gold though so in reality that's the one you really want
          - lounge access
          - check in via priority/business/first class lanes (this is worth it's weight in gold when you travel overseas!)
          - complimentary luggage allowance (2x 23kg suitcases on any domestic flight, 3x23kg on a lot of international flights)
          - priority boarding on domestic flights (a little meh at times but nice to not have to stand in another queue)

generally you just get looked after a lot better, it's the little things like being given express lane passes for customs/security, and in general not having to stand around in f***ing queues all day which just takes the sting out of travelling… a lot more relaxing :D

      • +1

Extra lost luggage? or do you gain someone's else's lost luggage?

        • +1

My luggage has never been lost with VA, only happened to me once, a flight from Abu Dhabi to Heathrow, which Etihad compesated me 239pounds, and ended up delivering it to my hotel in London 8 hours later, also claimed it on my travel insurance another 200pounds ! I was Etihad Silver at that stage flying in Business class on a points upgrade- points i gained mostly from Flybuys!

      • +1

Platinum also gives you 4 complimentary domestic upgrades from economy to business class per year.

  • woohooo

  • I have 90 status credits currently, most earned about 6 months ago. I feel like this could be useful to me, but not sure

    • You need 250 to get to silver. If your not a frequent flyer, not worth chasing, plus silver benefits are very limited

      • Ok thanks. I may well fly frequently with work next year but no guarantees. Ta

        • If you have a partner/ wife and kids make sure you are pooling to 1 account. But if 180 credits per year is gonna be your average not really worth it. This is more beneficial to people mid silver/on the verge of gold.

This is swinging me to coles from Woolworth as It may be the difference between gold and silver

  • This will definitely help me get over the line to platinum this year! Needed an extra 10-20 status credits based on the travel I have left before review date. Seriously loving this initiative. Will be doing all my shopping at Coles now.

  • +6

20 status credits is a one way flight between Melbourne and Sydney. To earn it through this flybuys promo you need to spend at least $1000 through Coles. I really see this as being of such little value, especially when to get gold you need 500 credits or 1000 for platinum.

If you're anywhere near gold or platinum you will already be travelling a lot (or pooling with family) so I wouldn't be making purchasing decisions solely on these status credits.

    • Agree, if you don't fly semi-regularly this is pointless.

But a lot of people who fly semi-regularly, might just need 20, 60, 100 pts to click over to Gold/Plat.

On another note, now bags are part of all virgin fares, Silver is pointless IMO!

      • Exactly right Coops. This is perfect for those of us who do fly a bit and might just get us over e line to reach silver/gold/play. For me it should help me reach plat this year. Which I won't be able to retain next year but the soft landing to gold will be great and then I should be able to maintain gold.

      • But a lot of people who fly semi-regularly, might just need 20, 60, 100 pts to click over to Gold/Plat

This will be the main benefit if you just need some help to get over the line for Gold or Plat status. For those of us who live in WA, "status runs" (to get those last 20 or 30 Status Credits to requalify/achieve the next status level, for example) can be very expensive and time-consuming. We don't have the option of short, cheap "hops" between cities as those living on the East Coast do! It's often cheaper for us to fly to SYD or MEL than it is doing regional flights in WA, but of course flying coast-to-coast takes up a lot of time. Getting some SCs from shopping I'll be doing at Coles anyway is definitely going to be of benefit to us.

  • Typical. I did it on Friday for 15% bonus.
    Always the way

  • Any ideas how I can register if I haven't received the email? Or is it targeted?

    • If you haven't received the email, log into your Flybuys account and see whether it's listed under "My Offers" - if so, you should be able to activate it from there.

      • Hmm I didn't receive the email and it's not under offers on my login. I've linked my velocity and flybys account.

        • There's nothing I could see in the Ts & Cs of the email I received (which are identical to those in the OP's deal post) that it's targeted - maybe give it a day or so to see if you get the email or if it appears in your offers - if not, give Flybuys a call.

      • Not there either :(

  • From 30 Jan 2017 Virgin will be making changes to their Status Credit earning rates:

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/StatusCre…

The cheapest fare-restricted economy-will make it more difficult to reach silver/gold/platinum as you will receive less status credits on these flights.

  • I see on AFF the Flybuys rep has confirmed ALL Flybuys members who link their account to Velocity are eligible for the double SC offer, regardless of whether or not they received the offer email or activated the offer: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-a…. Note: the Flybuys rep is referring to the Flybuys double SC offer only, NOT the targeted Velocity offer that is the subject of the linked thread.
