Kogan, eh? I'll pass. Thanks for the awesome list though.

  • +2

Kogan…i will rather buy local retailer to get TRS

    • +7

I agree that for some of those the difference is negligible after TRS, but not everyone is going overseas in the next 60 days :)

  • +6

    Kogan <Insert derogatory comment here>

  • +7

Prices above rrp for grey import. Only cheap because of eBay promotion. Thieves.

    • +1

Yep, if that list showed the HK RRP converted into AU it would paint a very different picture once you click on the auctions.

  • Why the hate? I bought an Apple Watch from Kogan, working perfectly fine without any problem whatsoever. Agreed on the warranty thing but as far as I'm concerned they are all Apple products with pretty consistent build quality anyway.

    • +9

I think the hate is not that there is anythig wrong with the Apple products being sold by Kogan, or even that they have a more limited warranty, its that Kogan's advertised prices on eBay etc are above the actual RRP. It makes me pretty mad too. It's the principle! Why can't Kogan sell at exactly the RRP minus the 20% discount? It IS greedy, and that's why the hate. I think.

      • +4

Yep. Listing grey imports at a higher cost than RRP is ridiculous.

      • Hmm I guess that's a fair point.

  • Where's the best Price on the Apple PENCIL….?

  • +1

Always makes me worry especially Kogan items.

  • Does Kogan sell open box iPad's like they do with phones? Or are they sealed?

    • I bought a few iPhone from them in the past and yes, waiting for the SE delivery this round. All box were sealed. You might have gotten the bad batch

      • Am wondering as phones bought in the past have been open box with "inspected and tested by Kogan" sticker on them.

        • +1

Maybe recent practice? Last one I ordered was a bit more than a year ago (never had that sticker, I bought 3 iphone and 1 ipad mini from them in the past). Will see when I get my next one in 2 weeks time :(

        • +1

          @hanofee:

Nah this was a few years ago. Haven't trusted them since.

Btw is Touch ID worth it for the extra $60? Thinking iPad Mini 2 or 3 for use out and about. Used to the convenience of Touch ID on a smartphone.

        • +2

          @abc:

Touch ID is not worth it on an iPad. Definitely on an iPhone.

From what I know the Mini 3 is the same as the 2 apart from the Touch ID.

          Don't forget Apple refurbished…

          http://www.apple.com/au/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/i…

You'll get local warranty and an Apple charger, not generic.

          Hope this helps.

        • +1

@abc: Like @sillywalks said, TouchID isn't worth $60 but if you're looking for a Cellular version the iPad Mini 3 Cellular ($409.59) listed above is actually quite decently priced when Apple's still selling the Mini 2 Cellular for $529

        • @abc: Got my iPhone SE, 2 days after ordering. I was shocked on how they could clear the custom that fast. Was expecting 1-2 weeks. It's still sealed, no sticker as you said. The cheap HK/Australian adapter is on separate box. And for me, no, the TouchID doesn't worth $60 (will be happy if I get it free, but not paying extra just for that)

        • @hanofee:

Cool. Yeah was just wondering about Touch ID as this would be for "out and about" use like a smartphone and it's a pain to use passcodes for instance on the train where people might "shoulder surf" :P

Beware guys, I bought an iphone 6 off Kogan in the last eBay sale. Waited for the phone for 3 weeks until Kogan sent me an email stating that they could no longer honour the sale due to supplier issues or whatever BS excuse they want to give. They offered me a refund minus $10 for admin fee (with $10 in store credit). I told em to piss off & got my full refund back thru Paypal! Will never buy branded electronics from Kogan again!!

    • +3

What on earth is an $10 admin fee?

No surprise you told them where to go.

  • +2

I wish Kogan was cheaper too, but this is what is on offer.
I bought an iphone the other day, and have bought macbook/ipad/iphone from Kogan during past deals. If you want the best price you have to put up with Kogan service.
If you can claim TRS or similar, this isn't the deal for you.

    • +2

The problem is it is not the best price taking in to account the jacked up fake RRP and limited warranty. See my post above.

      • As I said, I wish Kogan was cheaper too, but the link you gave for BigW was $28 dearer and required 7.5% discounted wish cards. Are these still available?

        • They were until the 4th but due to some weird IT issue they have been suspended. See the latest thread its way too OT however they come about regularly. But the important point here is that Big W have been consistently selling the 64gb Air 2 at $678.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest here but you don't appear to be looking at the full details of this deal. You're only seeing it how Kogan wants you to see it and not as a pumped up headline price less a temporary discount to get the sucker in the door.

Think about what you are giving up in return for the $28 which is the ability to go into an apple store in the event of a manufacturing fault and get it swapped out or repaired. Odds are it won't happen because apple hardware is quality kit but I'd rather waste $28 than have to deal with an ethically challenged company whose entire business model is built around circumventing Australian consumer laws.

