        • @Make it so: do you still need to ask the obvious? If you ever bought the phone from this seller, check About screen to see what rom you have, MIUI Global 7.3.0. This is NOT official ROM. I am not gonna repeat what I have posted before in the thread, just go and search yourself.

There is no OTA update for these ROMs of course because it is not from Xiaomi. These ROM has been tampered with hence the spyware risk. Do google search yourself !!!

        • @samehada: If you read what I wrote above, you will see that I did buy a phone form this seller, and that I have reported that it was an official global ROM which accepted OTA updates just fine.

What is the point of posting to this thread that a different model phone from a different seller had malware? Just like your previous comment where you say that "All these phones […] comes with hacked custom ROM". You are spreading misinformation.

        • @Make it so: I don't comment on their new shipment because I have not received it yet, but ALL phones I bought from this sellers together with other sellers has non-official ROM installed.

ALL models I bought from Dreami (Mi Max, Mi 5, Redmi Note 3) came with hacked ROM. All members who bought from them from previous deals can check and confirm that. I am still waiting for my last order, but even if they sold with ROM like you said, they may still ship out stocks with hacked ROM. Not all their listings have stated OTA Update support.

Even the latest shipment from Goldway comes with hacked ROM. You just based on 1 phone bought from this seller which doesn't prove anything. This sellers has sold hundreds of phones and it all comes with hacked ROMs. Don't you even see their listing has just been updated with OTA Updates. Many of their other listings still don't get updated yet.

Just to be clear, I have never said that their ROM has spyware. I just said there are RISK. I am not arguing with you anymore if you can't even interpret what I said.

No they can't - for the latest batch they are reporting clean ROM's

You just based on 1 phone bought from this seller which doesn't prove anything.

No I didn't - I based it off countless users reporting clean global ROMs

Just to be clear, I have never said that their ROM has spyware

          Yes, you implied it above.

Stop making sensationalist generalisations, read what you and others write properly, and nobody will argue with you.

        • @Make it so: I have never implied anything. All my post about these Chinese sellers I have clearly stated that. My post is about the risk of Chinese sellers with tampered ROM.

I have clearly stated in previous comments about this seller and clearly stated there is no spyware in their hacked ROM that has been reported yet.

And the relevance of that to this post is….?

[…] clearly stated there is no spyware in their hacked ROM that has been reported yet.

The ROM this seller provides now is not hacked. You need to stop saying this - it is incorrect.

        • @Make it so: Their Mi Max still comes with hacked ROM, same as 3S. All their Mi phones that only release in China still comes with hacked ROM.

  • Just received it today. Came with MIUI 8. Do I need to reflash? Sorry I am a newbie.

    • WTF? Mine came with MIUI 7. Also, Australia locale was unavailable. :( I reflashed it again with MIUI 7 Global rom.

Easy to reflash anyway… had driver issues at first. Anyone flashing should disable drivers signing temporarily if working on Win8 or higher. And use a x64 OS. x86 caused a brick at first.

      • Australia locale unavailable for me too. I ordered a bit late so may be that's why.

Australian locale is available to none!

The rumour is they don't market to Australia due to our tight IP restrictions, so we "shouldn't" have any.

          @mudguppy1:
Flash to a Custom ROM to get Australia Location..
Exodus ROM has been recommended on Whingepool.
Haven't had much time with it yet, but looks the goods from the short time I had last night.
