  • Nice! I've been thinking about getting a new pair.

  • So the $149 (glasses) becomes $74.50 a pair?

  • Him: Do you drive?
    Me: Yes.
Him: Mmmmmkay. Well, um, you'll be able to drive a lot better once you get your new glasses.

I had just been waiting for a 50% off offer. No harm in that is there?

  • +7

I'm hanging out for a contact lens deal again. I am on to my last pack.

    • +3

You should stock up with at least 6 boxes if there's a 50% off deal on. There can often be 3 months in between the real good deals (better than 25%/33% off).

    • same same… gonna try to stretch out these monthly's lol, after all I only wear them ever other day

    • +1

Jack!! Where are you? I miss you

  • -1

Is this in store and all glasses over 150?

  • +12

superb discount - but thir glasses are still made in China for about $5.00 pair

    • +14

well it saves me a trip from going to china and back

    • +1

Just an FYI: Most of the frames are made in China (just like most others these days), most lenses are made in Thailand (IIRC) and more complicated ones come from Specsavers' European labs - all are cut, fit and distributed from their Melbourne head office.

  • Might grab myself a pair of prescription sunnies …

  • I may or may not work at Specsavers, so let me know if you have any questions I can answer.

    • So what's the deal with the health insurance rebates and 'packages'. For example if I bought a 149 pair and I'm on an NIB 50% plan does it cost me 74.50*50%=37.25 out of pocket? Sorry, find that when you go to some optoms the math isn't as simple and things get packaged up as it costs more and costs less. Thanks bncrbtt!

      • +1

Yes, you get to claim on the final total. So NIB usually pays 60% so if your package is 50,then expect that back. They do allow quotes on the HICAPS machines so you can have them check in store

    • +1

When will be the next round of 50% contact lenses?

      • +1

Stores don't get told anything about the contact lens specials unfortunately. I find out through here!

  • is this any brand, or just the ~5 they've mentioned?

    • Their website says it is from a selected section of their $150+ range, so I expect it isn't available for their whole range, although I'm happy to be corrected

      • It's available across all brands and 50% off all sunglasses.

  • I have my prescription on hand from last tests.

Where is a cheap place to buy online?
    Like $30 a pair? Or keep dreaming…?

  • +2

I just buy from the $39 range. Easy.

    • I would do that too, but they are never big enough for my fat head.

      • Haven't tried specsavers yet but will. Been wearing glasses 20+ years and only in the last 5 encountered the fat head problem. Was getting headaches and optom was just saying it'll take time for vision to break in new script. During that time, went for crew cut, and noticed how much the glasses arms leave a mark on the side of my head, like a tan line. So all along the scripts were fine, just the glasses were tight as. Adjustment needed about an inch each arm, and feels like its barely hanging onto my face, but at least no headache.

  • If I get a frame from their 50% off range and my lenses has to be thin(because my eyesight is so bad) will this promotion still work? I'm just worried about the wording of "standard single vision lenses" part of this promotion.

    • +1

If you get rimless glasses ($399 range), it comes with their 1.6 index lens. Whereas the cheaper ones just comes with standard lens and you need to pay upgrades for higher index lens (even though it is still 50% off). Have a look at my comments further down below.

    • You won't get any discounts on extras, 50% applies to frame and single vision lens (unless rimless)

    • e.g. Suppose you want "extra thin and light lenses" at $120 per pair. This is what I want.

The lense "upgrade" is not discounted, but you pay per pair anyway.

      Normally 2 pairs at $199 plus 2 x $120 = $439

      Now 1 pair at $99.50 plus 1 x $120 = $219.50

The value of this deal is that of you only want 1 pair you only pay for 1.

  • Having purchased glasses from Specsavers and Zennioptical I honestly prefer the latter. Cheaper prices and better variety of styles to choose from.

If you're ambivalent on online purchases, you should use a printout of your latest prescription and compare the frame measurements to what you currently have. Am now down from spending >$100 for a pair of glasses to ~$43 plus shipping and antiglare + antiscratch hydrophobic coating.

    • Do you mean less than 100?

  • +2

I normally buy their rimless classes which is at $399 category. It automatically comes with 1.6 index lens (cheaper glasses doesn't and you need to pay extra). I paid an upgrade to 1.67, and with Medibank discount and my $200 limit, I only paid $44.95 for my rimless glasses with 1.67 index lens. Absolute bargain.

Pretty much every year I buy one of this when there is 50% off glass at Specsavers. Everywhere else is too expensive for my needs.

  • I went into my local store, and there were like 3 pairs out of 20 that were discounted…

    • That sounds completely wrong, I can guarantee you a huge amount should be discounted

      • Sorry, let me clarify.

3 pairs from the mens range in the $149 section :)

  • So associate, what range of the glasses from specsaver have made in china frames/thailland lens? I assume it's the lower range $149-$199.

How about the branded ones as well as the specsaver ultraflex?

I thought they are all pentax lens as advised??

    • All lenses are single vision pentax. Rimless have a 1.6 high index lens included in the $399 - more complicated lenses like 1.67,1.74, transitions, multifocals can often come from overseas and then assembled in house in Port Melbourne

  • When is the next 50% off contact lens special? It's been a month since the last one. I'm willing to stock up on a few boxes.

  • Went in for a browse the other day and came across the Fineform range. I was pleasantly surprised at how light and comfortable they were, unfortunately none of them were on sale and at $399 I had to decline. Do these ever come on sale, because I would definitely pick one up if they were 50% off. I think I only saw one that was discounted from all the $399 range.

  • Hi bncrbtt - are Karen Miller womens glasses discounted as well? Or just the range available on the website?

    • Selected frames across the whole range. You'd have to go in and check.
