Beware that Netflix has moved to block VPN services and many, including mine, has stopped working with Getflix.

    • +2

Answered my question 19 seconds before I posted it :-)

    • +3

Yep, mine is now useless (Australian)

You're signing up for a service that is fundamentally broken.

      • +6

You know this going in it's fine. Personally, if I get the error on one server, a quick change of servers (or even regions depending on the show) works a treat and so far I've only had one instance of this happening. Getflix seem to be playing whackamole with them effectively enough.

Besides, I use their service for more than just Netflix and most of the Netflix content I watch now are their original series. So I have little need to change servers.

        • +3

I concur, change of servers which takes a couple mins to do allows me to access the "right" netflix

      • That's a shame, mine still works for US Netflix, with promises to fix UK, Canada and Brazil soon. It also currently works for Hulu, Disney Anywhere, and network websites such as CBS. Just because Netflix is partially blocked the service is still useful.

      • Change servers, easy peasy and fixed. Guide is on the website.

        • Yeah I don't need a guide for that, I've been using this service for ages.

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: …trying to help mate. Worked for me.

        • @ilikeit: I understand, not meaning to sound upset if you took it like that. Just saying I'm a long term user and have knowledge on how it works.

    • Despite posting this deal I actually just prefer using local Netflix, with it being unshaped with iinet it doesn't affect the quota :) when I trialed Getflix, the quota went up too much :(

      • -3

Local netflix library is so poor.

As to quotas I don't understand why people don't have unlimited plans these days.

And I wouldn't touch that other company, at least Getflix will put up a fight even though their model will go under if Netflix keeps on being aggressive.

        • +9

Local netflix library is so poor.

For the price per month, it's great value for our family

As to quotas I don't understand why people don't have unlimited plans these days.

Off-net means paying more per month, no naked DSL etc. Why pay more, to then pay more for a Getflix-like service? Working out the $$s it's not worth it.

So appreciate what works for you, but what works for you doesn't apply to everyone. So go be judgmental elsewhere

        • -2

@Spackbace: With a smartDNS service you're getting the most value for your money. Why did you post a deal about smartDNS service if you don't use?

TPG is so cheap, even with naked DSL you may as well hop onto one of their plans.

        • +7

          @GameChanger:

TPG is so cheap, even with naked DSL you may as well hop onto one of their plans.

I'm off-net! I stated this! Only a handful of ISPs offer a service, and they charge more for it!

With a smartDNS service you're getting the most value for your money.

I still don't see the value of it! Why should I pay more when I'm happy with what I have? Are you gonna pay for it for me?

Why did you post a deal about smartDNS service if you don't use?

Because in terms of value for money, they all offer the same service. So US$29 < US$59 - No brainer really. I saw what looked like a good deal, so I shared it, is that a bad thing?

        • @Spackbace: Perhaps think of your children, the Australian library is a joke compared to the other countries.

If we had more people rejecting the Australian version, perhaps we wouldn't get such a mediocre one.

        • +4

@Spackbace: I am downvoting you just for using those stupid bold type…

          @dogboy:

          How about this?

Though here, +1 for admitting you negged me, rather than those users (who always ask for transparency) negging me in the shadows!

        • -1

@Spackbace: Increasing the front size and bolding it doesn't convey a point any better.

        • @GameChanger:

Sorry, I thought it would make it clearer to read since you missed it the first time.

        • +2

          @GameChanger:
Won't somebody think of the children!

        • @GameChanger: funny you say 'think of the children', when AU Netflix gets Pixar movies before any other region

        • -1

@Mik: Well you get access to Aus Netflix still under Getflix…

      • IInet are trying to get out of that now. They recently brought out new pricing for VDSL and it was $10 cheaper per month but wouldn't include Netflix in free zone.

I was ok with that considering I barely use 50% of my 1TB a month (the only plan I can get other than a pitiful 100GB plan)

        • Bugger :/ But if they get rid of Netflix free quota, I'd hope that put the quota limits up!

        • @Spackbace: For me it was same quota $10 cheaper a month.

But they only offer 2 types of quotas for VDSL, 100GB or 1TB.

    • +3

UnblockUS recently stopped working after ~3 years and tried GetFlix but also not working :( Guess it is back to Pirate life for me…

      • When mine eventually goes down, I refuse to pay for the Australian library.

Netflix really need to loosen up on their crack down.

      • +1

I default to Canada. Seems to have a lot of the same stuff as the US, but better movies too. Netflix don't seem to be as eager to block you there.

      • +1

Try dns4me.net … not many people know about it and I use it to watch the foxtel-exclusive NRL. Sets you back ~24 bucks for an entire year and its locally owned and ran. I believe it works with Netflix and they offer a free trial. Also, it won't slow you down like a VPN does.

