Hi lyl. Not really a fan of importing laptops from overseas. Do you know if it has international warranty.

And what is the difference between Core M vs 6th Generation i3/i5/i7. Is it like Atom Vs Core 2 Duo. Only worried about the rapid depreciation in value over time.

    • +4

Core M yields a little less performance than mobile i5 but is much more power efficient.

      It's a good choice for a laptop.

      • +5

"While the CPU will be similar to a Core i3-5010U (Broadwell, 15 W) in short benchmarks, its performance may decrease under continuous full load. Overall, the chip has sufficient power for usual office and multimedia purposes."

        http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-m3-6Y30-SoC.149455.0…

Barely a last gen Mobile Core i3. Let alone a Core i5.

    • +12

ASUS have a global warranty. You'll be able to get it repaired/replaced at the ASUS Service Centre in Australia.

Use cpuboss to compare it to other 6 gens.

    • +2

      Asus offers international warranty IIRC

      • -1

Cheers Guys. Might stick with i7 for now.

  • +2

I think the i7, 12 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD model for AUD$12xx delivered is much better…

    • -1

its not QHD though. Only FHD, not that you would notice much difference on a smaller screen

      • +17

dont understand why need a QHD on a 13.3 inch screen, FHD is good enough

        • +7

I find it annoying on my XPS13. Some programs still don't scale properly. I would actually choose FHD over QHD for a 13" device.

    • +4

The i7 model screen is poor quality, also low frequency PWM flicker below 90% brightness.

    • +2

must be under AUD 1000 delivered or GST will be added.

      • VAT (20%) removal is still better than 10% GST :-)

      • Believe as long as it is under $1,000 not including shipping customs don't collect GST. Over $1,000 you pay GST on the product and shipping though.

    • Hi.. From where do we buy this??

  • does it ship to australia

    • +1

Yep. All Ozb deals ship to Australia ;)

      • "Sorry, this Seller doesn’t deliver to Australia Learn more
Dispatched from and sold by TEDI DEALS."

says doesn't deliver to Australia? or is this just me?

        • +1

          Select Amazon as your seller

        • @lyl: Sorry, as a first time Amazon user, can you tell me exactly how you do that?

          Cheers!

        • @wozza1:

Sorry, looks like the deal is expired now and Amazon are no longer selling this :(

          An example using another listing

Note it may have a UK keyboard like this one. Some characters (e.g. @, #, etc.) can be returned to their familiar positions in the OS keyboard settings, although the keys will then be labelled incorrectly. However, there may also be more significant physical differences (e.g. different-shaped Enter key, undersized Left Shift key).

  • +3

I've got one. QHD screen is low on brightness and contrast and is very reflective. Other than that - laptop is good for the price.

    • No Touchscreen issues?

      • Somethimes it doesn't work after sleep mode. I have to disable-enable the touch interface in devices. Touchscreen itself is fine, I'm not using it too often though.

        • This doesn't have a touchscreen so you don't have this one.

I personally went for the much more powerful UX303UB and love it, but it's in a different price bracket to this so not really a fair comparison. It was $1400 on sale, looks about $1650 now, though it's an Australian model so no keyboard issues.

    • Yeah when i was comparing the Zenbooks i noticed the QHD TS models had kind of lackluster displays. I ultimately went with a ux305ua which is FHD for the display brightness, quality and overall better battery life.

      • +1

        Yep, much better choice.

  • +1

no school work in the holidays LYL?

  • A review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zenbook-UX305CA-EHM1-Subno…
200Hz PWM flicker below 25% brightness

  • The biggest issue with this laptop is the Touchscreen without fail stops working after waking from sleep. I have tried every fix and none work. Only way to get it working again is the restart it.

    • +1

you go into device settings and disable the touch screen and enable it again. This works for me everytime

    • Perhaps it doesn't work because it doesn't actually have a touchscreen?

