    • I brought a redmi 3 from here. google play store/services stopped working after a few days. I think they installed a prehacked version. You should flash it with a clean rom after you get it. Just resetting didnt help.

Have been looking to buy this for a long time. Cheapest I could find on ebay is ~ $210 AUD after 10% CTENOFF CODE

This one brings it down to under AU$200 if you use the current Ebay voucher (based on xe.com conversion rates which should be pretty close to the 28 Degrees rate).
Add in Cashrewards (fingers crossed it tracked) and it'll be even cheaper.

AU $206.35 with the above UK version of the link using paypal mastercard.
just ordered! lets see how it goes….

Nice! Hopefully others can get in quick.

        • received the phone yesterday from this seller. very quick shipping!! they must have a local distribution point.
Out of the box everything was in english and Play Store was loaded with MIUI Global 7.4.18.0. my guess is that this is a hacked global rom. will try and flash this to the official rom today.

        • @hpkv:

Flashed it without any issues following instructions (fastboot rom) posted in the above link (http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html)

Device is currently running Global 7.3 Stable; 7.3.7.0(LHOMIDD)

Thank you OP for the deal and the others who helped with posting the above link! Phone rocks!

        • @hpkv: hey mate what city you are? Haven't received mine in Melbourne

        • @hpkv:
          Also received mine.
          Super quick shipping!

Same ROM, and hacked bootloader. Nothing obviously "nasty" about it but can never be too sure, so flashed it using fastboot method to China Developer ROM, Rooted and then flashed TWRP and Exodus ROM…
Left it running overnight downloading all my apps and hopefully will transfer files across tonight and will be up and running with my new $200 phone tomorrow.

I bought from this exact phone from this seller on Friday at 4pm. Paid US $17.49 to ship with DHL, and it arrived Monday 9.30am. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I wasn't prepared to wait 20-40 days for the free shipping option especially for a $200+ item.
Great phone and buying experience. The seller installed MIUI 8, and included a decent enough TPU case and plastic screen protector. I'd definitely recommend this.

    • My free shipping for this phone arrived within less than 2 weeks.

      • +1

That's pretty good. Aliexpress sure knows how to cover their asses on the shipping estimates. The DHL estimate was 8-16 days. Under promise. Over deliver.

Does anyone use CyanogenMod with this phone?- is there active ongoing development?

    • +1

i am using Resurrection Remix ROM, no bugs so far, getting very good battery life as well

    • Using an unofficial cm13 rom atm. Had an issue with the camera but all I had to do was flash a zip from the forum and good as new. Havent found anything that doesnt work yet. cm13 is on nightlies at the moment so hopefully not too long until a official stable release comes out

    • Yep, I'm on CM13. Check XDA

  • best Android phone? not sure, best Android os? sure

  • Is aliexpress any good?

    • +2

Much like ebay, depends on the seller. Mixed reviews on how they handle disputes, but never had a problem from my end.

      • Oh OK, I didn't realise it was that type of setup. I think I'll pass.

        • should clarify, Dreammi seems to be a reputable seller.

    Cheaper here: ====> AU$203.75
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252491334517?_trksid=p2060353.m14…
The original price is GBP 129.29, equivalent to AU$229.26 (paypal conversion rate as per 9/8).
With the 10% ebay deal (CTENOFF still active until 10/8) the price become AU$206.33
With cash reward 1.25% the price: AU$203.75
This is the cheapest price I have ever seen so far.
I've tried to post on separate deal, but the quantity only 8.
Not sure what ROM the phone come with
I bought car RC from the same seller, delivered less than 2 weeks to metro sydney

    • Great price indeed. Not sure we needed it pasted again, it's a few lines up posted by @thanhliemduong - he deserves the cred. Great to see some ebay deals coming in for this phone :D

  • Does this manufacturer provide monthly security updates?

  • Could I put sd card in this moblie to make it 128g?

    • +2

Yes. I currently use the Samsung EVO Plus 128GB micro sd card without a problem :)

      • Did you buy from ebay or aliexpress pls?

        • +3

Aliexpress using this exact seller. Check out the sellers feedback, there are over 100 Australian reviews that rate them highly.

      • Do you know if your microsd card is formatted as ntfs or fat32? I'm using a Samsung 64gb class 10 xc1 and it only recognises it when formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS

        • FAT32. I don't think android supports NTFS natively.

