Chasing a nice ultrabook, any suggestions?

    • +4

Dell XPS13 with a 7th Gen processor. Best ultrabook on the market imo.

      • +4

Except Dell have removed the 7th gen ones from their ebay listing :(

        • Boooooo!

HP Spectre 13 is a pretty cool ultrabook as well but I'd also go the Dell XPS 13 over it.

        • It was there two days ago, now its gone. Its still on their website though.

      • hopefully some retailer has one for about ~$1,500

      • Buy that from the dell ebay store during a 20% off sale.

      following this!

As well as the Dell XPS 13 I also like the look of the Razer Blade Stealth - especially the funky keyboard which is apparently quite nice to type on. Battery life is not great however

    Soundbar recommendations?

    • following this too

    • +1

I have Sony HT-XT1 as speakers for my laptop/projector setup in about 25m^2 room and I am super happy about it. Loud enough for movies (which means loud), clear and bassy sound. I have no comparison though + I bought it for <$100 on DS close down.

    • +2

I recommend buying some decent bookshelf speakers, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

      • Why do you say that?

        • I'm guessing better sound quality is one. Soundbars are well known for having small drivers that can't reproduce the full spectrum of sound effectively whilst simultaneously being more expensive than bookshelf speakers.

        • hy do you say that?

Because soundbars are a wank, and they sound like shite.

Pay the same aount for a pair of speakers with proper drivers and amplifier and enclosure,

      • Can you suggest some decent ones?

    • -1

I support Sonos in a big way. best home audio solution you'll find. 'Tis expensive though…

      • Define best :p

    • Don't get a Sony HTCT-180 - I picked one up to go with my Bravia only to find that it doesn't have Bravia Sync so you need to use two separate remotes, the audio is slightly delayed behind the video and the sounds of voices/dialogue get lost amongst the rest of the noise. I've only had it a few days and have already switched it off out of frustration.

If I hadn't already thrown the box out I'd have taken it back to JB Hi-Fi

I'm after a smart watch to go with my new iPhone 7. Hopefully there are a few bargains on those tomorrow :-)

Heres a joke for people waiting for the sale.

What's long, stiff and full of seamen?

    Submarine.

  • wonder whether Mavic Pro would be available for preorder from anyone :-D

    • Mavic Pro alone with some hero5 black. the dream ababy

      • I think with another two iterations of Karma, it just might be a stable drone as much as the DJI ones, it takes time to master the drone art, meanwhile, DJI would probably catch up on the camera front.

  • Love to know if anyone sees a mirror less camera bargain

  • I'm still waiting for the nexus 5x to be delivered from DWI. Anyone have any experience cancelling an order with them?
If I see something better and in stock I don't want to end up with two phones but been waiting almost 2 weeks

    • +1

I was in a similar issue to you - They were slow to send an order, so I cancelled. I did it via the Livechat, so give that a go and you could know straight away.

    • +1

I bought a phone from them with the 10% off sale, then the 15% sale came up. I cancelled the 10% off and re-bought at 15% off with no issues.

    • Thanks guys

  • +3

Perfect timing. If the new Pixel phone looks terrible I'll just grab a Nexus 5X.

    • several sites have already unveiled the pixel.. images of the white version was released yesterday

      • I know, but probably the most important thing will be how they choose to price it and whether it has any unleaked drawbacks we don't know of yet like a missing 3.5mm Jack or something.

        • The 3d render animation of the phone has a 3.5mm jack at the top of the phone.. it'll be around the $700-$800 mark

        • @knackers:

I've seen it and I know, just waiting for Google to tell me that the price isn't true.

        • @StrayfireX: Some Aussie Tech sites are suggesting the price will be between $1000 and $1200.. ridiculous

        • @knackers:

Almost makes an iPhone look affordable.

I hope the $1k price flops hard so we end up with a $330 phone this time next year like with the Lumia 950.

  • These deals just keep on coming don't they!

Shopping for a mechanical keyboard. Just compare the prices on FUTU and PCByte with MSY, even with 20% off, FUTU and PCByte prices are not much different from MSY :(

    • i just do quick google (shopping tab) comparison, and every item is jacked up already….wtf…

      • Please do that, that would be awesome. Also include a column with the retailers price on their own site. I find some examples where it is even cheaper to buy direct and avoid the 'ebay tax'.

        • google search is free luckily.

    • I nabbed a corsair one a while back. Love it.

      • Which Corsair model? How much?

        • k95rgb masterrace

        • +2

@furythree: Urgh, please don't use the words "master race". It sounds so lame. it's basically like comparing who has the biggest e-penis :(

        • @edfoo: only if youre too prudish to realise its used as tongue in cheek

          here you dropped this

          .,'~TRiGGeRReedD!~!',.

