Just elaborating on the info OP has provided:

    • The T&C for earning up to the 15,000 Qantas Points can be found here in the Amex referrer wiki. That is, by using a referrer:

You receive 12,500 Qantas Points when you spend $300 in the first 3 months of Card Membership and an additional 2,500 Qantas Points when you first spend on selected Qantas products and services in Australia.

Application without a referrer will earn up to 7,500 points.

    • More details about this Qantas Discovery card can be found here.

    • If interested to know the reward rates (%) of this card, whether redeeming cash-equivalent rewards or flights, my recent comment here includes this info.

    Hope this is of help.

    • My comment above might seem slightly out-of-context now, since the original post has been amended. Clarification: 15,000 points was stated in the initial post title and body. My comment was trying to clarify the 15,000 points mentioned. (It has now been amended to 7,500 points, which is points if applying directly, without referrer).

Also, the link to the card at Amex site was not initially in post, hence its inclusion to provide more info.

  • Hi I am just researching credit cards to join for bonus points and such as I am now earning money for the first time in a long time, enough to apply for pretty much any credit card on the market. I only have a 28 degrees card

If I apply for this card, will I still be able to get bonus point and offers for other Amex cards on the market in the future like this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/261537 ?

I don't mind Qantas points but from my research I have figured I mostly want to earn Krisflyer miles.

    • You can hold 2 Amex credits cards plus 1 Amex charge card.
Amex generally honour points even if you already own one of their cards.
Having said that, I'd hardly rate a 15k sign on bonus if your goal is to collect points through churn..

      • What is Amex charge card?

      • You can hold more than 2 Amex credit cards. They may approve or deny you for any number based on their evaluation of your credit risk.

        • Make sense, I just googled, and while I could not confirm for Aus specifically, a number of US articles already mentioned 4.

    • Hi I am just researching credit cards to join for bonus points

Fee-free cards generally do not give very huge bonuses. Some of the other non fee-free offerings give much more bonus points.

will I still be able to get bonus point and offers for other Amex cards on the market …

From what some have said, Amex do not seem to be strictly enforcing the "no bonus for cardholder" rule (see here). However, my understanding is each person can have two Amex-issued credit cards at one time. Not counting bank-issued Amex credit cards.

I have figured I mostly want to earn Krisflyer miles.

This is probably not the right card then. You probably should look at one that earns either Amex points or Velocity points, so that they can be converted to Krisflyer miles easily. Among fee-free cards, the other two, Amex Essential and Velocity Escape will provide easy transfer to Krisflyer points. Both end up about $1 spend for 0.75 Krisflyer mile, if my memory serves me well. More info about them here.

    • Check out the website pointhacks.com.au - I signed up for the westpac altitude promo, next I will do this one…. my new hobby.

      • Haha quite a profitable hobby! :-)

  • meh 15K points for doing pretty much nothing is good to me.

AMEX's sign up and cancellation process is so easy as well.

  • This isn't a new deal.

  • The minimum spend to receive the bonus points is now $750 over 3 months.

  • As a heads-up for those with this card, I just posted this in the forum: AmEx Qantas Discovery - Change to Earn for Spend on Government Bodies on 1 June 2017.

So, basically the earn rate for this will be halved.