        • Ah ok. Thanks

  • I'm thinking of selling my Nexus 5X and getting this instead. Does anyone know if Windows 10 can be flashed on to this? The ebay listings keep talking about Android/Windows.

    • +1

This doesn't support Windows. Not sure why the ebay listings mention it.

As a warning to everyone, the price for these phones on eBay that has been posted is alarming. There is eBay fee + Paypal fees and if there price is too cheap I am worrying they are recouping money from elsewhere.

All these phones are Chinese version and they comes with hacked custom ROM "Global 7.3.2.0 Stable". This is NOT official ROM but a hacked ROM based on official one. You can search further on MIUI forums.

There are 3 big main sellers on Aliexpress, I have bought from all of them this is the review.
    - Dreami: (The one in this post) Biggest sellers on Aliexpress, their price is slightly higher but the inclusion is good, free screen protector + TPU Case. The phone bought from this sellers have both IMEIs intact (IMEI 1 & IMEI 2 are NOT the same).

    • Goldway: Also big seller, they only include screen protector, they also installed hacked ROM "Global 7.3". Those who supplied them the phone installed the hacked ROM in a way that it damage the EFS and wiped off IMEI 2. Both IMEI number are the same which is NOT right.

    • Xiaomi Authorized store: The one in the post above that sell the B28 unknown version 2GB+16GB, their name is misleading and dodgy. They have photo of Authorised Reseller from Xiaomi Hong Kong, yet their shop is in Shenzhen and they are selling the same Chinese models as other sellers with hacked ROM installed. Again IMEI 2 has been lost.

All these hacked ROM can NOT be updated at all either via fastboot mode, or recovery mode to any of the official Xiaomi ROM. The ONLY way to do a clean flash is request bootloader unlock permission from Xiaomi then do fastboot Flash with official ROM (either Chinese or Global ROM).

Dreami has recently advertised a Global Official RMN3 with OTA update, I am still waiting for my order to see what ROM they install. I really suspect it is a new hacked ROM. The ONLY way to get official ROM is unlock bootloader which Xiaomi has made it personal request now and can't be done on mass scale.

    • +1

The one I received from Goldway recently has 2 apps pre-installed in the hacked ROM "9Apps" and "Yandex" browser. This really concern me because this is a real security risk. Hacked ROM means it has been tampered with by unknown party. This hacked ROM is not on xda as far as I know of.

This means they can integrate malware or spyware and firmware level which can't be removed. This has been done before. There is even a Chinese company that distributed spyware to display ads. There are just many cases these criminal group and even mainstream Chinese company distribute virus and spyware for financial gain through Chinese phones.

If you remember "philips" brand, they have android phone model "s388" with a virus in the firmware, someone has slipped it into the firmware at the factory.

The security risk are real so be very worry with your phone because nowadays ALL your personal information and financial information is on your phone. It is even more dangerous than computer virus because people never think that their information was stolen from their mobile device.

    • +4

All great information. The last bit is incorrect. You can update to the Global ROM with a locked bootloader. I have done it on both phones purchased from these guys. If the miui forums weren't down right now, I'd post you the guide. It involves entering EDL mode to flash the fashboot ROM. Try googling that. It's completely safe, doesn't alter recovery and is the recommended method. There are also reviews from a few months back in regards to this Global ROM confirming that it is the official version. I personally requested to have my packages untouched (China Stable ROM) and updated to Global myself. I'm not keen on anyone doing this for me.

      • +2

Yep I did the same, the link is here: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

      • +2

Oh I forgot about EDL mode. Thanks for reminding, I will try to see if this reserve both IMEIs

I forgot to mention, the phone bought from "Xiaomi Authorized store" has bootloader "unlock" but this is hacked unlock not official unlock and bootloader will be locked when you flash official ROMs.

I wonder why they don't use this EDL method to flash official Global ROM but choose to install the hacked ROM instead? This makes the hacked firmware installation really smell fishy.

The hacked ROM prevent normal update which can expose user to any security bugs of the hacked ROM or Android OS.

        • +1

          I stand corrected!!!

I just used EDL flashing on a locked bootloader for Chinese ROM which has been flashed with hacked "Global 7.3 ROM". The phone has hacked ROM "Global 7.3" installed by Goldway. I have successfully flashed official Chinese ROM on it.

But now EDL flash to Global ROM FAILED, this is what I experienced before. I need to use fastboot reboot-edl to boot back to EDL mode to flash Chinese ROM again to make the phone working.

I will try again on EDL flashing to official Global ROM from "hacked Global ROM" when I receive the next phone.