        • @furythree: I know you meant no harm. Just that you replied my question which is directed to Xizor, and adding those words sounds a bit lame. I have no intention to buy the Corsair K95 RGB keyboard because I am not willing to spend near $200 for it, now those words just turn me off even more :(

        • @edfoo: i only paid $135

        • @furythree: Good for you.

  • +3

My wishlist, including price I want to pay:

    CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($417.00)
    Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($230.00)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($125.00)
    Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX Video Card ($896.00)

I'll be happy if I can pick up any of these close to best price. So far I'm not liking my chances.

  • Anyone recommend a good wireless laptop mouse? No gaming. Have never had one previously (shock, horror), so no idea what to look for. Thx

    • +7

      Logitech mx anywhere 2

      • +3

+1 to this, i use one and its the best BT mouse i have used so far.

    • +1

Brand / model is not that important for normal use. Look for one that takes a single AA battery and has the tiny usb dongle.
      Example .. http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/wireless-mouse-m21…

      • Brand / model is not that important for normal use.

Why are you even recommending one though, you just said "use anything, doesn't matter"?

        • OMG must be school holidays… look again and note the word "EXAMPLE" before the link.

      • Look for one that takes a single AA battery and has the tiny usb dongle.

Why would anybody bother with a dongle, when every laptop and tablet has Bluetooth?

    • +3

      Microsoft Arc Touch.

It was on sale at the microsoft store.

    • +1

I've had the arc touch and the mx anywhere, the arc touch is not ergonomic at all and personally i hated it. The mx anywhere is a good mouse, tracks on most surfaces but i find it a little small. If you need portability then go for the mx anywhere, if it's to sit on a desk permanently then get mx master.

      • Nah, I prefer gaming mouses for permanent solutions. So much better than wireless mice.

        • That's fine if you're gaming but Hen has requested "wireless" and "no gaming".

    • Thanks all for the recommendations. Have checked them out and now have another query….what are the advantages of a mouse such as Logitech anywhere over something such as Logitech m325 or similar. Big price difference so I'm guessing some big functional differences. The works on any surface thing would be one (important) one, but any others? (Apologies for tech naivety, and for highjacking post…hope the responses help others too)

      • +2

If you're looking for a wireless mouse, consider the Logitech G602 and you can pick one up for $69 or cheaper on Amazon.

Between the two, the MX Anywhere 2 with the Darkfield laser is the one you're looking for which will work on most surfaces.
The standard optical on the M325 will not work on all surfaces.

        Logitech MX Anywhere 2 has,

        Darkfield Laser
        Max 1600 dpi
        Bluetooth or USB receiver
More Ergonomic and better for extended usage

        Logitech M325 has,

        Standard Optical
        Max 1000 dpi
        USB receiver
        Better as a laptop mouse

So, what are you going to use the mouse for?
        Just work or gaming?

        • +1

Thank you jajaMinx. No gaming. Just for laptop (windows 7 pro) use around the house and caravan mostly…Internet, email, word processing etc. Nothing full on but be great if it worked on sofa etc!

        • +2

          @Hen:

As previous poster has stated, the MX Anywhere 2 is great. One thing to consider is whether you will have more than one mouse for your laptop? E.g. different parts of the house or for home and work.

In that case, then getting something like a Logitech with their "Unifying" receiver allows you to connect multiple mice (or keyboards) to the same laptop using only one USB dongle. This is very convenient when you are moving from one location to another without having to carry accessories around or have to manually reconnect/change dongles etc (up to the 6 device limit of Logitech).

Note: It does not necessarily have to be Logitech. If the other brands allow the same functionality that works too. I'm only familiar with Logitech though, and they make great mice too! :)

These Microsoft mice have bluetooth and Bluetrack which will work on most surfaces.

      • in my honest opinion. the cheap ones listed in edgar28's post are perfectly fine OEM no name chinese mice

the quality has skyrocketed in the past few years especially if all youre after is a basic mouse not for gaming

$5 give or take beats any "peace of mind or warranty" from name brands

        source: own 20 mice

        • How much are they?

        • 20!!! Oh my!

        • @JajaMinx: $5 or $10 absolute max

    • Get a cheap logitech or microsoft wireless mouse.

  • No more such good price like before with Dick Smith Macbook Air 13", it is now $1600 on ebay :(

  • Any good deals on printers in these things? Or probably hyper inflated? I'm looking for a reliable multifunction home office colour laser the duplexes.

The kyocera I've got is only 4 yrs old has horrible print quality and a $120 new cartridge didn't fix it. Would avoid that brand.

Had old an brother black laser that lasted like 15yrs. Don't make em like they used to.
