The link was working 30 minutes ago, I'm not sure why it has stopped working. Will follow-up. Might need to deactivate this deal until it is fixed.

I received an email from Qantas for this same offer. The link on that email was http://www.citibank.com.au/edm/qantas/?sig=QFN7TY61&pres=6FN…

      That worked for me.

    • I received an email from Qantas for this same offer. The link on that email was http://www.citibank.com.au/edm/qantas/?sig=QFN7TY61&pres=6FN…

      That worked for me.

      • That link ends up at the Citi Rewards credit card application. Does anyone have a working link for Qantas offer?

        • I had that same discussion with Citibank .. I spoke to them in chat and if you go through the application and it says 70000 under the blue card in the top right corner you should be good. Try yourself

        • @droodle: Towards the end of the application under "Card Options" it then has rewards enrollment and the only option is "Citi Rewards"

        • @dtox:

I queried that also .. and they said they add Qantas FF when accepted - i've just been accepted so will find out when i set up online banking (waiting for cards)

        • @droodle: Thanks. Can you please reply here once that happens. Did they contact your employer for confirmation?

        • @dtox:

I've no idea if they contacted my employer - i didn't hear anything.

0.5 Qantas points per $1 spent.
That is very low given such a high annual fee after 1st year.

    • +2

Pretty standard for Visa cards these days. Visa cards with more than 0.5ppd are hard to come by. You'd only do it for the bonus points though then cancel the card.

      472 points per dollar. Hmmmmm

  • +6

you would only get this for the bonus points and then close it.

    • Wouldn't it be better to cancel it at the end of the year before renewal.. rather than right away?

      • Why? What is the benefit of keeping it?
By cancelling straight away, it gives you the chance for another deal 12 months late, instead of 22-21 months later.

        • Something about this route keeps your credit score stable
          Apparently

    and two airport lounge visits

I read that as $100 cash back :-)

    • +6

Nope, see T&Cs "Please note that within Australia Priority Pass is only available at Cairns International Airport. "

  • This card used to be free for life (promoted twice I think) when you applied via a Veda link (or something like that). This was an old thread that referred to it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175099 (Note: the link doesn't point to the offer anymore)

There is still a Veda+Citibank link that is active but I don't know what the "special offer" is https://citibank.veda.com.au/Home/Apply?product=CITICC
You can give it a try if you're keen…

That is Signature Credit Card different with this card: Qantas Signature Credit Card.

      • +1

Ohhhh so it is. So many almost identical cards!

      • +2

Good point. A QFF Bronze member like me would find QFF points pretty useless. Even hard to find business class tickets to Europe in 353 days time.

Standard Citibank Signature Card allows you to transfer to Kris Flyer where you have much higher chance for redeeming reward flights.

        • I booked business class BNE -> LHR like 6 weeks away. I also saw another seat available 4 weeks away.
          Maybe I was just lucky?

  • +2

I'd really be keen to see the credit reports on some of you guys who are applying for credit cards for a good reward and then cancelling it, rinse and repeat. :D

      • What is the credit company you are using? It is not Veda as I am using

        • +2

          That one is Credit Savvy

        • +2
        • @brazen00:

Is it accurate? Also, can you monitor credit enquiries like Veda does? I'll change to this company as Veda costs me $89.95 / YR

        • @divious: Seems to give a lower score than Veda. I use both and neither has moved despite c/c applications. Yes, you can monitor enquiries, so long as the enquiries are made with Credit Savvy.

        • @brazen00:

Thanks. The best thing is it's free.

        • +1

          @divious:

          Yes
I was 800, got a second Westpac Black account for 60,000 points, and I dropped to 650ish, cancelled that, and got an ANZ Black for 75,000 points in Feb and it went up to 716. I just cancelled the ANZ card, so expect back up at 800 again. http://i.imgur.com/z3SJV1S.jpg

        • @snuke:

I also did the same thing and my Veda score even went up!

