Now I need a car window to practice on.

3 out of the 4 reviews were completed within a space of 1 minute on 30 April 2014, which makes me suspect they could be fake reviews, this creates some doubt whether the 4th one is real too.

    • same review text segments were found on similar products from amazon.com
      …least its authentic.

      • +1

If it's not the same product, the performance may differ.

        • +2

Yes, they may just copy and paste the reviews. If this is a legit product and works as good as ResQme, then why it also has exactly the same shape/structure as ResQme? I think the intention is to make you mis-understand they are the same product and have same performance.

I would trust it more if not copy from other product.

Ps. I can't understand why people give 5/5 reviews when nobody get a chance to use it, if these people are real by any chance.

Got to be careful with these glass breaker devices. The tip needs to be made of specially hardened steel as in most situations where you need to break the glass you will be trapped in the vehicle and won't have much leverage.
I worked for a bus company and it is a safety requirement that all buses have at least one on boaard. The purchasing manager bought some from the cheapest supplier and subsequent testing showed that only a really strong person would be able to shatter the glass as the tips were blunting on impact and reducing the pressure at the impact point. (P=F/A). Whole lot needed to be binned and replaced.

Spend $2 on a knife and use the headrest to smash the window glass. Not exactly reliable but I'd guess you'd have a better chance of getting out than with this

    • Unfortunately my WRX Recaros don't have a detachable headrest… So I guess I could use the gear knob.

      • +4

Guess you could use your knob…nah, hang on…you drive a wrx!

        Sorry, couldn't resist :)

        • Yes, I drive a WRX and I have a knob. What do you have against rexys? Probably one of the best cars in the market. I'd like to know what car you drive.

        • +1

If your ever trapped in the wrx just have one of your mates jump on the bonnet and the doors will open. Safety feature in wrx's in case the car flips.

        • I've got nothing against rexys…just their drivers!

          Only kidding.

I'm sure it's a good car, just not for everyone.

Back to my original point, there's no way I'd trust something like this to get me out of an emergency situation. Don't skimp on safety.

I guess your into Camry's and Civics?
I think you need to work on your sense of humour… It's a bit dry. :P

Speaking of dry. I'm in need of a Tooheys.

        • +3

Hahaha…spot on…I did have a Camry once. Boring car to drive but just kept going no matter how badly I treated it. In a 4WD these days, it's not shiny and it's not fast but it gets us plenty of places with no one else around which is why I can't afford to skimp on safety.

Without ever having seen it I can guarantee this $2 "emergency tool" is a POS that probably wouldn't cut a tampon string or break a bottle let alone get anyone out of a rolled vehicle.

The Mrs cringes at my sense of humour at times too…I'm too old (and stubborn) to change now though.

          Cheers

        • Cheers buddy.

        • -2

Uh oh. The neggers are here.

    • +2

That doesn't sound like a plan.

In a real emergency, you'll need a good amount of time to first detach the headrest behind your head (that of course assumes you aren't trapped or restrained in anyway), and without losing your grip on it bring it around and then have enough momentum and leverage to actually try and swing it at the nearest window.

A headrest doesn't have a good handle on it for you to be able to transfer all of your might behind each swing, unless you're holding it by the metal prongs and swinging cushion-first into the window, lol.

I actually heard of a case in Japan during the 2011 Tsunami where a women did manage to shatter the driver's side window with the headrest from her seat, but she didn't do it via blunt-force but by wedging one of the prongs into the corner of the window and prying the window to the point where it flexed enough times to shatter. And it certainly took longer than you'd like in a real life-or-death situation.

  • Pop the boot, grab a tyre iron and go nuts.

    • I think this "car emergency tool" is to be used when you are trapped inside a car!
Why would i wanna cut the seat belt and break the glass when i can get off the car to open the boot?

Or did i miss something here…

      • +1

        Yep, you missed it

      • Just smile ~~~~

  • Fake ResQme? I wonder if this will actually work in emergency when it's the only thing my life can rely on, especially as I don't have a spare car window to test the quality before that particular moment.

    • Use someone elses.

  • +1

Just carry a Stanley knife in your car and half a house brick. The people who buy these things are probably the same annoying people who carry hand sanitizer. You're going to die of something so just suck it up.

  • Use the Swiss army knife, you have in that box between the two front seats.

  • Just use your club lock/ steering wheel lock to smash the glass. I leave mine on the passengers seat when I drive.

  • +2

Wolfenator, There is the safety aspect of leaving heavy objects just sitting around your car. If you are in an accident they don't stay in one place.
I had a cast iron frying pan I bought at a closing down sale the previous day fly out a rear window under impact. Thankfully it was a side impact accident. If it was a head on it could of been worse for me.

  • A car will nearly always float for at least 20-40 seconds before sinking. Keep your cool, wind the window down and unbuckle your seatbelt.
