Where's the bargain? That's always the free

      • -1

Pretty sure this has been ongoing for at least a year.
They may not always advertise it, but will always offer this on checkout if you haven't used it already.

I can also confirm that they are not very dodgy in regards of stock levels.
It's just that some stuff sells out quickly, and some doesn't.

      • +16

Dont know why I got downvoted.

        • +2

          Haters gonna hate.

Or on OzB the know it alls love like their opinion to be known and vote people down.
Unfortunately this stops newbies or irregular posters from posting things. And if people were not aware of these deals then too bad.

I have no problem with the constructive feedback and comments as people can read, but the down voting of people with a different opinion and not saying why is pretty poor.

        • +3

          @deal88:
So it seems that the main issue is that regular users knew about this already. But also seems a lot of people were not aware of it.

        • +6

@deal88: If by "a lot of people" meaning newbies then common practice would be utilising the search function. Anyone doing regular online shopping would know about COTD ClubCatch perk. This is Ozbargain, it takes awhile to be a regular user on this forum.

        • +3

          @sky blu:
I did an extensive search for this before posting.
Don't know where any previous Club Catch membership deal was hiding but I could not find it. That is why I posted it.

I do remember seeing a similar deal posted a few years ago.

If you have a link showing the old deal, feel free to post it.

        • +2

@deal88: pretty sure almost every deal has a comment mentioning club catch. Regardless, I think the votes & number of clicks speak for themselves, so was definitely a useful post for a lot of people.

    • -2

      Potentially just referral spam?

      • +5

The fact I did not include (or even have) a referral link would suggest that you would be wrong.

I believe OzB added a random generator to my post. Nothing to do with me.

    • +3

      he's building street cred

  • +11

This is free for all accounts for a one time use.
this is in no way a deal it's something thats been free for as long as i can remember.

  • Can I still use the free trail if I have used it?

    • +1

Nope unless you make a new account with new payment method.

    • +1

      Create a new account.

      • +1

Yes, just hike up a new trail.

  • And use new credit/debit card for registration.

  • +6

I use nearly empty prepaid Visa cards for club catch.

    • Great idea, I have one lying around.

    • Good one, mate!

    • cotd used to make a $1 or so card authorisation. but in recent months, i've noticed an authorisation isn't made any more :)

    • Where do you get yours?

  • Maybe I would try using expired credit card and see if it works too.:)

    • It won't, otherwise it wouldn't be expired. You can open up a free account with almost any bank though and they'll send you a card.

  • +2

200 clicks, seems like this deal is pretty useful to enough people, have an upvote for the haters sake

    • +3

Cheers mate. This is why I posted it.
I guess if you are a COTD regular then this would seem to "always be available". However, this may be new news and helpful for some people.

  • +3

This is common information for the ozbargain veterans.
But maybe useful info for the noob.

    • +2

      Cheers mate.
I wasn't aware it was still available and I am sure some others are in the same boat.

  • +1

The trial has always been free. How is this a bargain?

  • +10

Always been free for a trial

    • -1

For the people who were aware of it.

I guess this post is not for you then and is for those who were not aware of it.

      • +3

So many posts from COTD state that you can use the free trial.

        • You seem to be correct. (Most appear to be from 2015)
But you would only know this only if you are opening these other posts, not just reading the heading.

(Though a couple of guys did mention it in their title about a year ago)

        • +1

@deal88: so let me get this straight. I see a post I might be interested in (let's say cheap asics kayano's), but because I see its from COTD, I decide not to click on the deal and read the post in its entirety.

Ozb veterans would know COTD have a free trial. Ozb casual users would click through to the deal.

Just my thoughts. Hence my down vote.

  • +2

Never knew about the trial. Just signed up and bought some stuff I needed with freight free. Thanks OP

  • Mate, you should SEARCH before post. If everyone post this FREE TRIAL once a day over 365 days a year then will make members pretty annoyed.

    • +1

      WORD

I FORGOT TO PUT CAPSLOCK OFF

        • +1

          Also word

    • +2

Deals are close to a year old, which aren't considered dupes 👍,maybe read the deal posting wiki if you don't want to annoy members 👍

    • +1

I did do a search and nothing came up.

Looks like most mentions of this free membership trial are hidden in posts of product deals. You would only read them if you actually opened up and read the deals.

If you just scan the headings of the deals you would not see any mention of the free trial.

  • -1

The MODS should just sort this type of post out and save the noobs from getting roasted by the veterans!

