    But but but bootloop…

Anyone know the statistics of G5's failure rate and whether a certain batch of them are affected?

Think I'll wait another year before I get this, LG G2 is still kicking without any issues.

my G4 just died last week :(

    • so is my G3. I've installed Fulmics rom and got a bigger battery, still a beauty. I am not sure if my consumerism will let it survive the next generation though

    • My LG G3 is still fine if that helps.

I have had a nightmare run with the LG G4. Two units had bluetooth and WIFI die under warranty. The first replacement was straight forward. The second time was a nightmare involving a 5 1/2 week wait and changes to my plan that I did not authorize. I bought locally at JB Hi Fi. My second replacement is working fine for now but with all the units that have boot looped or had other issues. Setting it up was a different story. Because LG doesn't do adopted storage and it came with Marshmallow I can't put the same number of apps I had on previous models. (I have tried a workaround to force adopted storage now but it's flaky). I have spent much more time setting up this phone than using it. Which is a real shame. It's a nice phone when it's working, especially the camera.

I previously had a Galaxy S4 which worked flawlessly. Prior to that Acer Liquid Metal and before that a series of Nokias. I have also a few cheap phones bought from here. I have only had problems with 2. One I dropped in the bath the first time I bathed my son. (Can't blame the manufacturer) and one developed a dodgy screen. In other words I have had more trouble with my G4 than all the rest of my phones over the last 2 decades combined.

There are some reports of LG G5 boot loop. They aren't rampant like the G4 at this stage. But buyer beware. Personally I won't touch LG again.

i'm with you. I think mine just got bootlooped - basically after an OTA update, it restarted and then got stuck in the LG boot screen and turned off. Now it won't even turn on. Have sent it back to Ebay seller qd_au. Lets see how it goes.

Shame really, because it was a great phone!

      • +1

Good luck with that. My Aust post tracking said they rejected the parcel and sent back to Depot…..
Have been informed they might St receive it back, before the 12 month period.(September)

I got that bootloop after an update as well. However I wiped v10f rom (5.1) back in through LGUP, and the phone came back to life again. Never update to Marshmallow to my G4 and never going to touch LG again.

Not.wise to get a grey inport.of LG phone due.to.bad reputation

    • qd_au handle warranty locally and ship it overseas for you

the G4 is an awesome and unique phone. Mine has not had any issues for over a year now i think

      • My G4 boot looped over a month go.
it takes over a week for qd_au to reply to you on eBay. Still waiting for it to be fixed…
no more "Low Grade" for me

        • qd au responded within 24 hrs and sorted everything out painfree for me

till i realised the fault was on my dumbass end

Almost sounds like youre just unlucky. dont buy lotto this week

V20 is announced tomorrow, might suss it out and hopefully LG has learned it's lesson with this messy boot loop business….

    • yup i too am willing to give LG another go, loved my G4 until it died. Think V20 is going to be the goods
just depends on the price point .

  • Great phone with flaws
    non-rootable H860 model
GPS may play up from time to time due to a hardware design issue

Other than that, great phone especially at this price level!
Great camera, great dual lens (like having a M4/3 camera with 2 lens in the pocket and don't even need to change lens!)
Great screen and okay battery life
Strong performance, dual SIM and Micro SD expansion capability.
Simply don't buy if you are heavy GPS user or Pokemon Go player.

  • My G3 is unmounting microsd cards randomly after running 2000+ hours without reboot. Not sure if the reboot cylce is related.

  • DO NOT GET THIS. WHEN YOU GET BOOT LOOP YOU WILL REGRET IT.

    • +6

DO NOT GET THE GALAXY NOTE 7. WHEN YOU GET IT, IT WILL BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN AND YOU WILL REGRET IT.

      • +1

Boot loop sounds a lot cheaper and more appealing than a burnt down house!

      • Are you being serious? If you had an Galaxy Note 7, you would not return it?

      • +2

Difference is customer service.. There is no recall from LG. Samsung a bit better but customer service is still poor in general.

      • +1

DO NOT GET IPHONE IT WILL BEND AND LOSE RECEPTION IF YOU HOLD IT WRONG AND YOU WILL REGRET IT

        • Yeah, I agree with that too. You shouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on phones that are known for not being able to switch on, bend and explode. Not a smart investment and therefore not a bargain no matter what company you shill for.

        • -1

@Orpheus: the flaw in your logic is that you believe past performance is an indicator of future

        • @furythree: What are you on about? The current LG G5 has the boot looping problem. Are you saying if people buy this phone, it won't get it?

        • -2

@Orpheus: yes cause its still not every phone

the samsung battery issue actually affected like a few every thousand units which is statistically ALOT of phones. thus making it worthy of a recall

the bootloop issue was just inconvenient enough and difficult enough to be unable for an end user to troubleshoot. but statistically not common enough for a recall. They did own up to it being a legitimate issue though

The G5 hasnt had that many issues

The loudest feedback you will hear will always be the negative ones. Doesnt mean its the statistical majority

        • @furythree: it doesn't have to be every phone. The fact is that it's a ticking Time bomb and you never know when youre phone is going to die. My G4 bootlooped randomly and now it's a useless brick. If this was $50 it might be worth the gamble as a backup phone, but for $500 you would expect a phone to not have such a potentially fatal flaw. Add the fact that this is a grey import.. well, good luck with that. Manufacturers should be getting their shit together for these so called premium products, and we shouldn't reward them by giving them more money. Stop trying to justify it.

        • @furythree:
I think the majority of G4's bootlooped and that's why LG is getting such a bad name now. Mine bootlooped and I'm sure many ozbargainers who bought the G4 last sep/oct have the same problem.

I really think they should've recalled it, but after all bootloop isn't as serious as an exploding phone that can potentially be deadly.

        • -1

          @Orpheus: you got a lemon

i get it, whinge whinge whinge

        • @furythree: Wow, you are delusional. I hope you work for LG or LG is paying you for shilling for them this much!

  • +1

The G4 was great phone. Unfortunately for many it had the terrible bootloop issue. I wouldn't want to chance my luck again.

  • been using G5 over a months, So Far Superb~ loving it, Dual Sim + Dual Camera

Remote Area Surcharge: $25.00 WTF, I am only 160km from Sydney. I will pass

    • To be honest… I think anywhere more than 50km is fairly remote, let alone 160km. And you are about the same distance from Newcastle as well so…

I have the G4. A great phone if I never knew about the bootloop issue.
Its the cellular equivalent of the Ford Pinto.

if it was under $500 delivered on eBay i'd be tempted…not keen to go through their own site.

  • My wife's LG G4 started to make a high pitch noise when recording video.

Interesting enough when I reset it to factory default, it resolved the issue, but then when I restored the settings again (using LG Backup app), the issue reappears….something wrong with the app for sure….

    • It's screaming in terror because it knows it'll boot loop one day and it doesn't want to die! ;-)

      • +1

Maybe it doesn't like her videos. What is she filming? :/

        • … or she was just trying to make a vertical video.

        • @yoba:

Vertical videos are hard to do when you're horizontal.

        • Any movie, from my muscly legs to bulk biceps :p

    • sitting back with popcorn in hand…lol

    • HAHAHA, you responses are hilarious! This is the reason why I joined Ozb, you guys made my days

Don't buy any LG GX. You will get the boot loop96 and/or ghos t touch problem eventually.

    • The number and space were not typed by me but by my LG G4.

      • Please beware you would get this too on some Samsung galaxy phones. The most stable I found so far is using CM or stock android.
