FREE travel on SmartBus Route 902 Chelsea-Airport West from 5 April to 18 April 2010 (for the first two weeks of service)
SmartBus Route 902 is a service operating daily from early morning until midnight (9pm Sundays). It will run on average every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on evenings, weekends and public holidays and replace several less frequent routes.
SmartBus Route 902 will run 76 kilometres from Chelsea to Airport West via Springvale, Glen Waverley, Nunawading, Doncaster, Eltham, Greensborough, Thomastown and Broadmeadows. The expanded service will replace the existing Route 888/889 SmartBus (Chelsea to Nunawading) as well as local routes 281 (Templestowe to Eltham portion only) and 560 (Greensborough to Broadmeadows).
Even though you would need to allow a full 3 hours to travel from Airport West to Chelsea (or less if you live close to any of the suburbs the Smartbus travels past), it might appeal to some people as a cheap day trip option on the weekend to the beach in Chelsea, via suburbs in Melbourne which you would not normally visit.
Free travel until 18 April 2010, but otherwise for the cost of a Zone 2 daily Metcard ie. $4.80/$2.70 for full/concession fare.
LOL yeah but if you get 10 x 2hr, its only a saving of like $1.10!
But guess its better than nothing.
