$1 Medium Thick Cut Chips @ Hungry Jack's (Newcastle Area)

570

Been advertised for about a week now at all of my local HJ stores in Newcastle (Jesmond, Kotara, Glendale, Broadmeadow etc.).

Could be state wide but haven't seen it posted on here yet so am assuming it is Newcastle based stores only, leave any other confirmed stores in comments below. There is no online advertising of it also and is only displayed next to the drive thru speaker or in stores with no expiry.

Enjoy

Hungry Jacks is probably trying to keep up with KFC's $1 Chips campaign

The only difference is that HJ's chips are better

    Hungry Jacks FTW

    • +1

      HJ's chips are better

No way….for bears maybe, but not for cures.😁

      • +3

Hungry Jacks chips = KFC chips + crispier

        • +1

          no seasoning.

        • +2

@dasher86: thick cut does have seasoning

        • +2

          @h3h3:
I had them on the weekend and all I got was regular salt

        • +2

          @dasher86:

The thick chips at my local HJ are seasoned and are the best chips at any take away chain I've had. KFC chips were my favourite before these came out. I hope that they are permanent and not temporary.

        • @subywagon:
I might have to give them another go.
To be honest i wasn't on the whole impressed. reminded me of the BK chips in the UK but thicker.

        • @dasher86: Maybe try another HJ? I've even had a friend randomly recommend the HJ chips to me the are that good! lol

    • +2

Good on Hungry Jacks! It complements the $1 frozen drinks :)

      • +2

$2 = Sweet and Savoury snack!

        • +2

          Now that's a true bogan foodie's meal.

    • Hmm. The HJ deal has been being advertised here for over a week, whereas the KFC one is only really recent, isn't it? I like the KFC salt.

      • True. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion

    • Nah KFC ones are better; HJ would do well to advertise these as thick-but-not-quite-thick-cut at best. Thicker than Maccas, thinner then KFC :)

      • Kfc chips used to be the best, until these amazing crispy chips came along from Hungry Jacks, the seasoning on the Kfc chips are amazing, but what really stands out is the crispiness of the chips from Hungry jacks that makes it better

        • Yep, the crunch & the seasoning are perfect with these…

  • +2

Thanks OP, never tried their thick cut chips, gonna give them a go! :)

    • +3

much better than their regular ones IMO + seasoning

      • +1

Nom nom nom, going out on a home visit to North Lambton shortly…Jesmond, here I come!!! :D

        • Update: Two serves of these & a frozen coke later, $3 total, big thumbs up! :)

  • +1

Was at my local hungry jacks yesterday and it was not advertised

However ended up with a chicken deluxe large meal with a free survey cheese burger and a large sundae via HJ app for $4.15

    • Interesting, how did you do it?

      • Ordered a Chicken Deluxe Burger (not a meal) and asked for a Large Upgrade.

They only allow large upgrades with a meal. I guess i was lucky lol

    HJ chips are crap.

    • +3

The Burgers are better at Hungry Jacks.

      • but KFC is So Good

        • +3

But Burgers are better is better than So good

          Better > So good

          @Bearosaurus:
the deal is for chips though

        • +1

          @tuzii:

Hungry Jacks should also state the chips are better

        • @Bearosaurus:
          that would be deception

        • meanwhile im in my maccas corner and i'm lovin' it

    • I thought you went for Collingwood though ;)

      • +2

        Yes, the Giant Killers…

  • +2

I had hjs for first time in a while, had no prior knowledge of the chip swap they've done, was pretty good but now they give even less chips in the box :((

  • +1

My local store is only doing the thick cut chips now, can't buy the old thinner style.

No complaints, they taste much better!

  • For the past month in Warrigal HJ towards cheltenham, these thick chips are good. Should try for $1. Don't judge by previous experience. Try another store or 2.

  • +1

About a month ago I noticed Brighton and Prahran HJ's switched to only having these (no more thin chips) - they are actually pretty damn good chips.

I reckon there's a lot more weight to the chip packet sizes now with fewer chips but less empty space between them, more potato for my dollar which is different from what others have been saying.

  • Can I ask why would anyone go to McDonald's?

    • Savas " Can I ask why would anyone go to McDonald's? "

For the Great Salads, Toasties and time out to read the free paper !

      • +1

The toasties, salads and newspapers are better at Hungry Jack's

    • -1

Their fries are better. And ordering on the touch screen is way better service.

At my HJ, the girls waiting for food to come down the chute will have their backs turned to you, not taking new orders even though so many people are waiting. Come on kids, you're waiting for an order to be fulfilled, but you can still take a new order while you wait, right?

  • anyone know whether this is in SA/Adelaide?

    • +1

Check out your local HJ drive thru and find out yourself!

  • Get them for free using the app

    • +1

Yes but there's a chance of getting it and its not guaranteed

      • If you go through drive through and say you have it… They never usually check once you get to the window

        • Thats if theyre naive enough, oh wait. THEY ARE

  • HJ chips are good as Dominos.

    • +1

Dominos aren't really known for their chips.
      https://www.dominos.com.au/menu-side/chunky-cut-chips-S00016

      • Nah. Half the time staff don't know about it either.

        • +1

You know you have problems when are aware that Dominos sell hot chips.

        • +1

@28Degrees: Found it back when all of those coupons were about that got everything really cheap. I had many pizza chip parties

  • +2

Had these over the weekend from Broadmeadow HJ. They are heaps better than the Maccas ones and the old HJ ones. Comparable to KFC and just as cheap. Bring on the chip wars. I don't understand why Maccas doesn't serve thick cut chips with their Create Your Own Taste and Deluxe Burgers. Povvo shoe string fries just don't cut it when you are paying more than $8 for a burger.

    • McDonalds do offer chunky fries at stores with a burger bar… Only a couple in Melbourne though. Plenty in NSW and a handful in WA and QLD.

  • Medium, Thick… Uncut?

    • Bigger, longer and uncut.

  • is this nationwide ?

  • I got some of these thick cut chips the other day with my grill master burger. They're actually pretty good.. I mean it's just a potato but I was much happier to eat the medium cut chips than fries. I didn't even realise I was getting them until I opened the 'box'. The fries from my local HJ are usually crap but then so are the chips/fries from KFC / Maccas.

  • Are these the same chips that were available a year or two ago at HJ? I forget what they were called then, but those were heaps better than the normal chips, and I'm thinking they were thick cut, so they might be the same ones. Does anyone know?

  • Couldn't get them at Hungry Jacks Tuggerah. The server said it only worked at Newcastle stores.

  • +1

So guys a button has popped up on my regsiter in SA for $1 regular fries, So this deal is probably going to be nationwide but just wait for the promotional stuff before you ask for it!