CONCLUSION: You CAN NOT flash (either recovery mode, fastboot mode or EDL mode) official Global ROM onto locked bootloader Mi Phone that has Chinese ROM originally. This maybe the reason why these Chinese sellers install hacked Global ROM

The proper way to flash it is requesting bootloader unlock permission, then unlock your bootloader and flash your device. There is a few rules you should do to make sure that you don't have the very annoying error "Account on device is different…"

        • +1

          @samehada:

Are you sure? I flashed the global rom onto an unopened standard using the method linked above. I.e. I flashed the global rom (not recovery) over the factory rom without receiving an unlock code…

      • Would there be any point in requesting ones bought on ebay that they don't open the package? As samehada has said, it seems like people won't be able to update to an offical xiaomi ROM since they come with the hacked 7.3 Global, so the only alternative would be custom XDA ROMS? Would a custom XDA ROM definitely remove dodgy spyware, if indeed some were hidden in the "Global 7.3.2 Hacked ROM?

        • +2

As stated above, you can use EDL mode to flash the official ROM. The other way is to request official bootloader unlock and use fastboot mode flash which is simpler than EDL mode.

Regarding hacked firmware, they have sold millions of these and no report regarding spyware yet but you never know, better be safe than sorry.

The phone supplied to these Chinese sellers has been firmware upgraded probably by a big hidden supplier and that is the danger. Even if they give you original phone, it is Chinese ROM and it doesn't come with Google Play and only has Chinese and English as language pack. You need to install Google Play yourself.

        • @samehada:

Thanks for the heads up. how easy is it to get an unlock code from Xiomi?

        • +1

@hpkv: Super easy, you need to
          1. login to Mi account on the phone
          2. go to http://en.miui.com/unlock
          - login to that site and create forum user name
          - go back to that link and now there is a form to submit
          - Reason for unlock: you can write something like "I want to install developer ROM" or "I want root access on my phone"

          1. make sure the phone number that you used in the form is NOT linked or login to Mi account on other Mi phone.

          2. After about 3-4days, you will receive the sms to confirmation and you can download the MiFlashUnlock tools to unlock bootloader.

        • @samehada:

Can I request the code by using my mobile no as this for the Mrs. Or it has to be the number attached to the phone??

        • @hpkv: better not, you should use the number that is used on the phone.

    • +1

I got my RMN3 from Dreami based on this deal and it appears to be a clean global ROM. It accepts OTA updates, and there are no weird apps installed. Are you sure your statement is correct about "all these phones come with hacked custom ROM"?
I don't know how they updated it, but am glad they saved me the hassle.

      • I am in no way implied that the custom ROM that is put on these phones have any nasty spyware yet. You can check the ROM version you have on MIUI to see if it is one of the official one released but judging from the way Xiaomi ROM works and the way the flash work, I don't believe it is official ROM.

Even EDL mode gives error when you flash Global ROM with locked bootloader, there is no way for them to flash official ROM but a modified one only and as long as it is tampered with, there is security risk. Especially these ROMs are never officially released on XDA or big forums and you don't know who or which groups are making these ROMs.

As on the latest phone I received I saw 2 apps which is not on the offical Global ROM, it is just a Browser app and another Chinese apps store I believe, but this means that any apps can be pre-installed and if there is someone working there with ill-intention, malware can also be installed. That is just the risk.

And if it is integrated at ROM level, factory reset will not be able to remove it. So for me to be on the safe side, I reflash myself to an official trustworthy source that I download from so that I know what I put on my phone.

Of course even sourceforge was hacked so there is still chance that MIUI was also hacked, but that chance of happening is slim.

        • I understand your point about the risks. But if a ROM is able to accept OTA updates (mine has updated itself to "MIUI Global 7.5 Stable - 7.5.3.0), doesn't that imply it's a proper offical ROM?

        • @Make it so: If it is the official ROM as you can see on MIUI then yes.

There is actually a way for them to do it without unlocking bootloader. Someone has posted instruction for a hack to get bootloader unlocked on MIUI forum, it will be re-locked when flashed with official ROM. So what they can do is use the hacked unlock, then flash with official Global ROM.

I am still waiting for my new order from Dreami to see what ROM they used. As a rule of thumb, all phones sold in China only have Chinese ROM installed, so unless it is HK stock which cost more or they used new method to install official Global ROM without having to request bootloader unlock permission from Xiaomi.

I guess many ppl complained about not being able to get OTA update that is why they changed it.

