It's on again. Normally Specsavers sell you 2 pairs of glasses. (e.g. Starting at $149 for 2 pairs)

What if you only want one pair? The answer is to wait for this sale!

With this deal (for example) you can buy one pair of glasses in the "2 for $149" range for $74.50.

Things like bifocals or upgraded lenses are normally charged per pair, so they are not affected by this offer.

Fine print:

"When choosing 1 pair from a selected range from our $149 glasses range or above, or our $199 prescription sunglasses range or above. Price complete with standard single vision lenses. Multifocals and bifocals also available at an extra cost. Other lens types and extra options not included. Offer ends 3rd July 2016. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer including 2 pairs for 1 low price. Frames available while stocks last. See in store for full details."

50% off if You Buy One Pair of Glasses Only

So if you buy more pairs, do you pay full price for all of them?

    • +2

The deal is that you can buy single pairs of glasses for 1/2 the price of buying 2 pairs. Normally you must buy 2 pairs at a time at Specsavers.

If you normally buy glasses 2 pairs at a time, then this deal is probably not of interest to you. (Although it may be of interest of you buy them 3 pairs at a time…)

      • +2

That's not what the title says.

        • +2

Yeah really it's a "one for the price of one" deal, which doesn't sound like a deal, but for Specsavers, it is!

        • +1

          @ebenezer7:

Maybe you should remove the word 'only'…

  • Probably works in your favour (if, like me), if you choose two pairs from different ranges.

For example, last year I got one pair from the $199 and one from the $249. Needless to say, I had to pay the $249 price (less private health rebates, etc). My son was in the same boat…except I get to pay for him as well.

    • I've never had a problem getting them from different ranges, they still gave me a good deal.

how do this $70 suuny compare with the cheapie $20 sunny?

    • Their sunglasses are only suitable for prescription lenses.

    • +1

the difference is they meet the australian standards for uv protection. If you buy a cheap pair, they can do more harm than good as you pupils will dilate with the tint.

  • This is only selected frames, right? I was in there the other day, there was only a small range with red stickers that I was told were 50% off. Unfortunately most of the ones I wanted still looked to be full price.

    • +1

Yes, there are a lot of exclusions.

  • +10

The title is very confusing. Should it read 50% of when opting to get one pair?

    • +1

      Yes.

+1 to OP for modelling a pair in their profile pic

Spec savers and probably most other similar companies do have a dodgy sales practise.
My Health fund provides me with about $139/year towards spectacles. Spec Savers lets me choose 1 pair of prescription reading glasses gap free from the $149 range.
If I offer to pay the extra $10 they will not let me have 2 pairs from the $149 range but wish to charge me about $75.

I think they know I will spend my health fund no matter what and they can maximise their profits by not letting me upgrade the offer to their non health fund deals.

    • +1

Strange. You'd think that it wouldn't matter to them where the $149 comes from?

Or maybe it has something to do with the health fund only paying a certain percentage for each pair of glasses up to a maximum of $139 a year?

      • Yes could be something like that.
My health fund is HBF (mainly a WA health fund)

1 pair of glasses a year is probably all I need anyway. I have about 10 pairs floating around the house/car and work which are all still functional.

    • +2

Just pay with cash and then claim manually with your health fund if they're doing this.

    • The way the partnered health funds work with Specsavers (BUPA, Medibank, HCF, HBF etc) is that they will pay an amount towards the two pair deal whether it be percentage or cash amount. In addition to the amount towards the glasses, the partnership with Specsavers means they get additional discounts on frame, lens and extras. In your case Roary, HBF-Specsaver partnerships gives you more discounts with a one pair deal that with the two pair deal. Hope that clears things up a bit :)

When is the next special on contact lenses?

I've been keeping my eye out for sometime now and they used to be so regular with contact lens specials.

  • +1

I'd recommend purchasing from Clearly, they have cheap and imo good quality prescriptions and you can return the glasses if you are unsatisfied with the product, free return shipping etc.

I've gone to specsavers in the past about 4 years ago, when it came to last year where they set me up with a new prescription the lenses were even worse than what they were before and the staff were pretty unhelpful. Clearly lenses seem to be pretty good quality and the prices are quite reasonable.

    • I just tried a quote from Clearly. Clearly, it is more than what I paid for Specsavers ($199 for 2 pairs), as opposed to $149 for 1 pair.

      • +1

Clearly are great for moderate strength (+3 to -3), if your prescription is too strong for the free standard lenses you have to wait for a promo on free thin lenses however (last one was November 2015). I am hoping for a EOFY promo soon for my daughter's next pair (+4.5 in one eye). I got her a pair of Lacoste frames from Clearly with free high index lenses (normally $99) for a total of $89 delivered. Much better than Specsavers where she can only have the plastic frames and thick Trivex lens (metal frames too thin for her prescription).

wowww… please post that on ozbargain when that deal comes again. I need the strong prescription lenses too!

        • +1

@purplelady: $99 is actually a really good price for the lenses (compared to OPSM who wanted $299 for EACH lens!). The only comparable price for the thin lenses is Zenni optical but they don't do any branded kids frames or I would have used them instead

        • @dp1:

hmmmm true… i have allowance of $180, so it should really cover mine.

Thanks dp1, will check it out!

Don't mean to be a buzzkill, just be wary that ordering glasses online with prescriptions stronger than +/-3 that they can be quite inaccurate in terms of fitting and optical centres etc. If you are going to order online, please go into a store and ask for a pupil distance measurement at least. It can be damaging for your vision if your optical centre is off. Otherwise sounds like a sweet deal.

        • @jmarr123:

Do optometrists charge for things like that with prescriptions purchased outside from their store?

        • @Godric:

Not that I am aware of, some of them might not do it but it's definitely worth a try.

        • @jmarr123:

          True true, thanks for info

      • You all need to realise you get what you pay for. Most of the time the cheaper the lenses the lower quality, simple. I suggest before purchasing specs online, check with the website who manufactures their lenses.

    • +2

Why dont u just ask for the same prescription? Thats what i find is best for me. I dont prefer changes either. I had problems claiming my health fund last time with clearly. I'd rather know before paying how much my gap is. I find calculating my tax is easier than my health fund!

  • Offer ends 3rd July 2016.

Make appointment on July 1st. That's when private heath cover resets.

    • Private health cover resets 1st January

      • +2

I'm on AHM top hospital and extras and mine resets July 1st.

I can tell because I got my specs at Specsavers last October and I currently have $1.00 remaining of $200.00 limit.

        Check your limits
Top Hospital + Lifestyle Extras includes individual limits on what you can claim each financial year.

        • +1

Most health funds reset on a new calendar year; several reset on a new financial year.

        • @madak:

          TIL. Thank you.

AHM Members - get in on July 1st :)

  • Does the price include prescription lenses?
I'm in the market for a new pair of prescription glasses, and after doing some research I found Oscar Wylee's $99 a pair pretty reasonable.

    • +1

This price includes prescription lenses that are single vision (i.e. distance or reading). It does not include multifocal, bifocal or access lenses. You can get a single pair of glasses from Specsavers with the lenses included for as little as $39.

  • +1

man, nothing beats the deal from clearlycontact years ago. I got a pair of Lacoste with prescription lenses for 6.95, delivered.

I still remember the old coupon code was FIRSTPAIRFREE.
