Virgin Australia is offering complimentary lounge access for over 60s flying Monday-Thursday, 11am-3pm in May & June.

For a limited time only, if you’re over 60 you can access our lounges free of charge when you travel off-peak. You can even share this experience with your friends and family. If you’re flying with anyone under 60, they are also granted complimentary access as long as you all book tickets together under the same reservation.

Fine wine, a premium buffet menu, private bathroom facilities, and freshly made barista tea & coffee are yours to enjoy.

Qquote SNR60 when you make a booking over the phone. Or if you’re booking your holiday online, simply select the Over 60's Lounge Pass in the booking path. If eligible, you’ll then receive a confirmation email, which will be sent through separately to your travel documents.

When you arrive you’ll need to provide your lounge access confirmation email and a form of photo ID/Senior’s card. Lounge access is redeemable for all domestic economy flights at any of the following departure locations: Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Darwin, Cairns, Alice Springs, and Mackay. Complimentary access to the lounge will be valid for travel between May and June 2016.

Please note this offer is not applicable for the Adelaide lounge.

My first bargain posting so I hope it's useful. I'm a Velocity Platinum and quite enjoy their lounges.

Time to bring out that fake ID I had made up when I was 16…

.. No, the bouncers did not believe I was 68 years old and yes, I was out of pocket $200.

  • Perth not listed either.

    • +18

They usually dont make it to 60 in Perth…

        • +1

According to all the people who have negged you, you're pretty unable to understand a joke.

        • -5

          @bercilak: weak "joke"

        • +1

@bercilak: Actually to be a joke there should be some context to it being funny. Otherwise every comment made could be clasified as joke.

e.g. Not available in Perth as

          60 YO's have peak-ed in Perth

          Deal is only

free of charge when you travel off-peak.

        • +1

          @RockyRaccoon:
I was replying in the context of hashtagbargain's comment saying "They usually dont make it to 60 in Perth" and how silly it was to take that comment seriously enough to look up and post ABS data to refute what seemed an obviously sarcastic reason for the lack of availability in Perth. It was not in the context of the entire deal. Hence why it's below that comment and not its own comment strain…
Thanks for taking the time to reply 4 days later with more evidence that people just don't understand sarcasm these days…

        • @bercilak: I understand what the first person was saying - but to be funny it has to have some context. and there is no context in the statement they made.

Hence it's hard for everyone to understand they were joking with just written words. Like using /s or (?)

Absolutely agree there is no need to quote ABS figures but thats not what you said in your reply.

As for being 4 days late, cut seniors some slack :)

  • +5

For ten seconds I thought it was for 60 seconds…

  • +23

    Ageism

  • Great deal for those eligible.

While it's obvious to those that fly a lot and use lounges, you might want to highlight that you need to be flying Virgin with a flight number starting "VA"

  • +2

Virgin are discriminating against younger people, deal should be applied to everyone.

    • +1

      And Student Flights dont ?!!

      • -1

To get student/young person discounts on flights, you generally need to be a student or under 25 (sometimes under 30). Judging by kevin22's comment, he appears to want this discount to be 'applied to everyone', which would include people in the 30-60 bracket, who currently don't receive a student discount.

        • +2

Yep I know. My point is not everyone is entitled to everything…….. and so the winners can laugh, and the losers can please themselves.

        • -1

@peck: Then why didn't simply say that to start off with? I hate to say it, but 'And Student Flights dont ?!!' doesn't exactly make the point you were trying to make.

        • +2

          @Nightshade:
I thought the point was made pretty clearly…

        • -1

@bercilak: Then you're missing my point. peck wasn't making a point about entitlement like he claims - what he said is completely irrelevant to his stated point.

Saying "And Student Flights dont ?!!" in response to "Virgin are discriminating against younger people, deal should be applied to everyone." is making an argument that freebies for seniors are somehow okay because students get discounts for something completely different.

More simply, in case you haven't got it by now: peck is saying 'two wrongs make a right'.

          That's my point.

        • +1

@Nightshade: Nah dude, I'm sorry to point out that you are indeed the one who has not interpreted the meaning correctly in this case.

You might need to have a glass of warm milk, then sleep on it & have a little think about what was actually being implied by Peck in this context.

        • -1

@StewBalls: No need for the condescension - I honestly can't see how someone could come to the conclusion from the comment "And Student Flights dont ?!!" that peck was trying to communicate that not everyone is entitled to everything (which is actually a sentiment I agree with).

Peck says: "And Student Flights dont ?!!"

I read: "I'm still butthurt someone gets something I don't."

So, in other words, just garden-variety bitterness.

Let's look at your so-called context:

          kevin22 says:

Virgin are discriminating against younger people, deal should be applied to everyone.

          peck says:

          And Student Flights dont ?!!

Care to explain how you reach your 'self-evident' viewpoint? Clear steps, please.

        • +1

@Nightshade: Still don't get it do you? Calm yourself down & people might start addressing you as an adult. Nobody will be inclined to go out of their way to explain anything to you whilst you're ranting irrationally.

Your poor comprehension is not our issue, and spoonfeeding angry little people fairly simple concepts on a Sunday morning isn't my idea of fun. Maybe ask your parents to help you! ;)

        • @Nightshade: It was sarcasm !

      • It's the entitled generation…plenty of take, they're just not so keen on the give! ;)

  • -7

    Targeted offer - no deal.

  • I shouls wait 32 years before i can get free access to virgin lounge. Tooooooooo loooooooong

    • +13

Use the reminder feature under the deal.

    • +1

In 32 years, with personal jetpacks and flying cars, "we won't need lounges".

  • +2

Could take 3 weeks for confirmation. My oldies wont live long enough

  • +2

    its time to get old

    • +2

damn, I can still remember when it was time to get loud.