Will cancel my ANZ card at the end of this year before the annual fee kicks in as I am still enjoying the point rate 1.5 on ANZ Amex card.

        • +1

          @brazen00:

Veda is a score out of 1200
CreditSavvy is a score out of 1000

        • @divious:

I already get 1.5 on my Westpac Amex. I will always keep this card as my main, and stupidly purchased a fridge on the ANZ card, and not the Westpac which would have given me 2 years extra warranty coverage insurance.

        • @snuke:

Do you know if lowering your credit limit affects your credit score?

        • @nightelves:

It should, as you then have a lower liability which is what a credit score is all about, your ability to finance debt. The lower your possible debt, the higher your score.

        • @snuke:

What I understand is the credit provider will not report to the credit company when they lower or higher your card limit. So it doesn't effect your credit score at all.

        • @divious:

Yeah, good point, you would be right. But when actually applying for a CC or load etc… then they will take into account exact liabilities.

        • @snuke: If you say exact liabilities that would mean it only looks at a numerical value of your total credit limit to calculate your total "potential debt". (i.e. not factoring in your actual credit score)

        • @sena86: Indeed. However, my creditsavvy score is "lower" in the sense that I'm in the "OK" band, while in the "Good" band for Veda.

        • @snuke:

How did you find the score history on the website? Mine only shows my result.

Edit yep found it. Just need to press that little drop down arrow and it only shows from when you first join Credit Savvy.

        • @sena86: CreditSavvy uses Experian, which is credit shop different to Veda.

        • @divious: incorrect for Veda, providers do report credit limit changes which can be seen in credit report

      • Your score is really low isn't it?? Mine was like 700+

  • +3

The Airport Lounge visits are only valid at Cairns International Airport within Australia.

    • But if you happen to be flying overseas at all, there's a high likelihood you'll be able to use it: Bali, Singapore, KL, Auckland, Dubai, LAX, most large European airports, same with those in Latin America - it's very handy for those on long haul flights.

  • Credit reports are fine as long you pay them off.

I have applied for plenty (~15) and never had any problems.

    • +2

I take my hat off to you sir. I have only applied for 4 so there is still room for catch up :)

    • care to share credit score?

    • When do you cancel them then?

  • +1

So, those Citibank Signature Card with free lifetime are not available anymore? What is the equivalent deal now? Seems most rewards with insurance are only free for first year.

    • I had an old Citibank card, I called to cancel and they asked if there was any way I would stay with them, I told them I would only stay if they upgraded my card to a signature card fee free for life and they were happy to do so just to keep me on board.

    1. One complimentary Priority Pass™ Standard Membership, with two complimentary lounge visits, for the primary cardholder is a special feature of the Signature card. Signature cardholders must enrol for the Priority Pass Standard Membership at prioritypass.com/citibankaus. Please note that within Australia Priority Pass is only available at Cairns International Airport. Once you have enrolled, please allow up to 15 working days for your Priority Pass card to arrive in the mail. Unused visits cannot be carried forward to the following membership year. The total number of complimentary visits will be reset two at the beginning of each membership year while you remain a Signature cardholder. For the full list of valid airport lounges, please refer to www.prioritypass.com. Membership is subject to the Conditions of Use available at www.prioritypass.com.
  • Hmm did they change the conversation rate to Qantas? I was previously on the citi points but changed few months ago when they reduced the transfer rate from citi to Kris. I could have sworn my Qantas citi should be at 1 qff pt per $1 aud spent.

  • So essentially use this as your primary card for 90 days (if you usually spend $3k in that time) and you get 70,000 QF points for $139. Do you lose the points if you cancel the card or do they just go on to your QFF account?

    • +1

Make sure all the point transferred over before you cancel or else you'll end up losing whatever is in it. I made the mistake of cancelling my Amex a bit early last time and ended up losing 300 Qantas pts. Not much but would still have liked the points to transfer across first then cancel.

