is that including all phone calls and wifi spots around the country etc? If so its a deal, if its only broadband then you are talking about a different product.

      • still better value and you can upgrade to the one with calls for like $10 more.
        and unlimited data.

also i know your trolling so im not going to talk about wifi thing.

    • This is ADSL, not NBN

  • +1

This is a pretty awesome price.

I thought I was doing well getting 1000gb and line rental for $105.90 a month, with no included calls.

This deal is $7 cheaper and includes local/mobile calls.

    • I managed to get this deal for $119 w/ 100/40 speed boost.

      • Same, on the NBN as well.

  • Does anyone know what the upload speed is on cable if you have the speed boost?

    • +4

      Upload speeds are embarrassing.

      I push 110Mbps down and 2.5Mbps up.

      • Oh well that's a deal breaker. No point switching from my unlimited ADSL that syncs at 22mbit…

        • +1

You would rather faster upload than pulling 110Mbps down?

        • +1

@Mittervi: Yeah. I guess it depends how you use it. For Netflix/youtube etc 22mbit is heaps don't really download anything else. For syncing backups/photos to the cloud 1mbit is painful.

        • +1

          @Mittervi:

I'd love to be able to get a 10Mbps upload speed. 2Mbps on cable is a joke.
What use is having cloud/online backup systems if it takes forever to upload your stuff?

        • Syncs at 22mbit … but that's going to be your download sync speed @ 22mbit and not your upload sync speed… ?

With a sync speed of 22mbit, I'd be very surprised if you had an upload sync of anything higher than 4 or 5mbit…. which is not that much better than Mittervi's 2.5mbit figure.

I'd take his extra +80mbit download and -3mbit less upload everyday of the week.

      • yep, same, 110/2.5 is what i get

  • +2

Well normally internet is bloody expensive on Telstra. $99 seems more like a realistic price. Still can't really compete with Optus, considering that I'm on Unlimited Internet + Home Phone + International Calls + Fetch TV (which I sold for $200) for $90/month (now it's $95/month I believe).

    • +2

Telstra seems like a better deal than Optus if you are working in the areas that are abundant with Telstra Air + Free Air Gateway + $15 credit for Bigpond movies (should have been Play or Appstore credit) + 3 free top-ups per year + 200GB OneDrive subscription

Does anyone know if there are further discounts by bundling a mobile phone plan - have a couple with them.

      • Unfortunately most of those features are irrelevant to me.

      • further discounts by bundling a mobile phone plan

        With optus, yes.

        Telstra, no.

    • +2

you can sell the Fetch TV box? but you dont actually own it, I thought it is Optus's.

      • Yea I recall getting the idea from either OzBargain or Whirlpool. I don't think it's owned by Optus but I could be wrong. I sold it to some guy who's already got one in the living room, but also wanted it in his bedroom. Gave him the activation code and there were no problems with setup..

    • Optus have been sneaky & removed the free 13xxxx numbers for new subscribers.
And the fetchbox, they told me it was an included rental (i.e. they own it).

      • I don't recall seeing anything about that. Most likely they own it until the contract ends ie. 24 months.

  • I already have Telstra broadband - paying around $88 for 500Gb a month. How much luck am I going to have if I try to change to this plan (since I'm not a new user)? I've been out of contract for years though.

    • I tried via online chat (However did not put much effort in) and was unsuccessful, would be nice for new customers or customers who are persistent/have time to argue with Telstra.

    • Contact retentions and they will give you probably double data for the same price.

edit: I've been speaking alot with Telstra the last few weeks and you can probably get an additional $10 off/month without much hassle.
      (Just signed 2 cable plans)

        • They're not budging for me… won't let me switch to the plan. (EDIT: I put in a formal complaint to Telstra about it… it won't do anything, but I'll complain to whoever will listen haha).

        • @webbiegareth:
My dad managed to get a similar deal recently where it was 500g +500g for new customers. As an existing customer he tried a few times but eventually i think he asked to be connected to plan cancelations on live chat and they did the deal for him. They even then added the member loyalty discount of $10 a month without asking which was nice

        • @webbiegareth:

Not live chat, live chat are mostly just sales rep, their department has limited power.

You need to contact the disconnections/retention team. You don't even need to tell them you're disconnecting, it's just they are the ones with more power to be able to give you a genuine good deal.

        • @bao28: are these 24 month contracts existing customers are signing up to or are disconnections offering double data for customers without re-contracting?

