Course begins: August 30th 2016
What is the Understanding Dementia MOOC?
The University of Tasmania's Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Understanding Dementia, is an easily accessible 9 week online course that builds upon the latest in international research on dementia. It's free and anyone can enrol.
The ageing of human populations across the globe has contributed to dementia being identified as one of the public health issues of the 21st century. The MOOC curriculum addresses this health issue by drawing upon the expertise of neuroscientists, clinicians and dementia care professionals from both within the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, and beyond.
Since 2013, 70,000 people have enrolled in the course from 170 countries

So if I forget the 2nd class, does that mean I pass, since I understand what it's like?

    • +2

You wouldn't, because you forgot to enrol in the first place. Can't pass without enrolling.

    • +1

Even if you complete the course you won't remember to collect your certificate anyway.

    • +1

You will need to enroll in the next round for the preventing dementia MOOC. It's already started so you will have to remember to enroll next term

Worth mentioning also that the Utas UPP is entirely free. It's a great starting point for anyone who doesn't want to pay for a cert 2 in IT or a bridging maths unit.

          How much will it cost?
You are not required to pay fees under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) for this
course. This means that your costs will be limited to the following:
 Personal spending on items such as paper, copying, postage – around $75.00 per semester.
 Text books. How many books you require and what they will cost will depend on the units
you study and whether you are able to obtain second-hand copies. See individual unit
outlines for more information. Text book and unit reader sales are handled by the University
          Coop Bookshop and UniPrint.
Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY is available to eligible students who are accepted into this
          course.

          Maybe a rat

Every time I pay my professional memberships & registrations I sure do smell a rat…

        Continuing Professional Development

      • Yes that's true. Many other ways to gain free CPD. Read work related books and write a reflection, keep a record of boring meetings you go to, etc…

        • Depends on your profession & rego bodies of course, some boards cap points for certain activities. Plus, sometimes it's nice to spread them across disciplines & CPD types, especially if (like me) you have multiple registrations & it's transdisciplinary training that can suffice for more than one discipline.

I've done these MOOCs before, they're not onerous by any stretch…the assessment for the last one was three online quizzes! ;)

When will you read the post for the first time?

  • Do I get a edu.au email when I enroll for this?

    • +1

Sounds like you don't know how MOOCs work. You use you own mailbox.

  • No I don't, hence why I asked. Thanks for replying. No 10%off then.

    • Im not sure if you do but there are many other courses where you'll get a free .edu.au email for life. Use the Ozbargain search feature!

  • I did have a look actually. Couldn't find any. Any tips?
