Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard - $100 off a Single Shop

210

I noticed the new TV ad for Coles credit card is offering $100 off a single shop for new applicants. Not quite as good as Woolworths $150 gift card or 40K QFF points, but still decent. It appears you can sign up for the No Annual Fee MasterCard to qualify for this deal, with as little as a $1000 credit limit. I would suggest applying for a $6000 credit limit so as to unlock the "Platinum No Annual Fee" features (price protection/insurance.)

The No Annual Fee card also has the following features:
-Collect 1 point for every $2 you spend. Everywhere, every day. (In addition to flybuys earned from shopping at Coles/Target/etc.)
-Receive free delivery each time you spend $100 or more, after savings and discounts, with a Coles Credit Card at shop.coles.com.au.

T&C:
New customers who apply and are approved for a Coles Credit Card between Monday 11 January and Tuesday 9 February 2016 with a flybuys account will receive $100 off a single Coles Supermarket shop. $100 off will be activated on your flybuys account and available for use within 4 weeks of your card approval date. $100 off will only be activated on the flybuys card quoted in the application process. To redeem the $100 off you must scan your flybuys barcode on the back of your new Coles MasterCard and spend a minimum spend of $100.05 after savings and discounts in one transaction at Coles Supermarkets or Bi-Lo (excluding smoking/tobacco product purchases, Coles Group gift cards and iTunes cards). $100 off can only be used once and expires on 30 May 2016. Excludes Coles Express and Coles Online.

Platinum No Annual Fee MasterCard

You can enjoy the same great features and even more with our Platinum No Annual Fee MasterCard if you’re approved for a credit limit over $6,000 when you apply.

These benefits include complimentary access to our 24/7 worldwide concierge service, as well as Merchandise Protection Insurance, which protects the items you buy with your card in case they're lost, stolen or damaged.

So its mean I needed to pay at least 100.05 for the first when I have this card?
Thats some kind of tricky here I through because I never buy much 50 for each time shopping…

Correct, it's not as nice as a gift card that you can spend at your own leisure.
But you could always stock up on non-perishables like cans of Coke, or just buy a freezer load of steak.

    • Last time when the "coupon" was ready, I had to go to cashier and she just took off $100 as their usual redeem points operation.

    • This confused me last time as well, but its 100.05 spend, not 100.05 pay. So the total of your shop has to exceed 100.05. Just stock up on toilet paper or meat or something.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents for the rewards version of this card. This thing has saved me a bundle. One recent example of one of its benefits, I bought a Samsung tablet in June last year at OW using the card. Three months later it reduced in price by $40. One notification to their insurance team and I was credited that amount within a week. Then just last week I sent them a repair quote ($550!!) for a hair line crack on the screen that occurred after it was dropped accidentally (still fully functional). Again, it was one simple form. I have just been credited the total amount I paid for the tablet.

Other cards have this merchandise/price protection feature but if you are interested in the Coles product, I suggest grabbing the fee free card, get the $100 off, then give them a call to ask about upgrading to the rewards… possibly waiving the first year (which is what I did).

My use of cards go something like this:
Supermarkets >$100 - Amex Plat Edge & scan Flybys (back of Coles CC)
    Purchases <$100 - ING 2% paywave & scan Flybys
    Bills - Coles
Petrol - ING 2% paywave & scan Flybys
Big items (eg. TV, fridge, computer) - Amex Plat Edge (for extra 1 year warranty) or Coles (for price protection)
Overseas - Coles (was using 28degrees)

    • Note that "overseas: Coles" does require the rewards premium version (which has an ongoing yearly fee, unlike 28degrees, Citibank debit or BankWest zero)

Australian consumer law gives you that 1 year extra warranty anyway. Use a card with price protection. :)

      • What do you mean by "Australian consumer law gives you that 1 year extra warranty"? Thought there's no compulsory warranty time in Australia.

        • You automatically have consumer guarantees. The fact that your CC is offering an 'extended warranty' for free, means that you can likely expect the purchase to last (without defect) that extended warranty period anyway. Same as if the store is offering a (paid) extended warranty.

consumer guarantees apply regardless of any warranties suppliers sell or give to you & apply for a reasonable time depending on the nature of the goods or services.

