  • Is it these guys that reset limits July 1?

    • Our annual limits use the financial year, which means they reset on July 1. But it’s good to keep in mind that there are a bunch of different types of limits, and some won’t reset on July 1 each year. And it’s good to know that when you reach your lifetime limit, no insurance fund can help with the bill for those services ever again, even if you change to another type of cover, or if a new financial year kicks in.

      • So is it better to join ahm just before or after July 1 to ensure the rates limits reset in tbe new financial year?

    6 weeks free after 60 days = 42 / (42+60) = 41% discount over the 102 days.

Good but you can get up to 58% off with 'pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' promotions.

    • Have these been known to happen on extras only cover (without hospital)?

    • That is true, but if you have used up your annual limit with another health fund and switch to AHM in the second half of this calendar year, could you not effectively reset these annual limits when switching to AHM? Could be worth someone switching for the 102 days (6wks + 60 days) in that instance?

Anyone who joins under this promotion would be a fool to wait for the free 2 weeks after 365 days.

  • Bupa is offering 6 weeks free after 28 days

    • Bupa is offering 6 weeks free after 28 days

      = 42 / (42+28) = 60% discount over the 70 days.

      • Bupa through comparethemarket is offering 4 weeks free after 28 days, and $200 cashback after 60 days.
I think it's the best deal currently

        • Where is the $200 Cashback?

          • +1

            @digitalane: Topcashback then comparethemarket

            • @gembel: Legend thanks - i can’t seem to get CTM to show the cover i want - i want Flextra High 60 plus basic Hospital but it will only show me the first 12 and despite playing with filters, the best i can get to should is Flextra Stndard 60

              • @digitalane: Yeah, I can't get Bupa to show unless I turn off all filters.

                • +1

@scottb721: Do that. Then filter by brand and select only Bupa. You will only get the 12 cheapest prices returned based on your selected options

        • I don't see the CTM deal? Is it expired or do you need to do something other than the regular path on CTM's site?

      • I might jump on this, seems to be one of the rare you speak of above

  • I have always been with Bupa (previously HBA). I have fairly good silver hospital + extras cover.

The thing is that every quote I do is like 30% higher than what I'm currently paying. I even rang Bupa and asked them about it, they said I was on a grandfathered plan and everything else is now more expensive.

So I'm beginning to think that the best deal is just to stay on the plan you are on for as long as you can.

There is no way that you will save more by staying, even on a grandfathered plan.

I mean, let's take your claim by putting some arbitrary figures in there so we can work it out.

Say, for example, you're paying $2,000 per annum. You claim that quotes are 'like 30% higher than what I'm currently paying'. That would make the quotes around $2,600 per annum.

If you took up one of the typical 'pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' promotions, you would save approximately 58% off your new premium of $2,600, making your premium $1,092.

You see how $1,092 is cheaper than your current premium of $2,000?

I will say it again and again: it never pays to stay.

So I'm beginning to think that the best deal is just to stay on the plan you are on for as long as you can.

Exactly what Bupa wants you to think.

This strategy would require me to churn private insurance companies every 2.5 months. Is that what people here are doing?

Some might be, some might not be (I am). It's very easy to churn ♻️. If you are a true OzBargainer, yes, you would be churning through the always plentiful offers.

My point, perhaps illustrated a little too bluntly for some 🔨, is that you can do much better than by retaining your grandfathered plan—the proof is in the numbers 🤑. Replace the above figures with your own and you will see.

Have a look at my many historical comments if you want to learn some tips and tricks ℹ️ about churning (and maybe have a laugh along the way).

  • I dont see the option to apply the coupon code.

  • I'm in the market for family cover (partner and 2 young kids <5 yo). Any recommendations on the best company? Or are they all the same?

    • -2

I'd probably just get ChatGPT to find the best cover and deal based on your specific requirements.

    • +3

Just churn them they all suck.

  • Why not get the current Medibank promo that is similar to this PLUS 25k/50k LiveBetter points? Then flip out when you’ve maximized the value…

  • by when do we need to apply/start the cover?

  • Am I eligible for this offer if I m with Frank? I heard they are basically the same company

    • Am I eligible for this offer if I m with Frank? I heard they are basically the same company

Did you read the terms to see whether you're eligible? What did you find?

  • Say if I need to start a cover from 1 July. Should I start looking for an offer around that time?

    • +1

Yes. See what offers are available close to your required policy start date.

To add, there's nothing to stop you from churning a couple of times between now and then.