But some models that are not released elsewhere, they will only have custom ROM. One example is Mi Max 64/128GB, official release is with MIUI 8, but the ROM I got is MIUI 7 Global 7.4. There is no way it is official ROM.

The same concept applied for Redmi 3S which has no global release. So now why we need Global ROM?

People have wrong perception about Global ROM, to be honest I prefer to use Chinese Developer ROM which has built-in Root access. I can install Google Play by using "Google_Installer.apk" and your ROM will be the same.

Chinese ROM only has English and Chinese language option, so if you always use English menu than it makes no difference. Just moved all Chinese apps to a folder that you don't use, install Google Keyboard and you are sorted.

        • @samehada: Thanks for the info.
Yes, I'm aware of the dodgy ROM's out there. Helped someone buy a Redmi Note 2, and had to help change the ROM to a proper global one, followed by a factory reset (because changing the ROM did not remove the dodgy adds, which I thought was weird).

I would not have bought my Redmi Note 3 if people here hadn't reported that it was a proper global ROM accepting OTA updates.

I didn't want to risk the Chinese ROM in case I got stuck. There are so many conflicting instructions and opinions about what works and what doesn't…

        • "Even EDL mode gives error when you flash Global ROM with locked bootloader"

Sorry to bring this up again, but this isn't the case. If you post up the errors you've been having flashing the global rom (here or in the forum) I'm sure someone can help you through the process. From my understanding (and perhaps there are situations where this is not the case) a new ROM can be flashed to the phone even if the OS won't load. That is one of the proposed cases for using the EDL mode highlighted here: http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

Quite a few people have used this guide successfully to flash the official global ROM to locked bootloaders. It's possible that the problem is on your side.

        • @s732: If you looked in the link above, the 4th post is the error. EDL flash doesn't always work, you get the "not enough storage …" error but the true reason is because some area can't be written on.

Fastboot flash will give error of locked bootloader. And I have experienced the failed flash which has made the phone lost the 2nd IMEI. I can rewrite IMEI number back using QPST and QXDM tool but these tools are very dangerous, you can completely brick your phone, so you'd better know what you are doing with these.

I have tested to enable the LTE Band 28 on the standard version Redmi Note 3 and have damaged 2 phones which I can't turn back 4G LTE on at all.

Like I said, the proper way to flash and 100% works is getting your bootloader unlocked. I can tell you that I have flashed not just 1 phone but more than 10+ phones and not just this Redmi Note 3 Pro. I have used EDL mode to flash Windows 10 on Mi 4 before.

        • @samehada:

          OK, thanks for clarifying.

So you received the not enough storage error when trying to flash the global rom to a rn3p running the factory rom? Could you recover it by following the steps from the mentioned post? I assume you're using a 64bit pc?

        • @s732: Once you got that error, basically your ROM is now corrupted. You won't be able to get back to your MIUI to run "adb reboot edl" anymore. EDL mode is hanged now and you need to reboot the phone to get back to EDL mode.

The problem now is that you can only go to fastboot mode and because of locked bootloader, you can NOT use fastboot to flash. The only way to flash back Chinese ROM is EDL mode. Original fastboot.exe can't send "reboot-edl" command, you need to either hex edit it or download the patched fastboot.exe which has reboot-edl command to get back to EDL mode.

Once you get back to EDL mode, flash with official Chinese ROM and the phone is back alive.

All of these are not for someone just follow instruction from the forum, you need to know what you are doing to solve problem once things doesn't work. You need to understand what is EDL, fastboot mode, recovery mode, bootloader. If you have no idea what I am talking about above, I suggest you to read more on XDA and MIUI forums to understand those concept and know what you are doing better before you brick your phone.

If you don't know what you are doing, you just bricked your phone and don't expect warranty on this from sellers because it is your fault. They may not know you have corrupted the ROM but Xiaomi warranty service technician may reject your warranty claim.

So my advice to you is do it at your own risk and you'd better know what you are doing. Things work for someone may not work for everyone else.

P.S: About the phone that I flashed, I have requested for bootloader unlock, once I got it. It is much simpler way to flash, you do not need MiFlash software at all. After bootloader unlock, just go to commandline and type "flash_all.bat" and job done.

        • @samehada:

Ok good to hear you sorted it out. I heard you could time sending the edl command before the bootloop starts or won't that work in this case?

Yep I totally agree about doing this at your own risk.