    • Or the veterans should post a link to when this specific deal was last posted. Still have not seen a proper link showing this specific deal that is not just hidden in another COTD product deal post.

And I did find the comment below from a year ago, so seems that this deal does actually change despite the "always available" comments above……..

I do agree that this deal was available, just not specifically posted here on OzB.

      tdw on 30/10/2015 - 02:38
@sneakydean: 30 days then 14 days then 7 days then back to 30 days….right before their "birthday" when it dropped down to 7 days. oh well. i have enough email accounts and credit/debit cards to start more trials when necessary

      • +2

Thanks OP - didn't know about this and just joined, saved a stack of cash. Ignore the haters - love your work x

        • Thanks mate, that is what it is all about.

Just remember to log in and cancel the automatic renewal.

  • +2

BEWARE: COTD has the worst returns policy.

    • Found them pretty good. Much better than OzSale

    • When did you use them? They were fine for me back in 2014.

  • +1

Guys, DO NOT FALL for this dodgy free trial.
I fell for this bullshit and lost $30. Although they claimed its free within 30 days but they actually charge your credit card in your first purchase. Last time, I purchased few items within 3 days, then I noticed they charged me $69 for membership, so i cancelled the membership just after 5 days and emailed for a refund, they refused full refund, only refunded me $39, pissed me off by saying you purchased 3 times, shipping $10 for each.
I still have email conversation with their representative, and can post it here if anyone needs it.

To Catchoftheday: I will follow on everyone post on ozbargain and make everyone be aware of your dodgy bullshit Free Membership Trial.

    Proof: Email from Aryen.

    Thank you for your response.

Upon checking your Catch of the Day account, your 30-day free trial was from 2016-06-14 to
    2016-07-13.

According to the Club Catch Terms and Conditions, if you do not cancel your trial subscription, after the 30 day trial period we will charge your credit card the subscription fee and you will become a full subscriber of Club Catch. Thus the $69 charge on 2016-07-14. https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/club-catch-terms#section-1

And according to our Club Catch Terms and Conditions, you may cancel your subscription for a full refund up to 60 days after you become a full member if you have not used any of your Club Catch benefits during this time. https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/club-catch-terms#section-1

However there are 3 orders processed after the $69 charge. Each of the order has free shipping applied to these which is a Club Catch benefit.

Thus the prorated refund of $39.15 to your credit card.
Apologies for any inconvenience and confusion caused on your end.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Kind regards,

    Aryen

So you waited until the trial turned into a full membership, made 3 purchases and then said you want your money back?

It's called 30-day-trial for a reason. The reason being it's only free for 30 days.

      • No, I didn't wait until the trial turn into a full membership. As I have mentioned above, I cancelled the membership just after 5 days I signed up. I signed up on 14/07, 5 days later I noticed they charged my card on the same date I signed up. Thats why i cancelled it and requested a refund.
This is (profanity)…annoying as he doesn't know what he was talking about or just deliberately acting like I cancelled after 30days, I still have the welcome to club catch email which was sent to me on 14/07 - I can post a screenshot of the welcome email if someone can advise me on how to post an image here.

        • Hmm, yeah that doesn't sound right.
All I can think of is that maybe you had the free trial before, maybe years ago and thus you were not eligible for it.

I can assure you, I've done this many times and it always worked fine for me.

        • I think the problem with this bs offer is this small print in this so called free offer. This is a cut and paste of what u have wrote above:

"And according to our Club Catch Terms and Conditions, you may cancel your subscription for a full refund up to 60 days after you become a full member if you have not used any of your Club Catch benefits during this time. https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/club-catch-terms#section-1"

Sounds like what they are saying is u can have the free trial only if u don't use the free trial… Sounds logical LOL

    • +1

@superjv11 , did you make the purchase within 30 days ?? From the email it sounds like you made the purchase between 30 & 60 days.

        • Thanks for replying. Seemed a bit too good to be true. I'll give it a miss based on what your saying

    • tbh they were pretty good about it, refunding it prorata

  • This isn't a deal and I'll be just as mad when someone reposts it in 365 days time and say not a dupe.

  • I don't thin this spittle be a deal at all if I'm reading the terms and conditions correctly. Read the terms and condition 1.3. It says you can have a full refund only if you have not used any of the membership benefits. Yet 1.1 says you can use all the benefits for free in the 30 days??? I don't get it am I reading this wrong or are they contradicting each other…

    https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/club-catch-terms#section-1

  • Just saved $17.95 postage and will cancel if they don't have anything else I need when I go through the rest of the site. Thankyou.
