Thanks mate. I was going to buy travel insurance from these guys tomorrow using the 10% off discount.

    15% off even better!

Most insurance policies have a 14 day money back guarantee as part of the standard terms and conditions of a contract
So if you haven't departed on your trip yet you may be able to use that to get the discount after all (though admittedly it would be a bit of work to cancel and buy a new policy). Could be worth calling to ask

Better deal here imo > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/256784

That deal is not getting much love for some reason mind you, even though they are underwritten by Allianz. Regardless for the same cover I took out yesterday with Fast Cover I saved $14 when compared to the Southern Cross deal.

    • Just entered some details then…

For my trip in Decemember I've found that SCTI was cheaper by $30.

      • I'm only going to Bali for a week so that may have something to do with it.

Note: FastCover excess is $200, SCTI is $100 by default.

SCTI still ends up cheaper for me anyway

Pro-tip - check with your credit card provider, as some will offer free basic travel insurance as part of their policy.

    e.g. cba platinum credit card
    Westpac

Here are some write-ups of the various Credit Card Travel Insurance:

Be wary of the excess charged on the credit card covers. Mine was $500!

  • …and Check with your health provider too - some provide OS travel cover at NIL or minimal cost. eg. BUPA Ultimate. As far as Travel insurance, I normally use TID but might check SCTI this time - Cheers!

cant see Philippines listed in their destination

Pick "Limited World - Excludes USA & Canada" - covers all destinations, except the USA and Canada.

  • I'll be doing a 12-15 week Europe/Asia travel starting in late August, is this a good insurance to pick? I really haven't gotten around to the insurance searching as yet so any feedback would be great :)

  • Thanks so much 😊
    I needed this deal!

  • Thanks guys , i just got one.

  • Are there any websites where you can find out the payout rates of these insurance policies? I've heard stories where they just refuse to pay for some arbitrary reason, and you'd have to spend tens of thousands in court to get them to cough up.

      • That's great, thanks.

They rate extremely well compared to the rest, though almost all reviews include the phrase "easy to setup" which makes me wonder whether they are real reviews. :)

    • I had to claim from them and they were excellent, we always get our travel insurance through them now.

  • Does this policy cover Terrorism?

    • +1

      https://www.scti.com.au/legal/travel-insurance-policy-wordin…

See section 1.1 Medical & Evacuation:
The maximum amount We will pay for claims under section 1.1 that are
directly or indirectly related to Terrorism is $100,000 per Policy.

    • If you bought a policy today to go somewhere next month, and next week there was a terrorist attack at your planned destination and the government issued a 'do not travel' warning - your policy would not cover you for any costs you have already spent if you decide not to go. Same for civil unrest and rioting.

      • i thought they wouldn't cover you if you DID go… if there's a 'do not travel' DFAT warning…

  • Took out this cover for a trip in EU later this year. It compares well against others, especially when considering the excess is $100 which often higher with competitors

  • Perfect timing, ended up being close to $40 cheaper than insurance offered by my employer - though hopefully there are no gaps in the coverage.

    Cheers.

  • Thanks OP. I was already going to use Southern Cross, but was going to book in a week or two. You saved me $39!

  • It looks like the 15% off only applies to the cost of the base premium, and doesn't apply to the added surcharge for pre-existing medical conditions. Oh well… I'm still saving $15 on the base premium so I guess its better than nothing…
