    Is this targeted?

    • +1

      As already mentioned, it's generic.

  • So is it actually $100 off (i.e. you buy $101 worth of good & only pay $1?
Or waqs it like last time where you pay $101, and get $100 worth of flybuy points?

  • +4

This is one where you get $100 off. So if your order was $110, you pay $10. Pretty good deal.

True OzBargainers will look for stuff to buy that is fairly liquid and can be sold on eBay to redeem the value. I actually made a profit. Bought 4 books that were marked down at Coles but selling for more online and got about $110 after shipping/fees etc.

    • It's valid for BI-LO as well.

To redeem the $100 off you must scan your flybuys barcode on the back of your new Coles MasterCard and spend a minimum spend of $100.05 after savings and discounts in one transaction at Coles Supermarkets or BI-LO (excluding smoking/tobacco product purchases and all gift cards). $100 off can only be used once and expires on 30 September 2016. • What if I don't have flybuys card?

        • coles MC comes with flybuy included (behind).

    • Nice….

  • Is this the card with the 2 years price protection and insurance?

    • Yep

Wait what do you mean by and insurance? What insurance are you referring to?

      • Probably the features of "Account Cover Plus."

Account Cover Plus is optional insurance you can purchase for your Coles Credit Card. It helps you protect your eligible purchases and the premium is just 1% of the monthly closing balance (capped at $50).

Pretty good features, not that I've needed to use them aside from price protection twice, and both times were handled with no fuss. Also if you pay off your balance before the statement is due, there is effectively no fee/cost for this.

  • What other benefits does this card come with compared to other no fee Mastercards?

    Found it. Useful info
    http://reviews.creditcardcompare.com.au/credit-cards/coles-n…

  • Can the account be cancelled before the fee comes into effect?

What other benefits does it have?

    • The fee card is not bad - 2 flybuys points per dollar spent which equates to about a 1% rebate.

The fee is charged on your first statement.

    • What fee?

      • +1

There's three options - no fee, $49 fee and 9.99% interest rate or $89 fee, 19.99% interest but 1% back on everything you spend via FlyBuys points.

      • +1

        The no annual fee.

  • What are the conditions for one to be approved?

    • +1

Probably a mix of a) being employed to some degree; and b) not already being in debt up to your eyeballs.

      • So essentially

        a) Don't be a bum.
        b) Please see A.
        c) Please see B.
        d) Sorry, you are too inquisitive. You are a bum.

    • Same as any CC. Income, debt including any other CC's limits (even if nothing currently owed)
Platinum usually requires income over $60k or so, but it can vary.

Sorry but I have to down vote this deal. GE Money or Latitude Group have horrible customer service, the last time they did one if these deals it took me many months to get the promised credit amount (i think it was $80 at the time). While I banked with this company, I had my wallet stolen and despite what the police told me, no staff members of GE would give me details of my account regarding transactions that were used when the card was stolen. I've spent many hours on hold and many times even hung up on (while on hold).

I've made many complaints (which is something I normally don't do) because of the complete shook of their customer service.

This is a company that tried their best to get your business, then when you need them, they are completely useless. Even people with family members that have died are hounded for accounts that are outstanding without any form of empathy.

    I'm just saying.

Read the reviews and good luck

    • I have to say my experiences haven't been anywhere near as bad as yours. Admittedly, my issues haven't required as much attention as yours, but I've dealt with their customer service numerous times and can't fault them. Not amazing, but good, solid.

Some of the things that I've gotten them to do in the past:

      • Waive cash advance fee (didn't know a gambling transaction when my card was in credit would be charged as a cash advance)
      • Made a personal request to not be charged interest for a particular month when I was a little short on cash
      • Request above wasn't properly actioned, and I got charged ~$100 interest the next month. Called to have it waived and it was waived immediately

Overall, just generally solid customer service. Probably about the same as what I've experienced from Jetstar and Vaya (yes my experiences with Vaya have been good/solid).

      • -3

Even if you buy a stamp or gift voucher you will be charged a "cash value" rate with these guys. Both Coles or 28 degrees. Just watch out and read the reviews, that's all I'm saying.

        • -1

Nah I'm pretty sure I've bought a gift card with Coles MC and not been charged cash advance. I've had this card for about 3 years. My personal experience has been absolutely fine, so a "review" like mine would offset one like yours I suppose…

        • @illumination: You may of never noticed (which is what they want). Everything can be found here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150255

        • +2

@IG88: Of course I would have (I mean "have course I would of".. lol) noticed because I'm pretty hawkeye when it comes to looking at my credit card transactions.

I'm aware of it happening. Just saying it didn't happen to me. I think when I bought the gift cards with me GE credit cards it was before all that (i.e. pre July-2014)

    • I've had nothing but positive experiences with GE Money and Coles MasterCard support (which I assume is also GE?).

