  • Just for people interested - you can get a similar one without the black case/ holder for around ~$1.60 on eBay

    • Worth having the holder to always keep it in an accessible place

        Cheaper to glue it on

  • Funny, as I was thinking about these this morning, wondering whether there's a keyring version. Turns out there is.

    • They're $1 on ebay :)

      • Hmm. Wonder if this comment applies.

Yeah id say so, i wouldnt really trust them. Though guess you could go to the wreckers for the $2 entry fee and test it? :P

  • Would you trust a discount/cheaply made version? Or do you test them when you get them?

How much would you spend on a tool designed to save your life?

      are you in sales? :)
by that logic, if you value your life, you wouldn't spend anything less than your life's savings on this tool

Was roped into a cooking equipment demo the other week. That's just the line the lady used "Can you put a price on your families safety?". This was after telling us how all our cooking equipment is killing is, and we should drop $4000 on their cooking stuff. No thanks!

        It's a salespersons favourite line!

How much to spend = value of life x percentage risk of ever requiring it

Which is why we dont drive around with fully loaded scuba gear 'just in case'

Please test it on your car and report back. Thanks.

      • there's feedback on amazon of people buying cheap copies of lifehammer like this one, then arriving at a car accident and unable to smash windows or cut seatbelts. So it's a fair question. I'll be buying a lifehammer original.

        • I personally have never seen this type of hammer fail, trick is to hit the top corner of the glass, a lot of people make the mistake of hitting dead center which is a lot harder to get a break. As for seatbelt cutters, they have to be sharp, no doubt about that, but, you must cut on a 45 degree angle NOT straight across, you will never cut a seatbelt with one of these tools at 90 degrees.

While I am on the advice line…please don't ever carry something heavy in your cabin. I noticed on another deal someone mentioned carrying a club lock on their passenger seat. If you roll your car, that will become something that will very likely kill you if it strikes you in the head…very silly to do this.

    • its just a small pointy hammer, thats all.

  • Wouldn't a rock work just fine??? Seriously curious!!

good point - i guess u just have to keep a rock in your glove box (flintstone style)

    • Anything can break glass if you use it to strike the glass with enough force. If you have a material that is extremely hard and sharpened to a point, you can shatter tempered glass without applying much force at all. Thats the principle behind these "window breakers". A ghetto version can be made by breaking the ceramic section of a spark plug , finding a piece with a sharp point and using that to strike the glass.. if you look around youtube you can find plenty of vids that demonstrate how effective this is.

If you check the Metal bars/Bins on the bottom of the front head rests you will may find one of them pointy. Apparently the pointy bit is what you should use to break a window in case of an emergency. Was told this the other week. Seems to make sense

    • I'll have a look and see.

Hard to get a refund if this life saving tool fails when you need it most