        • 2nd this. I had lifetime getflix and when i started having issues i gave dns4me a go… no issues with it so far.

Works well for hulu as well

        • I'm still using Getflix for the footy. Works a treat.

        • Yep, I've been trialling them and so far so good.

        • @ilikeit: Getflix does work, but with dns4me you're getting the same product at a fraction of the price, unless of course you look at it in the long run and get the lifetime subscription for Getflix (which also includes a VPN, which probably isn't great). The guys over at dns4me are from the WP forums and their service is quite good. They also include a sniffer with custom domain geo-dodging and you can have multiple IPs set as active. Their support is also quite prompt I find. I just prefer to be giving my money to them.

        • @bananabendera: Will consider when my sub runs out. have bookmarked. I like you can have 3 separate locations. eg work, home, anywhere.

        • @ilikeit: Yes it is nice, it means I can set a friend's IP so they can watch the footy too! All of that was just my two cents though. I've never had Getflix personally but I've had nothing but a great experience with dns4me.

hello all, getflix still works very well although if you're using a roku or a chromestick you'll have to add some static routes or some firewall rules into your router so that your device actually contacts Getflix's DNS service.. if you like i can dig up the instructions for you

      • I agree, I haven't had a problem since I started using the static routes.

    • +1

Have you guys tried the US or UK Test servers in the 'Region' setting? A while back my account was flagged and wouldn't work with any of the available DNS servers, but I'm currently using "United States (TEST 1)" with no problems :)

      • Yep, and also the static routes = still no go :(

        • ah that sucks then :(

yeah it's all a bit crap atm. blocking google's dns in our router doesn't work for me anymore with the chromecast using netflix on android, but weirdly enough works from an ipad… using the test server still works on firefox and chrome; for now anyway

    • .double post

  • Does this still work with Netflix since they started cracking down on Proxy and VPN services?

    • Mine has been working fine (was a bit on and off for a few weeks though) but that's only using Netflix US. Using a Samsung F8500 and Nvidia Shield TV.

  • +1

mine did stop working, but it is working flawlessly now after setting up static dns.
just look up their help page or send them a ticket (actually quite surprised at how quick they responded)

  • While our US Netflix access hasn't stopped working, we experienced enough intermittent errors (error 139 particularly) that we ended up dropping UbBlockUS recently. We're now test driving a few different providers, see what's up.

Whirlpool has enough threads from people struggling with similar errors with both UnblockUS and Getflix to make me wary of signing up long term to any of them.

  • it's like playing cat and mouse if you're trying to use for Netflix.
You could be in the middle of watching a movie when the service suddenly stopped and you can't resume the movie.
It happened when I used the UK region.

The US might be better though, since they have a number of alternatives.
UK only has 2, every other region just one (so pretty much useless).

If you use it for other service (CBS, CW TV, ABC, etc) it's fine though.

  • probably why its so cheap. Im close to cutting off netflix soon, there just that much on in the Aus library, im struggling to find anything I like.

  • Haven't had any issues with Getflix on my laptop, but my Apple tv has been struggling for weeks now

  • Can I connect from the one point to the VPN multiple times ie 3 diff PCs in one house to different VPN connections or do they only allow one to be active?

    • only one account per household as it goes through the ip address.

      • one account per household is fine (I have a household of 1) .. but it doesn't answer my question of making multiple outgoing VPN connections. Say my NAS to switzerland and my TV to USA, and my laptop to USA - all at the same time.

  • +4

I'm going to put in a good word for this company. I find their service to be very good, however due to Netflix's attempts to block VPN's etc, there has been intermittent errors whilst using my Apple TV 4. But if you are persistent and keep trying the after a couple of go's it works fine. Getflix is also great for Livestream.com and watching live/replays of NRL and international cricket such as Starsports. There is an app that allows you to change location and Netflix catalogue. Similar as you would for Private Internet Access. Forgive my technical jargon if it is incorrect, but I have mine configured as a static DNS IP with my D-Link router and works great for all devices. Their customer service is also good.

Take the advice for someone who uses the product everyday. The product is good and works as it should. There are occasional technical issues brought about by circumstances beyond their control, however they are generally quick to rectify technical faults. After 6 months of using my lifetime subscription bought from stacksocial, I'm very happy and so is the Mrs.

    • I used it everyday, I find now that even with jumping through hoops it still doesn't work. The only proper fix is to add a static route to your router. Unfortunately the countries biggest broadband provider has updated the FW of its routers to stop people doing this early last year. At the very least Getflix should make people aware of this in a proper fashion. I guess new customers can figure it out for themselves by using the two week trial though. Just hope nobody gets caught up in one of these promotions though and wastes $60 on it without testing it first.

      • Try another router, maybe?

Getflix still works fine. If yours doesn't then that's on your end.