I've called Coles MasterCard support numerous times and received all the help and information I needed with no issues. I also got my $100 off a Coles shop as promised in the timeframe quoted when signing up.
Not only that, but when contacting GE to make an insurance claim for something I purchased on my card (I have account cover with my card) they were incredibly helpful and had the money for my cracked screen back in my account in 2 days.

I'd seriously recommend this card, it might not have the best service but I personally haven't had any issues with the card or the service.

    • +1

      Have you tried FOS ?

I have experience on the charge back on Dick Smith Gift card transaction and they took 45 days to investigate and at the end of it they told me that they have no even looked into it and need another 45 days.

I shoot a complaint to FOS within 2 weeks I got my money back as well as letter to apologies.

      • +1

Honestly after about 2 weeks on the phone to them. I had a good think about all the other bad experiences I'd had with them. Then I told them where to go and had both my 28 degrees and Coles MC closed. I have many credit cards, seven in total each with their own perks and when my wallet was stolen it was only the GE (now Latitude Group I believe) cards that made it impossible to get the vital information. The police ended up getting a warrant to get the information, which wasted everyone's time and money and by then the people that stole my wallet had moved on.

I can only compare my experience with GE with other banks, the others were empathetic and provided all the requested information, right there and on the spot once I had verified myself. At one stage while on the phone to GE I was even told I was not the account holder and they put me on an endless hold.

Blah blah blah. Read their reviews LOL

    • That's just a dumb reason for a neg as it has nothing at all to do with it being a bargain or not.

      • +2

It is a valid reason for a neg as per the voting guidelines. "Major issues with retailer", which in this case is major issues with the card's customer servive providers that IG88 had experienced. (Did not neg you)

    • I've had a 28 Degrees card for going on 5 years now and never had a problem. Have done numerous shopper protection claims, had a few fraudulent transactions overturned, all of which were done without a single issue. Not saying you haven't had issues but each to their own - it's definitely not 'horrible customer service' every time.

    • +1

Thanks for making the effort to share your experience.

    • +1

I have to agree with you on all of the above….seriously considering getting rid of my 28 degrees card…man youbcant even email them…..and the amount of times i have tried to buy stuff online and been rejected….frustrating.. And what's this nonsense about not being able to email them to tell them you are going overseas..at the same time I might just get this new card , get the $100, then bin it, just to get something back on this mob and there horrible customer service.

  • So guys, with the account cover plus, if I buy a tv for say $4000 and in 20 months time it drops to $2000. I call them up show them the proof and they give me back $2000??

edit: whoops the t&c is $600 per item and maximum of $2000 per 12month period.

    • How does that price protection compare to 28 degrees i.e. do they have a limit of $600 as well?

  • What is FOS complaint?

  • Hey, they're serious that it's an interest free account right? Aren't there any obligations? I've never heard of an interest free credit card.

    • +1

It says "No annual fee". Interest free is usually 50 days, pay it off monthly and you wont pay interest.

  • What's the situation with conversion rates on o/s purchase?

    • Hey, I can't believe I'm reading their Conditions of Use. I cbb rephrasing so…

a currency conversion assessment fee, set by
MasterCard International Incorporated (the fee is equivalent
to an additional 0.2% of the currency conversion rate
applied to the amount of the transaction) when any
      non-Australian dollar denominated purchase, cash
advance, cash equivalent transaction or other charge is
converted to Australian dollars (as of the date they are
processed by MasterCard International Incorporated, using a
rate determined by MasterCard International Incorporated)

a cross-border assessment fee, set by MasterCard
International Incorporated (the fee is equivalent to an
additional 0.8% of any non-Australian dollar denominated
transaction amount, not including the currency conversion
assessment fee or international transaction fee (if any) )
where, in respect of a transaction, MasterCard International
Incorporated designates the supplier to be located in a
country other than Australia. This fee is paid to MasterCard
International Incorporated. The fee will be included with the

      • So does that mean 1% in total currency Conversion for overseas transactions if I were to travel overseas and use this card or order off Amazon US for example?

        • +1

          Correct.
And if you use it to book an overseas hotel through, for example, Agoda, you will be incur a 1% surcharge.
Another reason to get a 28 degrees credit card!

        • @ifonlyiwasyounger: thanks for the info, why is there an additional 1% surcharge though?

        • @yacman:
I'm not sure. But in the "fine print" of the Coles MasterCard terms and conditions it refers to "Cross Border Assessment Fees" and "International Transaction Fees", both of which I wasn't aware of until they appeared on my statement!
As mentioned above by PeeDee, these conditions are imposed by MasterCard International Incorporated.

I applied for a Coles credit card early last year with the intention of loading it up with balance transfers at 0% for 18 months. Cutting a very long story short, I supplied all the required paperwork and had to call Coles/GE Money almost every week to find out what was happening with the balance transfers, as they were not being processed. The overseas call center workers would just read out a script 'please wait, sir', for 30 days

Eventually I tried to cancel one of the transfers as I was going to pay off the credit card anyway. Call center worker confirmed my request. So Coles/GE Money cancelled both. Argh.