        • @bao28:

I'm on! I went through to disconnections after arguing with the sales guy, and they are offering me the new plan to stay :)

Well not the new plan, but the older plan, but with a discount and double data, but it ends up being the same data quota (1000Gb) at the same price ($99) :)

        • @webbiegareth: Will be interesting to see if anyone can get on to this plan and retain an existing loyalty bonus credit!

        • @atlas:

I didn't have any existing loyalty bonus credit :) I've been with Telstra for probably a decade now, I seem to just keep going from plan to plan :)

        • @Jules66:

To contact retentions, you will need to be existing customer unfortunately.

But the sales reps generally can ask their supervisor to give you a $10/month discount anyway.

        • @webbiegareth:

How about the other benefits like included calls and TelstraTV? Did you get that too?

        • I was able to get this deal for my parents using the live chat. The first salesperson I talked to offered me $10 off the 500GB plan, then offered me an extra 200GB. I then asked to be transferred to disconnections, and the next rep offered me the deal I wanted. I asked if I'd get the new modem as well, and after checking with her supervisor, she confirmed that I could get it for free (along with the Telstra TV). They also gave me free calls to 13 numbers which was nice.

      • +1

Yes I receive the $10 month off too. 500GB Ultimate Cable for $78pm.

  • +5

OMG! I finally got a deal on the front page.

    My life is complete.

    • +2

How are you going to celebrate?

      • +3

        Vodka jelly shots!

  • This is either ADSL or cable isn't it? If telstra cable isn't available aren't you essentially signing up to adsl? (Aka getting ripped off)

    • +4

yep you are absolutely correct… only a deal if its cable in my books.

  • Looks like the 'M' bundle didn't change.

  • I'm currently syncing at 6mbps on my ADSL (TPG) due to distance from the exchange.
Would going to this deal improve things for me ?

edit: oops just saw its Cable, not ADSL

    • it is adsl and cable.

      So….maybe? idk, probably not.

  • what is the speed in this bundle?

    Cable (base plan)

    Up to 30Mbps

    Up to 1Mbps

    Cable (speed boost)

    Up to 100Mbps

    Up to 2Mbps

does it come with the speed boost pack?
if not i rather stay on my current optus unlimitd 90 a month, with free 100mbps pack they added at signup. i know it does not get 100mbps but it gets around 30-40. and the upload speed is not as pathetic as telstra.

    • For information on broadband types and the speeds available please visit www.telstra.com/speeds. If you are a Cable or Velocity customer you can purchase a Super Fast Speed Boost for an additional $20 per month. Your bill will show an additional charge each month for your speed upgrade. If you already have a Speed Boost then you will continue to receive your Speed Boost and be charged for it each month unless you cancel it.

    • It doesnt come with the speed pack. Multiple users = very slow internet. They used to have the 100mbps pack on the broadband ultimate packs.

  • +2

Don't forget to ask for the $59 activation fee to be waived (for new customers). Use chat to order and save a copy of transcript

    • I asked and they said it was not possible? Do you have a copy of your transcript?

      • +2

Don't ask for it outright. Ask them about the deal, get them to check your location, then ask if they can waive it if you sign up now. If they still say no, tell them you will think about it. Try another chat.

I've done this for three ppl now, all successful. One time they said no and I walked away from chat and made a cuppa. Came back and the rep was typing "are you there? I asked my supervisor and we can waive the $59 fee."

        • Awesome thanks for the information

  • -6

30 LIKES! THIS IS INSANE GUYS!

    • -1

      Calm down…

  • does this deal have a cooloff period ? or once you sign in u are stuck for 24 months ?

    • +2

Cooling-off periods generally are only applicable to outbound sales/cold calling.

Once you have committed to a 24 month contract you are locked in, unless you move to an area which isn't serviceable by Telstra.

  • +1

I assume, since it's not mentioned, that the speed bump to 100 Mbps is not included? Meaning you are on the 30 Mbps speed?

    • For information on broadband types and the speeds available please visit www.telstra.com/speeds. If you are a Cable or Velocity customer you can purchase a Super Fast Speed Boost for an additional $20 per month. Your bill will show an additional charge each month for your speed upgrade. • -1

I've been on Telstra Cable for over 4 years, I'm on the 100+mb connection, always have been & it wasn't an "extra" when I signed up.

I pay $78 p/m for 500gb, hence no up vote as I don't think this deal is good enough.