  • "Note: This has an UK keyboard"

Given that the only real difference is that the symbol that U.S. users call the "pound" sign [#] has been swapped out for a symbol for what the U.K. users call a "Pound", and what the keys actually produce on your terminal is governed by your keyboard settings I think [ and hope] most of us can cope :-p
8 gig being the maximum memory is the limiting factor for me with this, tho it will be good for a couple of years still…

    • +1

In terms of key difference, the more annoying issue for me is that @ and " are transposed.

      • Good point - especially for touch typists and forum posters who actually engage in discussion…

  • No backlit keyboard….pass

  • Coming up as £531.59 for me (not £464.19 as per the OP).

    • +2

  • I rekon surface book is much better

  • +1

Good specs - no touchscreen 'though.

    • +2

I think they're one of the better laptop brands. Are you confusing them with Acer?

  • Does anyone know if the 'hinge issue' affecting UX303 range has been fixed in this model?

    • Yeah, I've become wary of Asus laptops because of hinge issues affecting various models. I bought a UX303 last year from Jb hifi and after a few months the hinge pretty much broke. I put it down to a flawed hinge design. Jb Hifi were obviously pushing me to get it repaired through Asus initially, but thankfully I was able to negotiate a full refund with Jb hifi instead of getting the repair. (That isn't their usual policy, but I had explain to them that this is a manufacturer defects and thankfully they were willing to accept that.) The problem with that model UX303 was even if you got it repaired, due to the flawed design of the hinge, it was very likely that the hinge would just break again when you're out of the warranty period. Not only that, but if you rely on having a laptop for work purposes, then it's unacceptable to be waiting for a lengthy period of time for the repair to be done.

So what I learned from this experience is:
      - You better be sure that the laptop model you're purchasing doesn't have any inherent flaws and is from a 'reliable' manufacturer, otherwise you're just going to have headaches dealing with repairs that might not fix the problem. (It's obviously hard to do this, but try to search for reviews, problem reports, reddit threads about the laptop model.)
      - And also, next time I purchase a laptop, I want there to be a full refund / swap for a different model option from wherever I purchase (for manufacturer defects). It's worth asking Jb hifi about their refund / exchange policies for manufacturer defects and what time period from purchase you can do that, because it differs for Asus and other brands. Apparently, for Asus computers Jb Hifi has an exchange policy for manufacturers defects up to 6 months, whereas other models are usually only 3 months? (Confirm this with the store because my recollection might be off.) I was able to get a full refund 4.5 months after purchase date, so I consider myself lucky.

Any deals without the QHD screen, just the standard FHD/1080P?

Reasons are cheaper and better battery life.

    • Not on special but how does the Acer Aspire V3-372-587T compare in the $800s range locally?

      • I'm not a brand snob, but I wouldn't buy an Acer for build quality/reliability reasons.

        • +2

I have the Acer V3-371, 13.3", under 2 years old, I agree, avoid Acer. Touchpad, power input plug and USB ports are just not good enough. Amazing that such a long term, big selling, laptop manufacturer can fail on such crucial elements. Asus are sooo much better IMO..

        • @samwyze:

Acer sells on price. Usually sold to parents of school kids who don't want to spend too much.

They are an ok product, but ok isn't good enough for me.

  • I just bought one of these last month for $1k. Really nice laptop only thing missing is backlit keyboard!

  • Is Amazon selling the Rose Gold color ??

  • I would prefer a deal on the Zenbook UX306UA
    https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/ASUS-ZenBook-UX306UA/
    USB C
    16GB
    backlit kb

    • Waiting for this one too. Found any release dates yet?

    • Yeh that one is going to be priced far higher though and isn't even released yet. Also can't imagine battery life will be great considering screen, specs and dimensions.

      • The specs look similar (at first glance worse in fact) to my UX303UB and I get 7 hours basic usage (Word, Web browsing etc) on low brightness.

  • Would love to get similar i7 Asus at close to AUD $1k price. Any ideas where I should start looking??

  • for those concerned about the keyboard, you can actually go to one of those laptop keyboard shops online and purchase appropriate ones to replace them.
each key would cost around 5-8aud. not a big deal.
