[VIC] DGtek Fibre Network FTTP 150/150 Plan: $49/M for 9 Months (Limited Areas, New Customers) @ Pineapple Net

1100
PNBF24

PineappleNet has a Black Friday special for home internet - $49 for 150Mbps symmetrical speeds. Certainly a lot better prices, speed and service than NBN.

PineappleNet is a reseller of the DGTek fibre network, who operate only in buildings in very limited areas near Melbourne CBD and some South Eastern suburbs. And not in every building, so check your address to see if they're available.

I've been a customer for over 2 years and very happy to recommend.

very good price and nice to see symmetrical speeds. unlike NBN with 1000/50

    • +20

Wish we had more competition to the NBN.

Honestly, I DO like the concept of one network… if it wasn't done as badly as it was.
Seriously, I'll never forgive the Liberal government (and more specifically Murdoch) for setting back Australia's technological infrastructure 100 years.
Although ordinary Australian people are less likely to care since they actually have a life going out into the green and kicking the oval ball.

Pretty easy to do when you just need a fat pipe into a building and not need to somehow provide fibre to Bundanoon, Jimboomba and Lake Wendouree (I just picked three funny sounding names off the fibre upgrade list).

I'm a fan of 500/200 coming down in cost too. Nowhere near as good as this, but it'll be nice once my 30 day wait with superloop is up to move over. Should see a price drop next year too. That 500/500 is something like $350 wholesale on NBN though is just a joke.

Don't forget about FTTP in Cockburn Central and Ocean Beach, WA 🤣

        • +1

Other amusing suburb names in WA -
          Innaloo
          Upper Swan
          Munster

          • @Cheap Rich Guy: I'm sure I've heard someone once say:
I'd rather be Innaloo than Upper Swan!

      • They seemingly don’t want you using your residential connection as a server to the outside world.

      • +1

Fwiw, Wendouree is the millionaire's lake of Ballarat, so that's one place that could easily support faster / expensive connections..

Would love to try these guys but still not available in my area

    • Same, eagerly awaiting the day when something similar is available in Brisbane!

      • Tried Capti? I get about 900mbps down and 110 up through them in Melbourne. They're based in Brisbane and probably have more reach up there too.

        • I haven't, but I'll check them out! 900/110 is pretty good, and while I don't necessarily need that much download, it'll be cool to have! Out of curiosity how much are you paying a month atm for them?

          • +1

@Opaquer: I'm paying 109/month, but it looks like they're offering the plan I'm on now for ~70/month for 6 months, then 99/month ongoing. Guess I'll be giving them a call shortly to see if I can start paying that better price!

I'm not covered by pineapple net, but I might be soon, and I'm definitely considering switching once they're available. But for me, with only either Capti at 950/110 or the NBN at 100/20, I'm happy with what I've got for the moment.

Edit: Their customer service is top-notch, super quick aussie support, only took a few mins, and I'm now on the same plan for 99/month with the possibility of a credit to my account too for the trouble. Highly recommend

            • @leeeeeeeeeevi: Interesting - looks like we actually have a worse version where I am. They don't have 1000/100, which is what I'm assuming your plan is - the closest they have is 1000/50 for $99/month for 6 months, then up to $129/month. For me upload speed is more important, and while it is an upgrade from what I'm on at the moment, I don't know if I can justify the price increase just for a small increase to 50mbps upload. That said, I'll keep an eye out for them and if they ever start offering faster upload speeds for <$100/month consistently, I'll switch over!

              • +1

@Opaquer: Sorry! I think that's the plan I'm on! I've got their "Fastest 1Gb" plan which says it's good for 940 down and 50 up, but my speeds are consistently around 950/110. The cost is definitely higher though, but might be worth trying to see if you get the speeds they seem to be unofficially providing.

Edit: Over on Whirlpool, people in Brisbane and the Gold Coast are reporting upload speeds of 110 too

    • I wouldn't hold your breath. They only serve large apartment buildings. Even if they "serve" your area they won't connect you.

  • With this available in my building why am i on 100\40 nbn for more?

  • I am confused. It’s FTTP but not NBn FTTP?

    • +4

DGTek setup their own private FTTP network in limited areas.

    • +1

Fttp is one of different kinds of cable run design, nothing to do with NBN

  • Any deals on apartments in Melbourne CBD?

    • -1

Bad investment. Terrible resale value on over-supplied CBD apartment market.

    • -1

Losing 20% of your home value over 5-10 years is not worth it for 50% cheaper internet..

  • +3

Nice, symmetrical speeds. Did WFH during COVID not teach us anything? Why is this not more readily available?

    • +12

Because liberals mixed technology 💩. I’m not salty at all.

      • +4

3 elections laterz still not recovering from Turnbull's NBN

      • -2

It didn’t help that Labor severely underestimated the cost of running fibre direct to every house in Australia. Would have taken far longer to become operational than FTTN.

        • +3

The upkeep of what we have now (plus the 800m paid to Optus, and much more to Telstra for their old rubbish) would probably have paid for all of that.

  • +2

    I'm with pineapple. They're amazing.
They are the cheapest reseller of DGtek.

  • Damn, coverage ends two streets away :/

    • +2

Time to move for some big savings!

  • +7

Basically what entry level NBN should have been

  • Good and bad news:

"Your address is within the DGtek Footprint.
However it is not currently connected, and will require additional work to be completed."

    • me too.. "Thanks for getting in touch! We'll add your building to our Roll-Out map, and keep you updated if we plan on connecting your building."

    • Yeah Same, they will ask for $5k to set it up. DGTek is very hit and miss. I have been in their service area for 1.5years.

      • Are you an apartment/unit?

  • +4

    Here is the DGTek Map

    • Wow it’s expanded since I checked last. That’s exciting

  • +4

You can tell it's not NBN because there's no 150 NBN speed.

    • +10

And because it's 1/3 of the price it would be if the NBN did have that speed

      • -2

Meh, for $30 more you can get 250 NBN.

        • Still extortionate amounts compared to almost every other country in the world though.

  • +1

Am in their service area but they dont wana connect me because I live in an apartment.

  • +2

    I have a pen

  • -1

Not to say this one will be bad, but Mate NBN makes me EXTREMELY skeptical about any cheap and small ISP…….

    • Luckily it’s not NBN

  • Also within the DGTek service area but Pineapple says it’s not available :/

  • Even in the service area, still not available and ask for register for interests.

  • Wish I could be this happy over 150/150, she seems pretty pleased.

    • anything above 100mbps would make me that happy too

  • Have been with these guys for years, excellent service.

Though didn't know they'd re-jigged plans, I'm on $69/mo for 150/150 so maybe I'll give them a call to see if I can adjust it to the current offering of $65.

  • Will this only ever be buildings only? Never residential?

  • Any recommendations for router please or just buy from Pinapple?