    • +2

yes its 30, idk why the OP keeps pasting the same sentence to every question regarding speed, just tell the people the thing they want to hear, its 30mbps, $20 extra for speed pack so u be paying 120 a month, which is not worth it, id rather stay on my unlimited optus with 100mbps for 90 a month

  • Telstra sucks, the amount of outages I face is a pain in the ass. I get probably 2-3 days every quarter on average;
    http://servicestatus.telstra.com/

which is hard to deal with when there is a family of 5 depending on having internet everyday.

Most of the time it is a "schedule maintenance" and occurs either for the whole day or during peak evenings.

    • really? well truth be told i get that with optus too, i think its because of their netflix customers all using the service mostly at night time. hogging down the entire network. even with my speed pack i get constant shit speed at times.
specially for the last 3 days i have been experiencing constant dropouts and slow speeds.
last few days after this post was made and after i experienced the bad drop outs i was just thinking of swapping to telstra thinking even the 30mbps would probably be faster than my optus with the speed pack.. but after reading ur comment not sure what to do..

just done a speed test which is quite pathetic.. down 3mbps, up 0.88, cool speed pack optus

  • +3

I signed up to Telstra at the beginning of the year, big mistake. Evening speeds are always below 5mbps and getting slower each week I currently have speedboost and should be close to 100mbps. International peering is the worst i have had with any isp and their single threaded speeds are terrible. For a short period i had both iinet adsl and telstra cable, i am 4.5 kms from the exchange and my max speeds on adsl was around 4mbps. I was getting better single threaded speeds on adsl than on cable. iinet 11 hops to europe, telstra 23 hops to europe. You should read this thread before signing up https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2245961.

I have also been over billed an extra $600. 4 invoices so far 3 have been wrong. I have spent over 50 hours on the phone had 3 technicians out and in the end they pretty much have said the local network will not get any upgrades until the NBN comes to HFC in my case 18 plus months.

Telstra has come last in the netflix speedtest results every month since inception.

I am currently lodging complaints to TIO and ACCC.

    • I was also on iinet adsl for 10 years, then swapped to telstra cable. From 10mbps to 110mbps was a nice feeling. I will admit iinet seemed more stable. Telstra goes a bit wonky every 3 weeks or so. But i feel the router is partially to blame. Real annoying i cant hook up my old one in bridge mode.

Telstra needs to sort out their modem/routers.

    • I signed up in Oct/Nov.. yeah I've had similar experiences with my bill but net has been fine
P2P is excellent and gaming lag is great

      netflix seemed okay to me..
my other choice was TPG.. price is good. Customer Service is just atrocious with terrible gaming latency.
TPG have never fixed any fault i've raised with them

  • +1

Telstra is very meh. Support is full of lies and garbage, they have not serviced my downstairs phone port whatsoever and it still suffers from massive packet loss. The upstairs one does not, so I am using it. Service is very average, occasional drops and the router they gave me is absolute trash even if it does have AC WiFi. I went out and bought a $45 ASUS one and it blows their stock standard crap out of the water.

    • +3

      I've given you a + for your persistence :)

      • Thanks!

    • +1

it isn't a game, calm the heck down

  • i see tv is included in this bundle, is that service deducted from the 1000gb? if so it might dwindle pretty quickly - why why doesn't telstra simply offer unlimited?

I'm not a specialist so i won't comment on how good the deal is or not, as i don't need a plethore of services.

the australian consumer doesn't seem very demanding, the internet offers are so last century (i am aware geographic/infrastructure conditions change things a little)internet quotas in 2016 while other countries are thinking of making internet acces a basic right @@ .

  • +1

Good to see Telstra becoming competitive. Even if it is at a snails pace.

  • This is worth it if you require the international connectivity.

I have only ever managed to get http://v.ifeng.com/live/ to work properly without stuttering on Telstra. Doesn't work well on TPG or Optus. I haven't tried any others, but most of the others are part of the TPG network these days.

The weird problem with this site is that it usually connects to an Akamai server, but then decides to randomly drop down to the server in Nanjing. At which time your international connectivity really makes a huge difference to whether it continues to stream properly or not.

  • how long is the outage time on this? lol

  • Is there a way to find out what speed will i get if i do switch to telstra?
My dl speed is max at 350kbs with optus, surely its beatable right?
Is there a site or something to find out what performance/distance from exchange etc?

I've found Telstra to be quite reasonable when it comes to negotiating a deal.

    Just last week, I negotiated:
    2-year contract
    $79p/m
    500GB Cable
    Unlimited local/national calls
    Free Speedboost
    Free Gateway Max modem
    $0 installation