I don't remember what that was, only that it was a 90's thing.

  • +3

    But I feel 60…

I did a medical test the other day that said my Heart age is 58.
    (does any of that count?)

    • I did a medical test the other day that said my Heart age is 58.

I do hope that's not significantly above your chronological age!

      • +1

<50, and I'm probably gonna be banned from Priceline for trying to bribe their Health Station. lol

        • Maybe speak to your GP about improving your general health, and possible referral on to a Cardiologist, if you haven't already. I hope you can get back on track soon!

    • Son, lay off the alcohol and cigarettes and get back to class! :-)

    • +1

"I'm sorry sir, your heart is welcome to enter, but the rest of you will have to wait here."

  • Isn't this a targeted offer? Lame!

  • How many people here are over 60?

    • +1

      Some are …

    • +1

      More than you may realise…

  • +5

Hope the lounge has enough defibrillators

  • +5

Obviously there's too many old people in Adelaide, Virgin realised they'd take a big hit if offered here…
    Could just see it now:
Airport jammed by masses of walkers, bus to airport (which is free for oldies too!) showing 'full', queues out the door of the Virgin lounge as voices from inside can be heard shouting
"SPEAK UP DEAR, I CAN'T HEAR VERY WELL"

    • +1

      Perfect dramatization

      • +1

        "WHAT? I SAID SPEAK UP!"

        • PERFECT DRAMATIZATION IF YOU CAN HEAR ME!

        • +1

          @Bearosaurus:

Did you know Wendy's grandson used to work fot Virgin. Bless his heart…. queue 45 minute pointless story

… i think it's going to rain…. the knee is playing up.

  • +4

They should do this for people's birthdays.

  • This is discrimination let's sue

  • the free lounge access is only for those who are flying with Virgin, right ?

    • Yes.

    • +1

Why would Virgin pay to give free food and drink to people that are flying on a competitor's airline?

  • -3

Great more old farts hogging the bathroom with their weak bladders

    • -1
    • I find that comment extremely offensive. My plumbing is in perfect working order.

      • You'll be right old fella. In 10 minutes you would not even remember.

    • +1

revisit that comment in 40 years time and see if you still think the same way

      • Nah the internet wont exist in 40 years. That being said neither will any of the oldies who get into the lounge on this deal. The only flying they will be doing is either up to the big man in the sky or down to the eternal burn.

        • Wow, you're still whining like a toddler about this deal after 3 days…you really are quite butthurt about this deal, aren't you princess? Truly pathetic…get over yourself.

        • @StewBalls: Feeling the love from you…oh and your envy. Perhaps Tiger airlines may be more your class.

  • Bummer, I'm flying in July!

  • +2

Great, now the Lounge is going to be filled with entitled boomers for a few months.

    • Shh, it's a plot to make them forget to board the flights and then you can have lots of room.

    • +3

Well, they've gotta spend all that money they made on the housing market somehow…besides, what have you got to worry about, you won't be in there with them, you'll be out with the rest of the povvos! ;)

      • Hmmm, entitled boomer plus entitled ozbargainer, yikes, what a combo

        • +2

          entitled boomer plus entitledprofessional ozbargainer

          There, fixed that for you.

  • EDIT: Sorry! I totally missed the whole point of this deal. Ignore my comment!

    • What comment? :P

      • +2

I originally had a question to ask whether or not it's available for 'all domestic tickets' (ie. Tigerair/Jetstar/etc.) and not only Virgin Australia, because I remember T&C say you must have a Virgin Australia flight to enter the lounge.

Then I realised I was stupid and that you get the lounge access by applying for it WHEN you book the Virgin Australia flights….

      • I was just funnin' with you dude, it doesn't matter! :)

  • +1

Well done Virgin. Great move ! :)

  • +1

    Ok quick question:-

    • I'm a 63 year old student. Can I get cheap fares and FoC lounge access?
  • -2

Hopefully they will isolate the old buggers away from us business folk.

    • Who? You mean the likes of Warren Buffett?

      • +1

        Jimmy

    • Just a heads up, you really need to be told explicitly just how monumentally stupid that comment makes you sound…not narcissistic, not elitist, not even arrogant…just plain dumb.

For your edification and future reference…

      • -1

Jealous much? Yes, I am one of the folks at the front of the plane. You know the place where we have the toilet to ourselves.

  • One of those times when it pays to be an old fart

  • The link seems to be defunct to Virgin / Velocity, seems to have disappeared.

  • @mobius, read 2ndeffort's comment above. Don't blink or u will be 40 years older.

  • All you old farts contemplating taking up space in the business lounge, may I suggest that perhaps you take a Bex and have a lie down to consider your position.

    • Well, at least they'll be able to get in there, you certainly won't.

Business folk…ROFLMAO…keep telling yourself that kid, you just might become the only person in the world to believe it! ;)

      • Velocity Platinum since 2010 and you?

  • Can someone tell me more about the magical land of airport lounges for VIP travellers?

    • +1

Free Food, Drinks & Booze. Comfortable seats, showers, toilets etc.

For me and probably many others when you are catching several flights per week it provides some necessary time out. Some folks think we are snobs or elitists but this is our job and a big part of our lives. To me the lounge provides some respite. It is not a perk but a necessity especially when you are away from family for extended times.

      • +1

It's more a space to work for me with a hassle free coffee. Have never really gotten stuck into the booze as I'm usually a bit too busy. I like the shoe shines and scent toilets, although Brisbane doesn't have enough for some reason.

To be honest as long as it doesn't stop me getting on and off the plane first I don't mind. Slowing rapid entry through security in the lounge will be a pain though, I bet this happens. Likewise the valet checkin.

  • Does not apply to existing bookings -:(

So you book and give them your $ months early and they shaft you
