  • Laptop price match at Officeworks could save another ~$10.

      Worth a try, although that one is in Black. You know how Officeworks would use any product difference to deny price match…

      • OW don't have this in stock anywhere I think. I tried buying it a few weeks back as a replacement buy for my dead Ideapad but could not buy it on their website.

  • Haven't been keeping up… Is there still $25 voucher for newsletter sign up?

  • Shame, no USB3.0 ports is a killer for me.

    • +13

      Yeah, no touchscreen or USB type-C, Ethernet port, Blu-ray drive, GPU really kills the deal.
      Shame

      • +3

        The real killer for me was no QHD, perhaps some other peasant can benefit from this low-grade laptop.

      • In this category of machine, most competitors have a USB3.0 port.
        (i.e. Dell Inspiron Y511230AU, Asus VivoBook E200HA-FD0004TS, HP Stream 11-r008tu)

      Well, someone was bound to complain about something this laptop didn't have.

      • +4

        Of course, for a $218 we will make no compromises!

        • +1

          For $199, I'd understand. But def needs a USB3 for $218 :p

          @amts:
          With under 16Gb of storage available, you can copy the whole HDD in under 4mins with USB2 so I'm not seeing why it is particularly necessary.

          @mskeggs:

          It isn't, some people just want everything for nothing.

        • +5

          no inbuilt keyboard finger massager!?!?

          grounds for a neg vote

        • +1

          @mskeggs: Sarcasm meter broken?

        • @amts:
          I would buy it for $218 if it had a sarcasm meter.

    Bought the 100s after Xmas for $203 from hn. Would be great with usb 3 and a full size sd slot but the price was great. Battery lasts 10+ has WiFi off video with vlc, or similar for Web stuff with wireless on. Works well on domestic flights for entertainment as it fits on the tray tables on regional flights. Would buy again.

  • Bought this a while back from OW. It was not a good experience right from day one. I bought it for my daughter for school and the laptop had constant issues with wifi, trackpad, keyboard and power management. Very unreliable. One fine day it would not charge although it would get hot near the bottom. Returned it for full refund within 2 months. Never have I had a laptop die on me like that. I'd avoid it.

      Sounds like you just had a bad egg, it happens with every electronic device ever produced.

  • Would this be good for streaming chromecast from channels 10 / 9 / 7 and basic web browsing?

    • I bought the Asus EeeBook for $199 during last special very similar spec no far no problem, Just sometime a little bit lag during browsing facebook.

      • Went and had a look at the 3 models mentioned in this deal and ended up grabbing the Acer Switch. I hope I made the right choice, seems pretty solid. I am trying to upgrade to Win 10 but its been stuck at 16% for a while now.

  • Bought the HP x2 during the last sale in February. Very good product except the wifi is very weak compared to other devices in the house. Not sure if there is a software fix for it. The touchscreen can be a bit slow sometimes but I don't have any other device to compare it with.

      Is the touchscreen slow or just the system in general? I had to remove quite a few programs to get the tablet to a usable state out of the box, where RAM usage was at 85-90% without any apps open. After removing all of the HP programs (went through programs and features and removed everything I don't use), it runs great- idling <50% ram usage and very responsive.

  • Thanks. I might try doing that. It may be that the system is plagued with crap ware.
