I'm glad you got the PIN right second time around! :)

      Interesting he didn't use paypass…

Not a big fan of Commbank

Too excited by this "amazing" deal ;-)

      also android 4.4.4

      • Where did you find that?
Above link & other sites show 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), but may have been upgraded.

    • +1

      And 8gb storage

Sure, you can move some apps to the SD, but not all, and they still leave crap behind

  • +1

similr spec to 2012 nexus 7….

  • +2

    Not worth $300

Where are these old tablets selling for $299 to justify Coles claim of a $200 saving???

Launched Feb 2014, probably sitting under counter for a while.

So $299 RRP probably dates from then.

Recent expired deal Bonus Huawei Mediapad 10 Link Tablet When You Buy Telstra PP 4GX Wi-Fi Advanced II for $129 @ Telstra was probably better value

  • +2

    LOL at the RRP…….
The OP just got ripped off and he doesn't even know it!

There was the Sony Tablet from BigW which was alot better than this.
With 1 GB you will regret even buying it…..

If you wanted something cheap, better option was to risk it with a China Tab instead, good specs and gives a lot better Android experience than this $99 tab

    • keep receit dont open it go refund tomorrow

    • yeah i got this when it was on sale for a little over $100 AUD.
      http://www.banggood.com/Cube-iWork8-Ultimate-32GB-Intel-Cher…

It's actually really well built and runs well. My only gripe is how slow it is to write stuff. Updating my steam library takes FOOOOOREVER

      • OOOH you reckon you could capture all your drivers (using double driver) and upload?
Someone's already done this but my mate's is still stuffed. Touch works only every second boot (but he broke it to begin with trying to install third party drivers etc)

        • i have no idea what double driver is but i'll have a look tonight

hard to find stock though, especially in WA

    • +1

Some states buy different stock of this type of tech, according to a senior staff member at my Coles.

  • +6

    Specs here… http://consumer.huawei.com/en/tablets/tech-specs/s8-301l-en.…
Not too bad for $99… anyone got a link to a equal or better specced deal that is "currently available"
    with a local warranty?

  • +1

OP: about how many were in stock?
Is this a national / State / or just 1 store deal as you say currently on weekly special @99?

    • not sure about the other store. when I was there, it was the last piece and may be they will stock up more the next day according to the staff.

      • +1

Thanks. But sometimes these are only unit available, considering it's not for sale in any other outlet I could find online. Unfortunately staff opinion is rarely reliable, especially with old or rare stock like this.

Does it take SIM card for calls - there are several models. Huawei specs above state 4G.

A previous Coles MediaPad deal was thought to take SIM, but was only WiFi. Still was a great, well built unit for price

        • +1

not sure if they will stock up more or not.

Yes it does take sim card and supports 4G and it comes with the telstra sim. And I am happy for the value of 99 bucks.

        • +2

          @nepaus:
4G sets this apart from other tablets in this price range. I like the IPS screen in MediaPads.

Comparing this tablet with Lenovo Tab 3 A7 ($76 at OW, HN for non-LTE)
    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6137&idPhone2=…
Differences in spec's - camera, screen size, weight, LTE, sound/dolby, etc. Worth comparing for those who plan to buy a sub-$100 tab.

    • Just did a check with a few different models and brands and my own current shit smart phone that needs some repairing. It's not too bad not good but also not to bad. For me preferably I wouldn't pay more than $40-50 for this kind of materials. But as it stands now compared to the rest its okay. Beats the lenovo's a7-10/30s lowest price of ~$75 in $/value imho if you can stomach the extra $25.

Off the top of my head better resolution better battery life better connectivity options better screen size better best bet

  • +1

I have this tablet and it's heavily skinned without an app drawer.
    It's very very slow too.

On the upside, build quality is quite good (metal body) and battery life is reasonable.

  • Some states buy different stock of this type of tech, according to a senior staff member at my Coles.

So may not have ever been sold in some stores.

As this is an old model, availability at any store is uncertain until tested. So report availability.

OP only saw the one bought! So may not meet minimum quantity for a deal.

I haven't found any for sale online - so that save $200 claim is dubious as it seems no one is selling at that RRP. Too easy to get excited over exaggerated huge saving.

    We will see.

    • +1

everytime i visit that coles I used to first check the price of that Tab and it was always 299 and to my surprise it was 99 today and I grabbed it instantly. :)

      • +1

Well that justifies the price reduction. Your patience & persistence paid off. Enjoy your tablet :-)

Haven't ever seen these in Brisbane stores, but found Queensland does stock different brand tablets to Victoria in past deals :-(

In an old $29 Huawei MediaPad 7 lite Coles deal, Brisbane stores did have stock - forgotten about under new stock in storage. (I'm still using that single core tablet in a car installation controlling head unit via app, providing GPS, movies, etc) Had to really ask them to have a good look.

  • +1

Btw, it's Coles at Braybrook, not Tottenham (there is an industrial suburb called Tottenham to the south, plus the station Tottenham down the road).

    • I live nearby the Tottenham station and the coles is nearby by house, probably 5 minutes of walk :D

  • -5

Wow, what a rip off. I wouldn't even pay $50 for this landfill. Enjoy your lag, OP.

  • +2

    OP: best to highlight
    - confirmed, this is a 4G tablet
    - sticker price was $299 recently, see receipt photo for $200 saving (We don't trust RRP, but that sticker price is likely old.)
    - Deal may not be available at other stores
    - 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM

edrift reports heavily skinned without an app drawer. It's very very slow too.

  • +1

i had this and just sold it. you need nova launcher to get it worked more smoothly.

  • +1

Maybe worth to use it as a GPS?

    • Had used this one for digital photo frame + music player for my car + weather station + GPS. Everything is going smooth so far. :)

      • +1

That & music streaming, watching YouTube & internet TV + controlling my car Bluetooth head unit via an app are handled quite well with a ancient tablet from nearly 2 years ago from Coles ($27 Huawei MediaPad 7 lite - single core!). You don't need much for those functions.

But my tablet is way too slow to use as a browser. Its how this tablet functions with that type of use & more intensive tasks that most would be interested in. Others have reported issues above.

  • Asked at a couple of Coles in Brisbane - no one has ever seen these.
No one has reported finding another one here.

Seems this deal should have been posted on OnlyMyBargain, due to insufficient stock for a deal on OzBargain ;-(

    • May be its store's special.. That's why not available in other store mate. May be I'm lucky :D

      • +1

I like the way you think 😄