About 10 calls later, a local Coles/GE Money employee called and said they're sorry but Coles had trouble with their IT systems, etc, and apologised for the hassle. They gave me an extra 2 months interest free as compensation.

So, I'm milking $X thousand dollars as a free loan from Coles/GE Money while the money sits in my mortgage. On the last day of the interest free period I'll just pay it all off. Not sure whether it was worth the hassle however, as in my experience Coles/GE Money staff are extremely unhelpful, cannot deviate from a script, and do not log any details about calls. Eventually you might get a call from a local call center with an employee who can actually help and is not just there to read from a script. It may take a dozen calls however.

Can you use it to buy a giftcard ?

    • Really good question. Anyone know is this bargain-hack possible? I could buy $100 worth of toilet paper, but somehow the idea of gaming the system this way is more appealing.

    • Came to ask this very thing. When you pay with the card does it indicate anything? (Get $100 off this transaction, for example) Or does it get refunded into your account after the fact?

      • You get prompted if you want to use it on any transaction over $100.05. It gets credited immediately.

        • Sweet. Might be worth a shot then. Go to the self serve and try to buy one. If it doesn't prompt for $100 off then you just don't go through with it.

        • @Morien: Leaving a shopping trolley worth of goods that you decide to cancel will highly irritate the staff who now have to put it all back.

        • +1

          @lostn:

True enough. But putting back a single $100 gift card wouldn't be too bothersmoe.

        • @Morien: Gift cards are excluded from the $100 qualifying purchase.

          As SKS posted below,

Yeah, I saw that. But I'm going to try anyway. Wouldn't be the first time exclusions applied (But not really).

    • +1

"Can you use it to buy a giftcard ?"

      Yes!

Is there any disadvantage at all if I have too many credit cards?

For example, if I add this card to my existing 5 cards just for the $100 off and never use it again after that, would that be any problem?

    • One possible consideration is, some credit applications (e.g. Mortgages) may look at your total credit limit on all the credit cards combined.

I have heard (from a Mortgage Broker) that they look at all the cards you hold, and count the combined limit against your net worth.
In other words, they assume you could go out tomorrow and max-out all your cards.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

  • On the Coles Card Selection Page there are 3 cards, $0 annual fee $49 and $89, the basic differences I can tell are:

$0 has 19.99% interest and 1% international transaction fees

    $49 has 9.99% interest

$89 has 19.99% and no international transaction fees

On all of them you have price protection up to $600 a item and $2 000 in 12 month period separately if the item is stolen, lost or damaged there is a claim service that is no additional charge if you pay all your outstanding balance before your 62 days.

am I correct? or am I missing something, because I think $0 is fine if you don't often make international transactions and pay your balance on time.

also wondering how 28 degrees compares to this especially in relation to international conversion fees and item purchased price protection? same limitations, has to be the same retailer and item paid for in full by the card if I am correct?

    • +1

28 Degrees has no international conversion fees, whereas this one does.

28 Degrees Shopper's protection is limited to 6 months, this one is 2 years.

      Both GE Money.

I have personal experience with shopper's protection for 28 Degrees (been great), but not had a Coles MC.

      • thanks for that, is 28 Degrees capped at $600 limit? and does it offer any accidental breakage/loss protection?

  • I applied for this card a month ago but I got rejected because they couldn't find my credit record with a credit bureau called VEDA. First of all, I don't have a bad credit history. Actually, I don't even have a credit history. So for me to get a credit file/record, I'll need to pay a fee annually to VEDA. You know what this looks like? A scam is what it is.

Bank will only ask you for your phone bills/contract to help them decide if you will get approved or not. The whole you-have-to-pay-a-fee-for-a-credit-file so that you can be approved just like a scam.

    • I don't even have a credit history

There's your problem. If you don't have a credit file at all it'll be a little tricky to get your first line of revolving credit.

for me to get a credit file/record, I'll need to pay a fee annually to VEDA

No. You can get one copy of your credit file for free each year, plus you are allowed one free copy of your credit file per declined access to credit.

Bank will only ask you for your phone bills/contract to help them decide if you will get approved or not

Again, no. Banks most definitely will ask you for this information (and, by offering you a line of credit, they have a right to seek this information from you), but all banks will comprehensively check your credit file before you can access a single cent of credit money.

    what should i buy…no idea

  • So i applied and got the card from last deal.

Used it once at coles and it's been more than 2 weeks and i still haven't received any email regarding thw $100 off.

    Should i call them?

  • applied and said gotta go to post office done an ID check. uploaded payslip, bank statements etc and got informed to send ID check via post office.

so they will say by the time they receive the mail will be after 31th so you are not eligible to get the 100.