        • It's not just on my end, its on every Telstra router. That's a lot. Look at some of the other comments saying the same before you tell me the problem is mine.

  • +1

Mine isn't working anymore even with the static routes etc. Have cancelled my Netflix but was going to try some of the other streaming services through getflix like Amazon Prime, Hulu, ABC, WWE, HBO NOW, HBO GO, BBC, iTV, Zattoo, Pandora…
Can anyone suggest the better ones?

    • how many routes did you add ?

  • here is the instructions for adding static routes to your router to allow getflix to work on all your devices https://www.getflix.com.au/netflix-update

    • Doesn't work with Telstra routers though.

      • +1

i know its not for telstra's Technicolor modems but you might like to try this method http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/207897

you should be able to add firewall rules on technicolor modems if you go to the advanced tab, click on the firewall window, then move the 'firewall level' to high then the rules table should appear if you scroll down a little.

        • I'll give it a go cheers.

        • +1

you could also buy a cheap second modem/router, connect it to your telstra router via ethernet and set the DNS address on the second router like i did with my spare one

and if you only plan to watch on a computer you shouldn't need to set static routes, good luck

        • @P3aker:
Yeah we don't watch on the PC, also I really don't want another router if it can be helped. More clutter.

  • Perhaps someone can help me as I have a rather complicated setup. Have been longtime UnblockUS and US Netflix user.

ADSL2+ Modem from Optus is plugged into the line in the house in a concrete cellar so its WiFi is turned off as range is poor.
Via LAN 8 Port Switcher in Lounge kick arse Netgear WiFI router does most of house.
From LAN via EOP attic room has old Telstra Modem for separate WiFi net. I did try normal extenders but they confused SONOS system thinking everything was on different WiFi nets.

Previously have just done DNS setting changes on devices iPad & PS3/4 as previous houses Optus Cable WiFI Router could not change DNS settings.

So If I want to add static routes do I do this on Netgear router in Lounge? LAN switch? Optus Router in Celler where ADSL2+ comes in?

    • hi there, i haven't had the need to set static routes on my setup (which is similar to yours) all i did was set the DNS addresses in the 'LAN' or 'Network' section of switch and made all my devices connect that.. if that doesn't work for you then you should be able to set the routes on your switch.

If all else fails you may be able to add firewall rules to block all the public DNS services so that devices are forced to use the one you set on your switch.

      good luck !

    • Do it on whatever devices is doing your routing.

  • Anyone know What's their VPN like for torrenting?

    • +1

Well I used it on launch day and it was quite good, a few days later when people started using it on mass it was useless. Haven't tried since but as it's a free service for subbers then don't expect much.

    • +1

my friend uses it often, hes always spoke highly of it.. not all their 200 VPN services are meant for torrenting they only have a select bunch and from what i remember their closet VPN torrenting service is in netherlands

      • Sweet, thanks for the info. Heard the Netherlands is the go to server for most places. And this seemed like a pretty good price. But not sure if I should go with something like TorGuard or Nordvpn..

        • +1

getflix has 2 weeks trials, i guess that'd be your best option

  • I have no problem using it on my Nexus 6p, Windows PC, Nexus player, Fire Tv 1 or Nvidia Shield TV. Use the test settings. They try and keep them up to date. I've had no problems using the updated settings. No need to block Netflix DNS so far. Fingers crossed

  • +1

I'm already subscribed. I won't be renewing when it expires in 2 months. For me, the only overseas region still working is the USA. Every other region is blocked. It looks like Getflix is targeting popular (ie. USA) regions only and not worrying about playing whack a mole with the rest of the world. Which is a shame as I barely watch content from the USA, most of the shows/movies my kids like are from Canada or UK.

And my hulu account is about to die as well, the credit card I registered with many years ago expired, when I went to update my billing details I got an error stating that I need to use an American registered credit card. So.. they can't take any more money out of my account now, we'll see how long it'll be before they cancel my service.

So long story short, I'm back to pirating.

    • Sign up for a US PayPal, it will accept your Australian credit card without issue.

That's what I did a few months back as I couldn't update my credit card for my sister's Hulu account. But made a US PayPal and haven't had an issue since.

    • I read on Getflix Facebook they are still working on Canada, UK and a few select countries. I just signed up for 3 months to give them a chance/more time and also to monitor access to US NF. Only then will I consider a lifetime subscription. Keen to try NF Canada as I heard positive feedback.

  • Despite not using it much, I decided to go ahead with this deal.

However when trying to apply it to my old Getflix account I got: "Error: This promo code can only be applied to new/trial accounts."

I was debating whether or not to create a new account and in the end decided to log a ticket with Appsumo as I cant see anywhere that says new signups only. Worst case scenario is that they dont honour it and refund my money.