        • @s732: you need to use special "fastboot.exe" which has been modified to reboot into edl mode and that is only work with phones that has bootloader support that command "reboot-edl"

          http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/gui…

  • On AliExpress, the phone usually retains for US$168-169 these days from what I've seen, so this is $0.27 cheaper. The gold version is usually more expensive though, so if you're after that you save more.

Don't forget to apply the $2 coupon (you may be able to apply both the $5 off + $2 off, but am unsure).

Note that the seller charges US$17.49 for DHL shipping, if that's what you're after, whilst most other sellers charge around US$11-12. Also their add-ons (case / screen protector) are fairly expensive, so you're better off buying them separately.

    • +1

$2 off if you buy more than $299 from them.
      Not Worth it

That is Redmi 3 Pro with inferior smaller 5" screen and slower CPU.

  • Is this a good phone to replace my Boot-Looped LG G4?

    • For battery life - yes, for camera - no. G4 got one of the best manual phone camera.

      • Yes but I cant handle their bootloop risk.I was very dissapointed with this issue
Do you reckon V10 and Nexus 5x Have the same Bootloop issue>

I like the G4 removable battery which make me dont worry about battery life at all (Got 2 spare batteries and charging dock, perfect for pokemonGO).
Battery empty just swap it with fully charged one, Done. No need to carry on PowerBank in your hand and plug it on (if you plug your port too much it will eventually be unresponsive),Very inconvenience.
THeir SD card slot is superb.

  • i am very tempted to get one of these to upgrade my gs4 due to the specs but just to be clear,
How easy is it to get a unlock code from xiaomi? and once you do get it, can you only flash xiaomi roms or are you free to flash whatever the heck u want forever?

  • Just curious to find out if B28 will be helpful or not i.e. I currently have a B28 phone, is there any way to find which Band do i currently connect to.

  • hrm. No standard option left? each colour greys out unless I opt for add orig film case.

    • Yep same issue waiting to see if hopefully they restock the standalone ones. I want the bloody grey one.

    • Just got the dark grey in standard but it went out of stock. I think they restock options randomly.

Mine just arrived yesterday, ordered from the Goldway AliExpress 01/08/2016. Arrived 08/08/2016 using DHL service. Total cost $259.32 using 28 degrees card. With 7% cashrewards cashback, brings it down to $241.17 delivered for the Gray/Black version.

Was a bit sceptical as its my first chinese phone. Upgrading from a LG G3, must say so far so good, the phone is a bit taller and heavier due to the metallic body. Phone runs smooth, feel premium-ish and finger print scanner works a charm.

Running fine with Google Play out of the Box, MIUI Global 7.3 Stable, with OTA update to 7.3.7.

Might root the phone tonight, as wanting to change the DPI, as everything looks huge. I've reduced the font to extra small which helps a little. Not sure if I want to use custom rooms yet, don't want to to risk battery issues/performance issues straight out the box.

The main gripe so far was that I couldn't choose Australia as the region when setting up the phone. I chose Singapore, which I don't think really matters anyway.

So far so good, quite happy for the price! and it has FM radio which was a bonus.

Speedtest results on Telstra 4G prepaid – Melbourne server

    55 to 62 mbps down and 10 to 15 mbp/s up

Update: After 2 days usage. 8am start at 100%, with medium usage, battery at 59% at 11pm. Pretty good in my opinion

    • thanks. you are considering changing the global rom to the official global rom? if do please do post the results here.

  • Hey, I recently got one of these phones from a similar deal, and I've tried every single possible way(other than edl to flash it) and unlock the boothloader. I even requested an for permission from xiaomi to unlock the phone, and yet, the unlocking app just flashes an error. Can anyone help me?

    • "(other than edl to flash it)"

Just follow the link above for edl. It looks a bit ott but if you read through it completely before you start and then go through it step by step it's not very difficult imo.

      • I just tried to flash it using the EDL method, still does not work, the flasher spouts an error that says com3 can not be read halfway through the flashing

        • Do you have links for which phone you have and which ROM you were trying to flash?

        • I had this error once, from memory a complete reboot of the PC fixed it. Try Google the error, I got passed it though and managed to complete the flash.

  • Would easily buy if there was Dark Grey in stock

  • It is already happened, phone comes with bonus malware

    • Different phone, different seller(s)…

      • the risk is real, you never know. Mi Max also comes with hacked Global ROM like Redmi Note 3, so there is no difference there.

        • But is there evidence yet that this seller (for this deal) sells phones with hacked ROMs?