    • +1

Pretty much, so $700 in points from a sale in OzB forums standpoint, or whatever you would get for flights, which is worth a few hundred more than that.

  • Perth boy who visits daughter no.2 in Cairns once/year or for this twice within one year then flies onto Bali to connect onwards…may I ask: Would I necessarily have to be holding a Qantas itinerary to enter the lounge OR just show the pass? Would one expect the lounge to be open with no outgoing Qantas flights due?

    • +1

Priority Pass lounge can be access regardless of what airline you fly.

      • Thanks

        • +1

And the reason you can do this is because it's not a Qantas lounge.

  • Link not working still

    • Yes, been trying and trying. C'mon Citi!

  • -1

Probably a good thing it doesn't work yet - as the site doesn't mention free annual fee for the first year.

You pay a reduced rate of either $99 or $350 (depending on which card you choose) plus $49 for the Citi Qantas Rewards Program fee for the first year

    • +1

The deal doesn't mention the first year annual fee is waived either so I'm not sure what you're saying?

      • +4

oh u make a very good point. My ozb eyes must be getting use to free annual fees for the first year

  • +1

    What about this ANZ offer?

75,000 QFF points (first year fee waived)
    Only $2,500 spend in 3-months

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

    • +1

That is here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236581 , and yes a better deal.

    • +5

yep that's a better deal but most of us aren't eligible as most ozb'ers probably had an ANZ card from a previous offer in the last 12 months

  • +1

I have the annual fee free signature card, but it has a poor earn rate. $395 is a bit rich, but Citibank are pretty good on waiving annual fees. (Ring them every year if you can be bothered) Their CC overseas travel insurance is good in that as long as your outgoing trip is purchased with it (even through paypal) then you are covered. PP lounges overseas have a wide network.

    • wow you've been getting fee free each year even though it's meant to cost $395 in annual fees. Are Diners Club card part of the Citibank mob? Would be nice to get that waived.

      • Free?! I thought getting my Altitude Black for the same fee as the Platinum was good.

        • That's how the rich get richer. They avoid fees where possible.

      • Diners club is owned by Citibank. It is great for the free lounges. Costs $135 per year annual fee. I have never tried to get fee waiver on it.

    • PP lounges overseas have a wide network.

Which is inversely proportional to the network in Aus.
I thought I was stupid or something for not being able to find the lounge (listing) for Mel or Syd!

      • Not to confuse things but there is an Amex lounge in Sydney that is run by Priority Pass, but only accessible by certain Amex card holders.

        • It's an average lounge. I chose to use that instead of the one next to it a few months ago and regretted it.

        • @snuke: Instead of the SkyTeam one you mean?

        • @illumination:

Yep, that is the one. China Air flight. The Amex lounge is tiny, smaller food range, crap food range, crappier than SkyTeam one.
I asked the Amex attendee, and he said he works in both, and the Amex one is better. He was full of shite.

        • @snuke: I've never been to the SkyTeam one before but I would agree that the AMEX one is "average" on a scale of lounges. Personally, I find it pretty good and sufficient, but it is definitely a step down from other premium lounges.

I think it really depends on your expectations, and previous lounge experiences. I have been to some great lounges before, but when I'm flying a budget carrier like Scoot or AirAsia out of Sydney, I'm more than happy getting AMEX lounge access!

        • @illumination:

It is better than not being in a lounge for sure. It's not crap. The China Air one in Taipei, is large, decent showers etc.. but horrific food offering.

    • Do they usually waive the credit card fee and still charge you the $49 for the Qantas/Citi Rewards program or do they waive the whole thing?

  • Anyone know when this offer expires?

    • Yes, the OP has listed it, have a look.

  • Good deal if you aren't eligible for the ANZ offer

    • +1

Or if you have already done and cancelled the ANZ deal.

      • +1

Or if you have the ANZ offer and still want more points.
