Not the cheapest its been by a long shot, but cheapest at the moment if you just have to get it now
With the $15 off every $75 and the extra10 coupon, takes it down from $2499 to $1814
Pity as before the $15 off $75 promo, the machine was on sale for $1999 last week
Unfortunately the cashback from Breville has expired too
I'm going to hold out until the ebay 20% off sales…I'm sure will happen sooner or later
Breville Oracle $1,814.10 at Myer

Those are mainly automatic machines that aren't really the same thing. Not to mention the pod machines too.
Holy crap. Cost nearly just as much as my car.
I was kinda expecting a coffee machine that predicts the future with that price-tag. :)
If you fit a flux capacitor and pull the shot at exactly 88 degrees you can go check the future yourself!
Where we're going, we don't need cups!
@McFly:
I think you're getting your roles confused.
Think McFly.
I'll pay $1000 by Xmas.
I'll wait for the coffee club 2 for 1
80 cent coffee at coles express!
Price match at DJs and stack with 10% off gift cards via entertainment book.
Total should be $1632 .. closer to lowest.
Personally, I don't understand this "Automatic/Manual machine" .. should be one or other, not both.
sale ends today. Entertainment book says allow up to 2 business days….
Layby at the price match today … pick up when you get the gift cards.
Has anyone had the white glove service come out to them - is it worth the time?
Only takes half an hour, good intro to how to get the best out of the machine.
It's free and they leave some coffee behind… Good value and worth it IMHO!How much coffee do they leave behind? Is it the 1kg bag haha
500g but was close to expiry. Good strong blend though.
Can you share your settings?
That's pretty irrelevant as it varies machine to machine and more importantly from bean batch to bean batch (and throughout that batch life).
I was doing some work for my local café that has a fancy commercial grinder and espresso machine and I was allowed to have a go. I saw her pour a very insipid coffee that only poured decently for about 5 second. The rest of the time it was just watery muck. I wanted to change the grinder setting to make it finer and she chucked a minor hissy fit - the coffee bean supplier had been (I got the impression some weeks, possibly months, earlier) and 'set up' the grinder and she didn't want it changed. Completely the wrong way to run an espresso.
Just get freshly roasted good quality beans - this will make the biggest difference.
That's pretty poor.
A good barista will do a setup each morning and then adjust during the day if necessary.
Even things like ambient temp, humidity etc can alter the pour.If you don't have a local source for them you can buy over the Internet, but it costs. I used to bulk buy just enough to get free post then find people that wanted the extra. Now I have a Behmor 1600 roaster (about $500) and roast my own as I need them. Green beans are $10-12 kg and keep for ages so you can bulk buy (I got 30 kg last time).
So what's the cheapest this has been? I've been looking for a couple of weeks now waiting for the price to go down
$1599 with ebay 20% off or cashback promo (or some combination of these discounts)
The dual boiler for $899 using same coupon is a great deal too
Again, not the lowest as eBay have done 20% off Myer and Harvey Norman did a stupid good price onceThat's 1814 coffees at 7-eleven equivalent to a coffee everyday for 5 years. You don't need to buy beans, milk and don't forget about the time value of money & risk of machine failure.
Then again, 7-eleven may not be nearby, they've been found to exploit their workers and their coffee is crap.
That's 1814 coffees at 7-eleven equivalent to a coffee everyday for 5 years. You don't need to buy beans, milk and don't forget about the time value of money & risk of machine failure.
Hardly a fair comparison … it's the equivalent of saying 'my local pub has a 60" tv with foxtel, so I never need to get my own TV/foxtel subscription'. People still get their own [coffee machines, tv, foxtel] for a variety of reasons - convenience, personal tastes, hygiene, etc, etc, etc.
it's 450 $4 coffees at a cafe so ROI would be 1.3 years for 1 coffee/day or 9 months at 2 coffees a day not counting in costs of materials
Isnt this cheaper then 20% off Ebay anyway? Most seem to be around the $2299 mark so minus the 20% that would bring it down to $1839 without any other discounts
Usually the eBay discount coincides with a retailer having it on special too, so it works out cheaper
Word of warning with these machines.. As you may know this is the Breville Smart Grinder built into a BES920 making it the BES980.
Common problems with all of these:
Solenoid valve buzzes and screams after just a year of use.
Steam wand leaks
Boilers Break
OPV valves need changing often
Seals go
Pressure gauge dies oftenSo expect these to be in a repair shop every 6 - 8 months.
Make sure you buy an extended warranty! If they do not offer this then DO NOT PURCHASE.
I've been using the BES920 since 2012 and have had 5 repairs done on mine. I now need a solenoid valve replacing, new boiler, OPV valve replaced and new Pressure gauge. I'm just upgrading to a Rocket R58, done with breville.
Just last year the steam wand got replaced it still came back leaking and OPV valve got replaced.
Coffee is an expensive hobby, just dump the extra $1000 in and buy this: http://www.talkcoffee.com.au/shop/rocket-espresso-r5/
You'll thank me 10 years from now as these machines last 20 years easily.
I've had problems with prosumer machines. The last repair cost me over $500. At least this has 2 year warranty, plus and extra year if purchased with a gold or platinum credit card. Prosumer only 1 year. also a prosumer shd be serviced annually which costs over $100 each time. Thinking if I can get one for 1600 and it lasts the extended warranty, if something goes wrong, easier to throw it out and get a new model by then, as compared to expensive repair bills on a $3500 machine(R58). Found a good deal on a R58 btw from OS. Send me a pm and i'll send you the details
Do you need to be a rocket scientist to know how to work this one?
Much easier to teach the our other half to put a pod in the machine and press a button.
You'll want to know how to accurately set a grinder and dose. The machine will tamp for you (Or atleast try to)
I've and a good pod machine and it's nowhere near this type of machine (average coffee, not very hot and pretty bad milk steaming). The only advantage a pod machine has is coffee varieties (cup to cup). I have the BES980, but in retrospect I reckon the BES920 with Smartgrinder is a better buy (but not a better machine).
I've had this machine for close to 2 years without any of the above mentioned problems. Making at least 4 coffees a day with it. Just been cleaning and descaling when prompted. Touch wood it continues on trouble free.
The BES920 was released late 2013, so you must have the older BES900 model if you purchased one in 2012.
You are correct. I was the one who posted the $1099 dual boiler and grinder combo on here
How does this machine compare to the aldi expressi for 100 bucks
Would be like saying how does the Mercedes E Class compare to the Toyota Aurion…
I have the Aldi at home and an Expobar Minore at work (which I just sold). There is a definite difference. However I'm not sure if the difference would be as much between the Oracle and a prosumer machine…well not a justifiable $1500 extra difference anyway….
I don't know much about coffee machines but for $2000(!!!) this obviously does more than make a cup of coffee right?
$2000 is really nothing once you start looking at serious coffee machines.
This is still home grade gear.It cooks baby blue, in it's spare time.
There's a whole bunch of recipes on the internets. Google it.
Don't forget the delonghi refurb deal if you're chasing a machine https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254626