Hope you get a bargain in the end though.

  • +2

Mad buying Apple products from Kogan, best to wait till there is 10% off or other sales from authorised sellers then ring Apple and they will price match, then you have the 14 day no questions asked return policy and the 2 year ACL warranty.

  • Yawn, Apple prices gone up a lot. with AMEX deal I recalled I bought iPad Air 2 64GB wifi last year $550, less $50 if TRS but didn't travel.

Anyway $50 more isn't a bad price but its grey import. Where as I got it from Apple retail. No issues with warranty.

    • It was $619 over a year ago at OW. I used my 5% staff discount card and got it for $588.

It's shocking that it's not only not gone down in over a year, but how much it's gone up instead. As far as I know, this only happens with Apple products. They'll say exchange rate or something like that, but Apple are quick to adjust prices to a declining dollar. When the dollar appreciates, I wonder how quickly they will drop prices…

  • HAHAHAHAHA Kogan
    toppest kek

  • +1

OK Kogan is dishonest, a jerk in real life etc etc so how come he becomes so rich doing what he is doing?

    • +6

I think the answer you seek is within your question…. :)

  • A bit off topic, but the new iPads are getting too thin and fragile. I just bought a Mini 4 and noticed if you press with medium force the glass flexes and slightly distorts the LCD underneath, even from the bezel at the bottom. I've never noticed this on any other iPad, iPhone etc. I went to an Apple store and tried all the iPads there and they all did it. Pretty dodgy considering the cost of these devices and the fact they are designed to be poked, prodded and held using the screen.

Not exactly a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind.

    • Have you tried the iPad Pro?
They don't flex on mine but maybe because I'm not trying to press it to break it.

    • Thats a product feature. It's called the Flexi-glass technology. :-)

  • Pity the Good guys are not selling the ipad/iPhone.
Otherwise 20% off the apple tax is pretty good.

    • I was in The Good Guys, Prospect, Sydney last week and they had iPads.

      • On eBay ?

        • Ah sorry about that. I thought you meant instore.

  • Do they have the iPad Pro 12"?

  • Serious question. What can you do with a 16GB iPad?

Sounds severely limiting to its functionality if you ask me.

Does it support an OTG USB stick if you have an adapter? Or would that only be useful if you had a file manager?

    • I mainly use mine as a feedly reader + chrome + media streamer (Netflix + YouTube + AirVideo) and 16GB is just fine.

      • You can do all of those things with a much cheaper tablet and more.

        • Sure but I can't stand low-res screen on tablets. The Air 16GB I got was down to $328.30 after TRS and for the price + screen size + screen res there wasn't anything I could find to beat that.

        • @willbaba: China.

        • @lostn: You'd probably better off with Android for your need. But everyone has different need. For me, 16GB (about 13 effectively after the OS) is more than enough. Most stuff are streamed these days. So, mainly facetime, browsing, ebook reading, streaming and games for me that doesn't require much space. I casually took photos too, but not that often to fill up the space. It's about the screen res, the responsiveness of the device, the customer support and the user friendliness for me which iPad ticked all the boxes.

        • @hanofee: You have an unlimited data account?

I would need about 30GB a month for my needs on 16GB storage.

In summary, 16GB is intended for people with basic needs (and expensive data plans), which excludes me.

Could anyone answer my question: Do iPads support OTG usb?

        • +1

@lostn: FYI I have an iPad 3 64GB, iPad mini 2, Nexus 7 (both gen), Samsung Tab 3 10.1, Asus T100, Dell 7000 2-in-1 and MBA in addition to the iPad Air (less not get into phones, thanks to OZB…) so yea, I'm well aware of what I can get/do at a particular price point/OS. I just grab whatever I think suits best for what I'm going to do. I just like diversity and gadgets. And with Skymesh 600GB+12TB data isn't a concern to me.

        • @willbaba: I have an iPad 3 64GB LTE also. But I don't have any OTG cable for it and don't know if it exists. It's feeling a bit slow because I upgraded iOS so I'm thinking of replacing it.

I sound like a broken record now, but do you know if it supports OTG? Can I plug a USB stick into it?

You seem to have a lot of devices. I want one that can do everything, instead of a different one for whatever I'm in the mood for. Cheapest option seems to be a 16GB Android. To do the equivalent of what I need to do on iOS I'd need to pay Apple's premium storage tax and go for at least 64GB but more preferably 128GB.

With just 16GB I might have maybe 10GB available, and you can't fit enough of the kind of apps I need on that, and you'd have no room for video files once you've installed your apps. I struggle massively with my 32GB phone that has no SD card slot and can only store a few episodes of a TV show at a time, every day needing to delete and put next episodes on.

        • @lostn: get a Sandisk wireless drive for videos. More versatile.

  • Price went up on Mini 4.
