Dick Smith 2.4A USB Wall Charger $11.99

70

Probably need to supply your own cable (it comes with 30 pin which is useless for most) but for those like me who already own plenty of cables, this is a good price for a 2.4A adapter that should be reliable and meet all Australian electrical standards.

Plenty of stock at most stores (probably because it was still tagged at $40 at my store at least).

Also with lightning cable at $13.49: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/chargers/ds-wall-charger-lightni…

I would suggest the $15 dollar one from Ikea if you want something local.

    Review for EU version.

Personally, I would avoid any generic chargers such as the DSE branded one. You just have no idea what is in there. Unless they have been properly reviewed, like the IKEA one above.

I agree that you should avoid generic chargers off eBay or some no-name phone kiosk but this is from a major retailer and, more importantly, has the RCM mark. I don't share your concerns in this case.

      • I agree with you there Daz.

    • Great review site - thanks for linking.

I have one of the #1 and #13 from this page - never used it since purchased… going to tear it apart and take a look. Way too small to inspire much confidence. http://www.lygte-info.dk/info/usbPowerSupplyTest%20UK.html#3

I like this quote, "it is not very good for anything with electronic in it"

  • I got a few of the 30 pin version in the pre christmas sales and it works fine. Think I might grab some more seeing as they are still cheaper then other chargers.

  • Does anyone know if these are at least 2.5A@5V ?

Want to use one as a Raspberry Pi 3 power supply

    • They are 2.4A@5V. It's a little less than the official power supply. The power requirements depend on what you connect to the USB ports. I'm currently running mine off a 2.1A adapter with no issues.

  • i got this exact same thing for 5 bucks at the massive dick smith sales just before they went into administration.