        • @Lukian: Where is this line from? Does your source state what "consumer quarantees" you gain "automatically" and for how long? I'm not challenging here, I'm looking for information. I thought you can only rely on what a brand or seller offers to guarantee.

        • @pizzaguy: You can rely on what an average person would expect the lifetime to be. If additional one year warranties are 'free' - would the average person not expect the device to be free of defects in that year also?

        • @Lukian: Still sounds more like speculation than how it actually works, given the Australian regulations are not quite customer-friendly (and trustworthy, I'm an introduced species), compared to US or EU at least.

        • @pizzaguy: It actually works on speculation. :) If you pay $xxxx for a TV, a reasonable person would expect it to last ~15 years (at the low end of that range, ~9 years) and under ACL you are warrantied for that.

        • @Lukian:

there is no way consumer law will protect you for nine years even at the high end….it is well reasonable for a tv to need servicing in this time.

    • You should look in to discounted Everday Wish Gift Cards. You can use Entertainment Book or Cash Rewards. Minimum 5% off, sometimes up to 30% off.

      • Supermarkets … … Amex Plat Edge

The 3 points per dollar (~2.6% avg return) seems to apply for Wish Gift Card purchases (5% off via Cash Rewards) from the Woolworths website.

    • +1. I have claimed over $500 worth of price protection (price drop) claims on this card in the past month.
Some of those purchases were from 18-23 months ago, so I claimed just before the 2 year claim period expired.
Plus I typically get $600 - $700 worth of free groceries by redeeming the $10 for 2000 points at each shop..

    • Is the premium still 1% of your closing balance?

      • Correct. Pay off your closing balance by the statement date and there is no premium.

      • Yep… but 1% of $0 is $0
So it costs $0 if you pay off each month

so can you buy 100 bux worth of dick smith gc?

I guess ppl are still butt hurt being dicked from behind.

  • I'm really interested in this! It's gonna be my first credit card, if I apply. Does anyone know a no-annual fee deal better than this?

    • You can get more than $100 out of a lot of other cards, but without yearly ongoing fees is unlikely.

      • Would you go for this or Bankwest Zero Platinum?

        • I went for both (and more).

  • We got this credit card specifically because of the no annual fee and $100 off a single shop. We pay out our credit card every month so we don't incur interest. When we went to use the $100 off our grocery shop after we got the credit card it didn't register & we were told by the cashier that it was vaild on our second shop, not first. The cashier said somebody else had been caught out the week before with the same thing. My wife told the cashier we weren't advised of this & asked to speak to the manager. The manager agreed with the cashier but as a gesture of goodwill gave us the $100 off our initial grocery shop.

    • Interesting the TV advert ( for what it is worth ) does have the checkout chick just asking 'do you want your 100 off now' which implies it was available immediately to those in the ad getting the card, but also that yo could choose when to spend it ie when you had more then $100 worth of goods to purchase. I'm also left wondering if you will now get a second $100 off from your next shop with the card?

    • Such a condition should be made very clear to any applicant or in any advertising. A genuine trap that the ACCC should hammer and hit it hard.

    • If the conditions are that it is $100 off the second shop, does that mean the first shop should be $100 or more?
If not just buy the cheapest item you need then immediately afterwards buy $100 worth of items :)

  • Can someone confirm for me, is the no international transaction fees on the coles rewards card the same feature as on the 28° Card and the citibank plus card?

  • Not quite as good as Woolworths $150 gift card or 40K QFF points

What is this deal? Is it still available?

  • Any fee for additional cardholders?

  • "It's Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard time"

  • Has anyone sucessfully redeemed their $100 OFF on their FIRST shop with this card?

  • Has anyone managed to stack this with coupons e.g. get 1,000 bonus points for spending $80?

These coupons usually stipulate that it must be $80 after discounts/vouchers/savings, etc. However, they work when I use flybuys credit (because it acts as a payment and not a discount/voucher).

Just wondering whether the $100.05 I spend counts as $100.05 or $0.05 after discounts/vouchers/savings? Is the $100 a (free) payment or a does it coutn as a discount?
